Okay, I'm interested in making this costume, but keep having a big issue with getting started. I've been tracking down reference photos and I want to start making the thing but I have a problem.

Every single time I look away from the reference photos I forget what they look like!!!!

J/K

So who is going to make one of these? I might try it in the future after I get some other projects completed.

Lol.

Seriously though, it would be a cool costume to wear at a convention, especially if you could get other people to play along.

I'm with moonflower on this one. I would make it a point to hunt you down at a convention if this is completed. XD

Out all the heavy SEX makeup this is relatively easier to produce.

Modeling Clay ( to sculpt head and hands)
Plaster (to make molds)
Latex (use slush or brush on methode to build mask and hand)
Latex paint
Expanding foam (to fill out areas that you want more ridget.)

You can find tutorial online.

I'm not the only one that though of this?

Moffat actually mentioned that was their inspiration for the design during the confidential.

Found a local place to buy WED clay. Good price too :D I should be getting started on sculpting it relatively soon! Just need to make a form to sculpt it onto and buy the clay. I'll worry about getting the materials to make the mask for a later date.

I would seriously seriously buy one like this and just go to a convention just to freak out people.

I'm working on my own Silent cosplay for Otakon this year as I type this. ~
I really hope there's a Doctor Who photoshoot there just so I can go and crash it as a Silent. XD

As soon as I saw them, I started planning. I'm halfway through sculpting already. I'm trying to get several done for A-kon.

Hi just came across this thread after looking for some ref pics :)
Heres what I have done so far. about a days work there and its huge! (just at the moment ran out of clay)

But is still very rough, just getting the shape right before adding the details.
So if anyone can get some side and back pictures would be highly appreciated!

WOAMG! That is AMAZING!! How well are you able to breath/see in that mask?

Sadly, not very well. I got in contact with the original creator who works for the series and learned that the actors look through the deep slits near the nose. My heads are just a bit smaller than his, so I opened up the nose holes.
Breathing was a chore. We couldn't take very deep breathes or the entire mask would shrink in. And there was a lot of condensation from our breath.

Wow! That's fantastic you were able to talk to the creator. Are you going to re-vamp the masks to make them more breathable? They look so amazingly awesome I would love to see people wearing them at conventions.

What do you all, who have done this mask recommend in order for the head to keep its bulbous shape.
Someone mentioned expanding foam but do you just spray that into the latex mask and smooth it out until is it solid?
Or is there some way with foam or such that can be used.
thanks
