View Full Version : Armored border help!!!

Hi again!

I have a huge problem, I just realized. I'm aiming to make an Alexstrasza costume (picture) (http://th09.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2010/320/1/e/alexstrasza_by_xxxmeelyxxx-d32z29d.jpg) and I really need some help with the golden borders on the upper leg armor.

I looked up some previous Alexstrasza costumes here on cosplay.com and fell in love with Maryssas costume (this one) (http://www.cosplay.com/costume/211116/).

I sent her a message about this, btu since I haven't gotten a reply I'm asking here as well.

I made a picture that MIGHT explain what I want to achieve. I suck at drawing though.

I want the borders tro be slim and curved, but the only thing I manage to achiev is triangular shapes. You get it? xD

How can I make those pretty curved borders in the easiest way possible? I'm totally clueless. I suppose the easiest way would be casting somehow, but I want an easier way, maybe with some sort of fabric over foam? I have no idea.

I think you can get some of the thick craft foam, carve it into that curved shape and cover it with fabric, or paint it. I'm not sure what Maryssa did, but Kamui recently did some tutorials about making her Alexstrasza: http://www.kamuicosplay.com/

I already mailed Kamui and asked the same thing, btu thanks anyway! :D

Pretty sure the way I did it (since you cropped my photo up there) isn't accurate. You want a flat edge, not one that curves inward.

(Sorry for cropping your photo)

Then what did you use for yours?

The entire costume is craft foam.

So did you color the golden parts or cover it with fabric or something else?
