View Full Version : Is my OC too plain?

I want to cosplay my OC Aurus for Anime Expo. I'm not sure if Aurus' outfit is entirely obvious as a cosplay since his outfit is fairly mundane. Though I did Czeslaw Meyer last year and his clothes are pretty plain too. I guess I mainly don't want to be categorized under "lazy/pulled-out-of-a-closet cosplay." I don't really expect people to recognize me since my webcomic is not super popular and only about 10 people who watch my DA are even going to AX.

Aurus looks like this: Pic 1 (http://fav.me/d3124tl) Pic 2 (http://fav.me/d39l3gr)

Though due to my deathly fear of contact lenses, I probably won't be running around with neon-seafoam-green eyes. :(

The only part of the cosplay I have so far is the fedora (http://fav.me/d2yxyxs) (it's bluer than the photo shows)

I also thought about switching the plain tie with a peacock design tie (http://www.etsy.com/listing/60401471/peacock-feather-silkscreened-microfiber?ga_search_query=peacock&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5131289) or peacock bow tie (http://www.etsy.com/listing/62274918/peacock-feather-self-tie-bow-tie-black?ga_search_query=peacock&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5131289).

The character is a wizard who casts magic with drawings so I might use a magic symbol and a fake gold brick since that's pretty much his most used spell aside from setting things on fire, which I shouldn't do.

I don't see it as a costume, more like formal wear. If it helps you think of it that way, then go for it. Either way, I like a snazzy getup like that on the field sometimes. Cons don't have enough class nowdays.

I just posted a new original, keep in mind mine are crazy bat insane and I probably shouldn't be posting some, but originals are more than half of my dedication to costuming. I see NOTHIGN wrong with you living it up in something you formulated yourself, it's not too plain (it's not a t-shirt/hoodie/pants and a baseball hat...those are red sox fans)
