Started this a bit ago..

Right now I have

The Shirt:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/cobrabat/shirt.jpg
This is actually my second shirt. I had to make the first one myself and I made the image way too small. Upped the size on this one. I actually really want a real original shirt and have tried searching all over the internet and locally for one but they seem to be extremely rare :-/ I'd toss this one in a minute for an original. I had to make this by printing it out onto iron on paper. It's actually in 4 sections because of the paper size limitations.

The Vest:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/cobrabat/vest.jpg
I searched thrift stores again and again to find this. It's not an exact match but its close.

The Shorts:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/cobrabat/shorts.jpg
Yep, I made them from dress pants purchased at a thrift store. Cut them down and sewed them up. Made the stickers on my computer and printed them out.

The Shoes:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/cobrabat/shoes.jpg
Got these just for the costume and like them a lot. I call them my fun shoes. Ha ha. Need to get purple laces for them. Will probably buy a second pair so I don't have to change out the laces all the time.

The Jacket:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/cobrabat/newjacket.jpg
Another thrift store find. It took a long time to find this but I finally hit it close this week. The jacket is a BOSS brand jacket. I doubt its the same brand from the film, it might be.. I don't know, but its pretty close if it's not. The jacket in the film often appears to be red or even orange/red. Tonight dyed the yellow jacket with red RIT dye and I should come up with a nice somewhere in between color. It's still in the washing machine. I've removed the "BOSS" logo from the front and back of the jacket. You can see the logo just above the pocket in the photo. Ted's jacket has no logos as far as I can tell.

I still need proper sweat pants to wear under the shorts, the watch, the red and gray socks, and the friendship bracelets. I've purchased a wig for the costume that my wife has been helping me trim down and style.

....And I think you've just won the internet. This is fantastic! Tell me there will be pictures when it's done.

(Also, you have a fantastic wife for working on the wig with you!)

screamedwhisper: Thanks!

Here is a comparison image.
I found a huge collection of screencaps from the film online and put them together to show how close in color my jacket turned out. Scene after scene, light and dark, the jackets color remains pretty consistent.

My jacket is in the two photos on the right. One taken without flash and one taken with flash in the dark.

It's funny how most think his jacket is just red, (I know I did) , but it's actually a red/orange color. You can tell by comparing the red color of the bag he carries and the stripes on his socks, etc to the jacket itself.

and here is the full size image of my own jacket.

I have also taken a lot of screencaps to try and find the best views of "Wyld Stallyns" that is written on the right arm of his jacket. I used those yesterday to draw out "Wyld Stallyns" down the sleeve. Need to post a pic of it sometime..

Teds shoe laces are purple but I couldn't find laces that were long enough and also in the proper color locally. Yesterday I also bought a pair of long white shoe laces and colored them with purple Sharpie. They turned out great! Here is a photo!

Yeah the shoes are dirty, but they're shoes and they are meant to be worn.

Now I just need the 80's socks, grey, with red stripe, his wrist watch with large leather strap and snaps, and I need to make his friendship bracelets he wears on his right arm and it's complete. I might make the socks on my own too as I can't find a pair of socks as puffy and large as his anywhere.

Oh yeah! I forgot! I also purchased accurate shoelaces to hang off of his jacket like he has in the film. Just waiting for those to arrive in the mail :)

I'm not alone!
I also have a Ted cosplay in progress, though it seems to sort of be at a stand still. I have a vest, shorts (without stickers), sweatpants, and the shoes (sans purple laces).

For the socks though, I suggest looking for hiking socks actually, that's how I found mine. I have to say, you're inspiring me to actually finish my Ted though.
Awesome job so far, can't wait to see more!

This is fantastic. All I think you need now is to practice your confused face, lol.

This costume idea is full of so much win it'd give Charlie Sheen a run for his money. (Yes, I totally made a Charlie Sheen "winning" joke. Sue me -_-). I love what you've done so far, and I can't wait to see more. Be sure to give us some shots of you in your costumes too!

Oh, and may I say, "Wild Stallyins Rule!"?

:mfg:You guys are awesome! ^_^ Definitely one of my dream cosplays! You both just made my night! I was actually putting together both Bill and Ted outfits for an upcoming con in May but my Bill can no longer attend the con with me so the cosplays were dropped....for now!
Now after seeing some love for it I wished I kept going on my mine at least! Both are looking most excellent! :toothy:

Yazoo_the_Kazoo: Y.A.N.A. :D! Glad I could give you some inspiration! You know about this website? http://www.billandted.org/ Good stuff in the How to... section! :D I'll look into the hiking socks. Thanks!

Radleia: Thanks! Ha ha ha yeah. I don't look a lot like Keanu really, but I'll do my best :D

Shuko: Thanks! I plan on going to a local Historical site near here and getting photos at the old houses. I'd like to also go sometime when they have reenactors there and get some photos with the guys in costume hahaha. I just hope they don't throw me out. That would be most non-triumphant...

Yumei: Thanks! I've totally got no Bill at the moment! That won't stop me from making this costume and it shouldn't stop you either :) Go for it!

The laces came today! My Ted jacket is finished, at least for now.It looks a little overly bright in these photos though. The laces I got are a bit smaller and not as wide as the ones he had on his jacket in the film, but the pattern is correct. I just need to find these in the right size. Anyone know the name of this particular pattern for laces? I know I know it but I can't think of what it's called.

I don't want to post full costume photos until it's all complete. Right now, besides the issue with the laces, I just need the watch and the socks and the wig trimmed more.

Are you talking about the coloration or the size? If it's the coloration, I'd say it's a diamond plaid of some kind... but if you're talking size, all I could say is wide laces, lol.

LOL I mean the actual name of the diamond plaid. I'm sure there's a simple name for it, like argyle or houndstooth would have. Something like that. But yeah I know they are wide laces :D

Using screencaps of Ted's socks from my DVD I managed to track down the closest thing I could find to his big puffy 80's socks with the red stripe. Ladies slouch socks. Yep. Those. I purchased white ones and dyed them gray. I'll be adding the red stripe with red fabric paint. The top of the sock will be folded/tried down just a bit to make the sock look correct on the starting edge. Photos coming soon when complete. Still need to buy shorter white shoe laces and dye them purple with a Sharpie marker and need to find the wide leather band wrist watch he has too.

Back to the socks....

Well, first attempt at making Teds socks was going fine. Dyed them gray. Success. Spraying them with aerosol fabric paint = fail. Shook the can well but the stuff ended up streaming out like ketchup. What the heck? Bogus!

So I just bought another pair of socks and a pump bottle of red fabric paint. Tested it on the old ruined sock and it worked great! Way more control with this bottle. Going to wait until tomorrow after work to dye the new ones and attempt to finish them this time.

Ted Theodore Logan socks = finished! Step 1. Buy ladies slouch socks, because you can't find big puffy mens 80's socks many places these days that look like Teds. Step 2. Dye socks pearl gray with RIT dye. Step 3. Purchase Tulip Fabric Spray, (the pump kind!), Christmas Red. Step 4. Stretch socks over form and mask off areas you don't want painted red with tape, etc. Step 5. Lightly spray mist onto sock. Let dry, repeat until color is strong. Step 6. Remove tape/plastic used to mask off rest of sock and let item dry. Use hair dryer to increase drying time.

Thank you!

Here is my watch and a bit on how I made it. It's not 100% accurate but it works well and gets the point across. I wish I knew what exact watch he was wearing haha.

What you will need to make it:

One cheap watch.

Some black leather or vinyl.

Heavy Duty Snaps.

Paper Fasteners

Scissors.

I bought my watch at a local store near here. It was only $5.00.

I cut down the straps that were already attached to the watch and then punched holes into each of them. The paper fasteners will go through these holes to attach the watch to the large strap.

For the large strap/wrist band I got some black vinyl and glued the white fabric sides together, leaving only the black showing. I then punched holes for and attached the heavy duty snaps. I rounded off the ends of the large strap with scissors.

Then I punched holes for the paper fasteners to go though and attached the main watch face to the large strap.

My watch originally had a white watch face but Ted's watch has a black watch face. To fix this I found an image of a watch face online and took it into photoshop, removed the hands and scaled it to fit into my watch. I then printed it out and cut it to fit inside the watch, leaving a nice small slice through it to allow it to fit around the centerpiece of the watch hands.

Photos of my finished costume coming soon!!!!!! Photoshoot happening today if all goes as planned!

Thank you! I'm actually planning on making a Bill costume. I'm a bit too tall for Bill, but it'll be cool to have if anyone wants to team up with me haha.

This is awesome! I so wanted to do his Bogus Journey costume back when my hair was his length.
