Well, I've been looking though the gallery here at the Grell cosplays (for ideas since I'm working on my own Grell cosplay) and I noticed that a lot people that cosplay as him are girls.
So I was just curious as to why there are so few (from what I've seen so far) male Grell cosplayers?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. ^^;

Well....HOW girly is Grell? I mean...
*Girly/Sassy personality
*Insanely long hair
*Heels
*Makeup
*Constantly flirts with guys (even if most cosplayers here are girls anyways)
*Crossdresses some
...I'm sure few men are willing to do all that for a costume. Girls just flock to him either BECAUSE he's so girly or because he's pretty much a yaoi-magnet ([insert other reason here]).
Though I freakin' love male Grells when I do find them. (I promise, some exist! x3)

I only recall seeing one male Grell cosplayer and it was at Naka-Kon '11. He was also black, I'm noting that as I see very few black cosplayers. On a similar note, I've only seen one male Ciel cosplayer.

This reminds of what acksonl (a well know cosplay filmmaker on Youtube) said when asked why most of the cosplayers he films are female. His response was simply "most cosplayers are female."

I saw one at AX, so they do exist. <:3

Like Shana said, a lot of cosplayers are female so male Grells would be a bit more rare....

Yeah true, Grell is quite girly to say the least.
I guess it makes sense that he's probably more popular with girls than guys I suppose.

As for the two male Grells shown....just wow.
Those two are really good...Amazing!

Gosh, I can't wait to cosplay as Grell! >w<
Maybe I'll post some of my WIP pics in the Kuroshitsuji Cosplay thread sometime
(if that would be the right place to put it).

I'm going to second the "most cosplayers are female" response.

It's a shame, I think more people both male and female should cosplay her.

They aren't all that rare. Both "...And Sewing Is Half The Battle!" and Godly Team Cosplay have male Grell(e)s:

Male Grell who also does Sebastian. And he looks awesome.

I think Kuroshitsuji itself doesn't attract many males since its target audience is girls. And a character like Grell is even more of a turnoff because of his highly effeminate qualities, as mentioned above.

Grell is indeed cosplayed by many girls; mainly because he's a bit feminive and thinks of himself as a woman? o3o

Anyhow, just a heads-up: I'm going to copaly Grell next summer(I'm male)! 8D

One of our male cosplay group members is now cosplaying Grell. :'3

I've seen plenty of male cosplayers, but a lot of guys (especially straight guys) are probably not keen on cosplaying such an effeminate male character. I don't see many male Kuroshitsuji cosplayers period.

Quoth my husband (who IS a male Grell cosplayer: http://fav.me/d36z5n0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnaYHSiis0M )

"Running away from all the female Grell cosplayers."

Seriously fangirls, chill. Please. He now has a policy of only cosplaying Grell in situations where he has ways of avoiding the extra-clingy fangirls if need be.

I could see how that would be a problem. We do have a male Grell that goes to our cons, and I'm sure he gets fangirled over, but I've never seen anything too insane. I'm surprised at that, because he acts JUST LIKE HIM too. I guess it's because he's a big guy (like, 6'+ and therefore kinda intimidating) and doesn't look alot like him. /shrugs Or I've just never seen the worst of it.

Either way, fangirls are kind of ridiculous. Yes, he's a guy. Yes, he's cosplaying THAT character. No, you cannot attack him with love and stalk him around the convention. :/

Conventions aren't so bad, because people generally aren't going to go so crazy stalker-ish. Conventions are probably the only place he'll still bring it out (especially since I LOVE my Madame Red costume, and he likes wearing something that goes with my costume)

The situation that caused him to seriously want to limit his Grell time was at a local cosplay gathering, so it's not so easy to avoid people without leaving altogether. And he's also over 6'. But yeah, when the object of your affection is there with HIS WIFE (in matching costume, Madame Red in my case), probably a good sign to not be extra clingy. Although I think he was more disturbed by it than I was. He's a lot newer to cosplay than I am; as a result, I'm a lot less easy to faze by weirder parts of fandom. The main reason he cosplays Grell is because for various reasons, our cosplay group decided he was the best pick for him.

Oh my, that's seriously awesome! : O
I mean the costumes and the fact that you two are a couple copslaying Grell & Madame, not the fangirls. D:
I can imagine all the glomping and screaming. o3o
