I have pretty much finished one of my Flynn boots, but I can not find the button things that go on them. I'm not even sure what you would call them...they look like half circles more than buttons, and the few stores I have to shop at have nothing like them. If you've done Flynn's boots, what did you use?

This is what I've got so far....the boot as it came when purchased, and the boot I have finished.

Ahh..lol...we finished the boots a long time ago. But you can find them on ebay! Just search for "pirate boots" and they'll come up.

You can see the boots in this shot...I ended up buying some antique brass buttons on etsy to top them off.

You did such an amazing job. I use those same original boots for my Flynn, I was just too lazy to do anything to them haha. Any chance you'd be willing to make me a similar piece that went on top like on yours? :D bwahaha. They look perfect.

Poody, it was very easy to do. I couldn't find a good faux leather at my one little lonely fabric store so I hit a thrift store and found this great old brown bag that was the perfect shade and feel. I think it was a diaper bag. So yeah, Flynn has diaper bag boots. :D
Just cut some squares, glue the edges under to make them look thicker (and not just cut on the edges!) and you are in like Flynn. The straps are also from the same thrift store bag.

I REALLY wanted that piece to be stiff, like the park version of Flynn. My husband even contacted a leathersmith he sorta knows to see if he could sell me some scrap pieces, because what you need is very stiff, very thick leather...it's almost like a cast if that makes sense. Ultimately I decided what I had was "good enough" but I may remake them sometime in the future if we ever have another reason to use the costume.
The outfit would fit me but the boots are about a million times too big since it's for my son. I don't think he'll ever wear it again after this Halloween, so we'll see what ends up happening to all of it.

So, I bought similar boots on E-bay but the INSIDE portion of the boot has a zipper going up all the way. Did you alter the overhanging cuff to cover the zipper or was it pretty much fine as-is?

The zipper is on the inside of our boots too...left it as is.

I made these boots:

For the button things, I got 8 button covers:

Those should be cheaply available at any fabric store. I broke off the back of them, painted them a light gold color and glued them on.
