Hey guys, I made a tutorial a while ago and have not had a chance to share it. This one shows you how you can make your own wig detangler spray using household stuff most of us have lying around. It is cheap and pleasant-smelling, no ventilation systems or working outside required. The only items you need are a spray bottle, lotion (scented or otherwise), water, your wig, and a wig comb/brush (whichever you use).

I mostly use it on long straight wigs, but TifaIA (who is also on the forums here) reported that it works on curly wigs as well without wrecking the style.

Feel free to leave comments/questions/etc here. Feedback is always appreciated!

Housekeeping note: Mods, I cannot submit anything to the user-submitted tutorials subforum (I get an insufficient rights error) so move this whenever. I would appreciate it if I could get rights to post there as I have other things I would like to share! Thanks.

I'm definitely going to try this :) I usually use Motions, but sometimes it leaves it really oily and I have to wait a while for it to dry

I was about to go by the 3-in-1 silicone spray but my parents weren't happy with me workin in its fumes. I will definitely do this instead! Can't wait to try it.

Thank you so much for sharing this! It works just as well as silicone but is nowhere near as dangerous with the fumes. I'm keeping some of my mixture in a travel size hairspray bottle to use at conventions.

I definitely need to try this...since I have plenty of unused lotions.

Does this work well as a pre-treatement for long wigs? I must say it's very tempting as I've definitely got extra lotion around.

Do you mean using it before your wig has tangles? It can be used any time and it will help the long wigs tangle less.

Indeed I do. Thanks! :) I'll be adding it to my wig before wearing it at the con!

Definitely going to try this. My Lucille wig is a ratty mess and I need it for november.

Edit: Ratty mess gone. My Lucille wig is now as nice as when i first took it out of the bag. Prince Ludwig is softer than it's ever been and Kaito looks gorgeous. Even my short Labrador wig has less frizzes. This stuff is amazing. If I see you at Otakon my friends and I are probably going to hug you, giving you fair warning.

I know this is an older topic, and I hope I am allowed to post / ask this:
What kind of lotion do you refer to? I am not too familiar with some terms, so better ask before regretting a mistake :)

Hand lotion, body lotion, baby lotion, scented or unscented... you can use pretty much anything you want for this recipe. You may use pretty much anything you want and it does not have to be an expensive product either. Something you buy at a discount store or even one of the small bottles that hotels have in rooms will work just as well.

Also, do not worry about making mistakes. You can always wash this out of your wig and start over.

Thank you, for your reply :)
Will certainly come handy with my wig - it's wavy and is a bit stubborn, certainly will give it a go :D
