View Full Version : Babydoll Sucker Punch costume help!

Hello, Im wondering if anyone knows where I can find a pattern for the school girl uniform baby doll wears in sucker punch.
I've made a school girl uniform before, just kinda winged it. I had a problem with the collar, and I also see that the cuffs for the arms and the pleats on the skirt seem a bit to hard for me to wing it without a pattern. Wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what fabrics I should use, and how I might go about finding a pattern or any other sites on how to make a uniform with sleeves! Thanks so much!

The skirt in this pattern is close. Though you would need box pleats instead of knife pleats (one of the skirts does have box pleats, but they are to wide).
As for the fabric, it is supposedly an extremely lightweight denim

The one big thing is that for her battle school girl costume, it's not even pleats, just strips of fabric...

actually...after looking VERY closely at the costume, there's one slit in the side but other than that, it is pleats.

Weird, it definitely looks like you're right, but I could have sworn it was flaps during the first fight scene.

Can't help with pattern choice, but here is a site that has awesome close ups of the actual costume:
It says that it was made out of a denim linen. Also note that her skirt is on the mannequin backwards lol

I want to do Baby Doll as well. I was planning on using the cheerleading pattern shown above for the skirt. But on the top I'm clueless. I've seen tutorials on making the sailor flaps that I could follow but I need to know how to make the base first.

There is a video which I recently watched which showed how to make her schoolgirl skirt. I have yet to see the movie, but looking at the (amazing) link above, it is quite accurate. You can find it here, and she walks you through the whole process:
Also, it looks like any basic, fitted shirt pattern with princess seams would work well for the top, with it being modified only a little. It mostly seems to have additional darts to make it more fitted (two in the back, and it looks like some on the sleeve), and a very structured bottom to it. To be completely honest, depending on your skill level, the bottom band looks like an inverted pant/skirt waistband, complete with oversized belt loops in the front. It's otherwise small things, which would depend on your sewing experience. I would also consider looking for a jean jacket pattern, that might also come close.

Thanks, I was thinking of using this (http://www.simplicity.com/p-2055-misses-boleros-and-capelets.aspx) as the base for the top. I was going to alter it to make it more straight across and then add the sailor flaps.

I reeeeeeally wanna cosplay Babydoll from Sucker Punch. But not her battle self, just her in her regular around the club uniform, the blue linen dress, and its REALLY hard to find. If anyone could help me, I've attatched a picture of the dress.
Its REEEEALLY hard to find a good pic of the dress, but for anyone who has seen the movie should know which one I'm talking about.
Here ya go.
Thanks for the feedback!

because i'm a HUGE nerd, I carefully looked at this outfit during the movie (to cosplay it in the future)
The dress comes probably an inch or so above the knee, is button up all the way down and is pleated at the bottom.
other than illegally downloading the movie and getting screencaps from that, I have a feeling you won't get anymore photos :\

I did exactly what you just said XD Here I found a pic of the entire dresshttp://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/092/b/f/fdsg_by_murdocislove-d3d34qm.png
There it is! I need any store or anything or even if some one can commission it for me...

If you're thinking of a commission, thy the marketplace.
This would be a fairly easy project if you wanted to try, though. :) I would start by looking at the patterns at JoAnn's and such and seeing if there's a pattern you can modify - look for something that's right from the hips up - with or without the collar - you can add that and modify the skirt with help and it won't be too hard. :)
