View Full Version : Thor's helmet and Mjolnir

Okay, my friends and I are planning an Avengers group for next year's MCM Expo and I'll be crossplaying as Thor (classic/EMH version http://marvel.com/images/gallery/character/1009664/images_featuring_thor/image/833742). I've already started planning on how I'm doing the main outfit, but there's two things I need some advice on; making his helmet and Mjolnir (Thor's hammer http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d1/Thor_494.jpg ).

For the helmet, I'll be needing something that's durable and long-lasting. Also, should I use feathers to make the wings on the sides or shall I make them from scratch using stiff card or something?

As for the hammer, I'm hoping to make it so that it complies with the Expo's Props and Weapons Policy http://www.londonexpo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/MCMWeaponsPropsRules.pdf. I want it to look authentic, but safe as well and not too heavy. I even thought about altering the belt so I could carry it there when I'm not posing with it.

If anyone can give me some tips or even direct me to some tutorials (I did Google them, but nothing relevant came up), I'd really appreciate it.

For Mjolnir this guy has a good tutorial of sorts:

For the helmet, there are pep files that exist or you can purchase one. If your are decent at freehand drawing you can do what I did and purchase a cheap spartan helmet and modify it so it fits better and draw the "wings" from foamies or card stock.
