View Full Version : Adora, yep.

Blah blah blah, critique and stuff, I'd love some feedback. I'm mostly happy with this, but I unfortunately had to rush a few things with it. My main qualms are the fact that I had to hot glue most of the trim on the sides of the vest and the collar, so it's kind of ghetto up close, and also the gloves. I'm mostly looking for advice on tailoring, etc. - I'm wearing an underbust corset underneath the vest to give the proper shape, but it's still not as fitted as Adora's in Hyung Tae Kim's artwork (which is the last attached picture, obviously, for reference). Eh.

Thanks ^_^

The kind of shape in the last picture is really hard to achieve without one seriously strong and painfulish corset. Mmyep.

But seriously, this is very good work. I can't see any evidence of ghetto-ness, even though I was looking. The only thing that I think could be improved is making the bottom of the skirt poof out more in the back; as it is, it's forming a sort of bustle-shape that the original picture doesn't seem to have as much. But that's a really minor detail, and based on what you say, although it could be improved, it's pretty darn awesome now. Great job!

If it's possible to stick something in the sleeves to keep them puffy... it seems that the one likes to fall in.
I suppose the skirt is poofier than the reference pic, but actually, I like yours better.

Honestly, I'd have to look really hard to find anything to criticize. That costume is really impressive... I wish I had seen it in person!
The hair is wonderfully done. Excellent job!

It's so incredibly awesome to see Magna Carta cosplay, and when I see it done extremly well it's even better. You did an amazing job and I am throughy impressed. I don't see any ghettoness. I especially luv the hair. Awesome job!

Hanyaan Fairy - Yeah, the skirt/petticoat kind of bothers me.. Thing is, since it's box-pleated, it doesn't behave like a normal skirt - I think hers kind of defies the laws of physics and pleating in the HTK art. I'll probably make a new petticoat that flares out more at the bottom and less elsewhere.

Ali - Good idea. I think, before I wear it next, I'll put some tulle inserts in the sleeves of the blouse to keep them nice and poofy.

DarkGunner - Haha, I'm positively mad about my wig. Excepting the funny looking back, I love it to pieces. It's great fun to wear, though the braids can get in the way a bit sometimes.

A) Awesome work. And I must say it looked even better in person (I was in the AWA judging line about two spots behind you, HUGE white gown). I have little to offer...

B) Okay. One small thing. The color of Adora's boots is tough to pin down in the art, but they look like a faded black, which is what you seemed to have gone with. Regardless, I think shiny black boots (or if not shiny, just a little new looking) would look nicer, overall, because of the sharp contrast the black presents in the rest of the outfit.

Aw, thank you! ^^ You were Sakura, if I remember correctly, and you did a beautiful job. I can't believe I never got a picture of you! I'm such a sucker for big white dresses, as is evident by my Suu from last year ^^

As for the boots, I was actually under the impression that they're a dark, matte brown, so that's what I went with. The attached image shows it pretty well, I think. It's totally incongruous with the rest of the outfit, but ah well. I really wanted to do some new boots before AWA (I wasn't able to do the funky sole with the rectangles on the sides) btu I didn't have time. However, seeing as she looks different in every picture I've seen (HTK artwork, ingame screenshots, cg artwork) who knows what the boots are supposed to be like.

Thank you! ^_^ Big white gowns rock!

Wow. Yup. Those sure are brown boots. I'm curious to see how the crazy soles turn out. Hate it when various art/cg shots don't match! Point being it looks fantastic and I can't wait to see how it turns out when finished!

Ah, yes I may be mistaken but didn't you win an award at the AWA9 contest in the costume? Anyway it was very brillant and original. One more quick question is it from War of Genesis or....sorry the other games name slips my mind ~_____~. I wouldn't worry about the small stuff ( the boots ) you pretty much nailed this costume it was great, if you do modifications on it it'll probally nothing less of perfect.

Jehuty - I won Best in Show Journeyman, actually ^^ It was completely unexpected, as the judges spent no more that twenty seconds examining the costume.

Adora is from Magna Carta, which is the "other" game. I <3 HTK.

If you could make the skirt less stiff, it would help with the over all effect/accuracy.

I've mando researched Adora for when I was going to cosplay her - her boots are a brown suede with a thick rubber sole, mau mau!

Thanks Nessa ^_^ I figured as much. I need new ones, bleh.

First of all:

You are so awesome.

Second of all.....maybe it's a shading issue or something, but my two cents are; in this pic here looked like she has something like....an arm-stocking on?

10-29-2003, 08:02 PM
Wow, thanks ^^ *blush*

I think it may just be some funky shading. That one particular background seems to be the most incongruous of all the pictures of her I've found, so I think they took a lot of artistic liberties with it. I'll definitely check through my other images, though, just in case, as I could've completely missed something ^^

Looks very nice and consistant, but I think you should use a darker stocking on the left leg... Maybe something a little more opaque?
