View Full Version : Batwoman Cape

Hey guys,
Despite having worn my Batwoman costume on several occasions, it's still a WIP. I still have my boots to finish and my gloves to figure out, and a little minor details I wanna fix up here and there, but what I need suggestions on is the cape...
My cape is black and red Satin with a wingspan of something like 6-8 feet. I've not measured it since I made it and several adjustments were made so I don't exactly remember.

Anyways, I used to have wooden dowels in the top edges of the cape so that I could hold it up and you could see it fully extended, but one broke because the cape is so long that when I wasn't holding them the dowels would half drag, half stick up and it was really annoying. So the past couple of times I have just let the cape hang loose, and while that is more comfortable and works better for walking/blowing in the wind.

But I miss being able to extend my cape!

I was thinking of taking apart some of those little umbrellas that pop out and open, or maybe like a toy lightsaber or something? I'm trying to think of telescopic things that spring open that are fairly small closed up but fairly sturdy open... Any ideas??

Don't know if it helps but a few years ago a company called California Costumes made a set of Gargoyle wings that were hinged and made from plastic and they actually flapped. The "wings" were a painted fabric but if you were able to find a pair you may be able to retrofit with your cape fabric and use the framework.

Hmmmm interesting... I will look into this. I don't need it to flap, but if there's a way to just hold up the whole cape for pics without it being too cumbersome when I'm walking, that's what I'm looking for.
