I know this is a long way away, but who's planning on going? i went this past summer and it was pretty good for my first con experiance, although a bit dificult 'cause i came straight from my last day of summer camp and had pulled an all-nighter the morning before  and it looks like the timing this year wont be any different...

i'll probably be re-using my Songstress Yuna costume that i'm wearing to Anime Boston.....and that i have yet to make >.< but i'm not sure about who i'd be bringing with me.

the oficial website says the con will be July 16-18; what's everyone else's planns?

I didn't go last year (and it's one of VERY few New England anime cons I haven't attended.) I might consider going if they get the MacHall guys again. There's a certain Digimon here that wants to get back for all the grief that friends have caused because of this:
http://www.machall.com/index.php?strip_id=235
...which is a reference to this:
http://www.machall.com/index.php?strip_id=72

You have no idea how many people have pointed me to those.

*sigh* i checked both my camp & the con websites & i'm not too happy to find out that i definatly cannot go friday! meaning i'll probably just go on Saturday...and on verry little sleep at that (unless i a) dont go to camp or b) find some time to sleep the last night of camp, wich is highly unlikely)

Patrick-i dont think they've posted their guest info yet, but i could be wrong, and i dont know what the chances of McHall comming back are (i didnt pay much attention to the pannles)

Chou-good luck with your roken group! if i knew what it was and had time/money to do 2 costumes this year i'd go with you, but thats rather unlikely....

gale roken is what rurouni kenshin fans call it since that is what nobuhiro watsuki calls it

OH! lol, that makes sense and now i feel stupid. hehe, i've actually watched a few epps. of Kenshin, my friends have tons of DVDs, and i like it. i must say, though, the best part is the outtakes that the english voice cast did. although, i think the berserk outtakes are my favorite outtakes i've seen to date.

to anyone who went last year, do you think Connecticon will be any better this year? i was kind of dissapointed how small it was after hearing the success of AB. it was still a nice con, though, and i cant wait to go to it this year again!

I will be going this year, and my friends and I are doing a Super Mario group for one of days, and another I will probably be wearing my theif Yuna costume. I'm lucky, because I live about 20 minutes away from the con, and don't have to get a hotel for this one! Considering last year was the first year, I'm sure it will be bigger this year, now that more people know about it.

Gale

true...its only too bad i cant go on friday >.< but i'll be having plenty of fun at camp! i live about an hour from there, but my camp is only 20-30 minutes away.

I'm one of the ones going with the RuroKen group..actually started it ^^; but whatever, yeah I was dissapointed too but this year they've got the English voice actor for Omi Tsukiyono ^___^ So in honor of that I'm going as Omi too...Maybe Death or Delirium from The Sandman comic as well. Not sure yet. ^^ And actually I think I have a picture of you Gale, you did go as Miaka last year right? I've got a shot of you and Nuriko by the reg. booth.

If I'm still in the area come July, I may go. Hey, any excuse to make and wear all of the costumes I have planned! By that time I should have Magi (.hack//DUSK), Flonne (Disgaea), and several others done.

I entered their coloring contest at Nekocon but sadly lost. Maybe they'll have another at Katsucon.

Machall rocks, but it is sad that their penchant for Digimon porn has caused you grief.

Like I mentioned in the CTcon thread in the other forum, I'll be there! I totally missed it last year - only heard that it existed two days before the con (I still can't believe CT has its own convention) and was too busy with Otakon stuff to get there. But I'll be there this year, with family and friends ^_^ Working on a Shaman King cosplay group, and a Snow Fairy Sugar group. Can't wait!

I only have it on my computer :sulk: unfortunately but if you IM me at SlayrsXelloss I can send it to you, though it is kind big ^^; I did dress up last year but no one recognized me  I was Heero (Brown hair, green tanktop and spandex shorts) Ed from Cowboy Bebop (White shirt, spandex and Ein doll) and Ranma(Though that was only friday) But if you by chance do have any I'd love to see them. ^_^

Gale

Oh, I was meaning to ask - for folks who were there last year, is there costume competetion? If so, how does it work?

Gale
02-13-2004, 08:11 PM
i was kind of out of it by the time the rave started, so i left early, but i know that the competition was durring the Sat. night rave/dance. i dont know if things will be any different; it was only the first year, so the con was pretty small. the rave was in a little calfiteria or somthing and the stage was just a small platform, but what i was there for was pretty fun. if only i hadnt been so tired, and my parents hadnt been there....oh well! lol

laerry
02-15-2004, 11:29 PM
During the rave? Are you serious? Blah. I don't usually stick around for those things . . . but I might if I have to. Just sit in a corner until it's time to judge costumes

Gale
02-18-2004, 10:47 PM
thats what some people did! lol

Adara
02-26-2004, 06:43 PM
Ahhh! Raves are the BEST!! :D I went to the one at AnimeNEXT 03, and it kicked serious butt. >< I didnt dance though, me and all my friends hung out in the corners or off to the side being morons.

I'll be going to ConnectiCon! I'm planning on wearing a Kaoru costume [from Rurouni Kenshin] and an Akane costume [Ranma]. Possibly a Nami [One Piece] or Saga [A Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar].

If you guys wanna chat sometime, IM me on AIM ^-^ It'd be cool to meet up with some more anime fans, especially in the area. [I'm in Bristol, CT]

Gale
02-27-2004, 11:28 AM
I'm so glad they finally started a con in CT. as this thread shows, there's tons of fans in the area! i can't wait until this summer to go!!!! i'll finally have a chance to start my costume after next week too =)

Gale

yay! vacation week! time to start my costume for the con =)

Adara
03-10-2004, 08:22 PM
ooh, laery i didnt even see before--youre working on a Snow Fairy Sugar group? ^_^ i was considering making a Saga, since my hair would be just fine and its such a simple costume--i already own a shirt like hers, it would only need a few adjustments. only thing is, i was planning on dying it back [hah, yes, back.] to dark purple for my Kaoru costume, but then, thats still kinda up in the air.

ohh, jeez. i have no idea what costumes i'm doing. e.e i'm so indecisive.

I went for just Saturday last year, and the whole idea of it was a total turnoff. I know they say that things will be better this year, yadda yadda, but honestly, isn't the first impression what counts? They gave my friend a badge and forgot to take his payment! If that happened to him, who else got to weasel in and how much money did they lose?

Just some food for thought.

Gale

it's a big deal to even have a con in connecticut, believe me, so leave your dissing at the door. yes, so in its first year Anime Boston was a whole lot better, but all cons have to start somewhere and CTcon started through a college club, and therefore had to start small. maybe small cons arent your thing, so then you should have realized that from the start. here's what one of the organizers of CTcon has to say:

[Connecticon] was put together in 6 months, by 3 people, with limited resources in 2003. This year we've got resources, about 15 people helping organize, and increased/better facilities.

Big cons are great to attend if you:

1) like waiting in long lines
2) don't like a lot of variety in what you can do
3) don't want to meet new people
4) like seeing lots of REALLY GOOD cosplay
5) want the opportunity to "meet" lots of big name guests of honor

ConnectiCon is good if you:

1) like a HUGE variety of events (we've got over 2,000 hours of events this year)
2) love a friendly atmosphere where you can talk to just about anyone
3) don't like waiting in long lines
4) want to see some good cosplay
5) want to actually meet and interact with the guests of honor
6) are interested in more than one genre (anime) but like comics, card games, and/or science fiction
7) don't want to sleep (we run for 58 hours straight without closing down!)
2 DDR Rooms equipped with 8' projection screens & stereo sound

ConnectiCon might be "small" with just 800+ attendees in our first year but we're going to grow and become a larger convention with more guests, and events over the next few years. We should have about 1200 - 1500 people attend this year.

Lots of people want to know who (Guests of Honor) will be attending a convention:

Sci-Fi Guest(s)
Peter Mayhew - Chewbacca "Star Wars"

Anime Guest(s)
Jamie McGonnigal - Takeo Takakura "Magic Users Club"
Mike Sinterklaas - Leonardo "TMNT", runs an anime dubbing studio
Lianne Sentar - Author "Sailor Moon" novels, translator for TokyoPop manga
Steve Bennett - Animator "Urusei Yatsura", president Studio Ironcat

Web Comic Guest(s)
Pete Abrams - Sluggy Freelance
Ian Jones Quartey - RPG World
Tim Buckley - CtrlAtlDel
Michael Terraciano - Dominic Deegan
Brian Carroll - Instant Classic
Mike Smith - ExeWorld
Rich Stevens - Diesel Sweeties
Jon Allison - ScaryGoRound
Scott Ramsoomair - VGCats
Shawn Handyside - Staccato Comic
Rob Balder - Partially Clips
Jenn Weaver - Splurd
Jeremy Kayes - Splurd

we are still working on confirming more guests all the time, expect probably two more Anime Guests, another sci-fi guest, and at least 10 more web comic/online personality guests at the very least.

edit:  well, i'd say that was a well used 100th post! lol

understand that the wording and opinions of all that comes from a somewhat biast source, but the facts are all true. i hope this information helps some people in their decision of weather to go or not. CTcon certainly isnt for everyone, but if you dont have anything nice to say about it, you might as well just ignor this topic and leave us be.

Ang
03-11-2004, 04:35 PM
Oh no, excuse me for sharing my opinion.

And personally, I've been to cons that were way smaller than what I saw at CTCon last year, also run by a college club and put together just as fast. However, they run like clockwork. IE: FITCon in Florida. I knew CTCon was going to be small, and I liked what I saw on the website last year so I gave it a shot anyway. Obviously if I was turned off by small cons I wouldn't have even attempted it.

The fact Steve Bennett is going will probably make the difference because he is an awesome guy, and I hope the con runs better this year for their sake. I know hell will freeze over before Rhode Island concedes to having a con.

laerry
03-12-2004, 06:18 AM
*shrug* I didn't go last year, so I don't know what it was like, though I did hear it was pretty small. It's hard to be perfect your first time doing something. However, the way I figure, if I want it to get bigger and better, I've got to support it while it's still growing, right? Looks like there's going to be a lot of good workshops and stuff.

Adara
03-13-2004, 12:30 PM
In my opinion, its not so much the events that make a con fun. Its the people attending the con that really make the 'fun' atmosphere. At my last [and only] con, I was only there for one day, and I didn't really even participate in any of the events much, but I still had the time of my life because I was surrounded by some really awesome people.
So don't complain that the con wasnt that great last year--if you're gonna go this year, just go thinking that you'll have a good time instead of thinking that its gonna suck.

Ang
03-13-2004, 12:46 PM
I'm not planning to attend this year, I want to give them a good 2 or 3 years to establish themselves before going back. Like I said, they HAVE the potential, but since none of my group intends on going again, and I can't guarantee myself good art sales yet, I figure we should just save ourselves the stress.

I did see a few good costumes last year, and I spent money in the dealer's room, so it's not like it was a total bust.

So before you automatically jump down someone's throat for having an opposite opinion than you do, maybe you should let them tell their story first, or never go into politics. ^_^

Adara
03-13-2004, 05:41 PM
hmm. It would be awesome if they developed into a really good con within a few years.

I mean, a good con in Connecticut of all places.
Not to mention 25 minutes from my house.

That would be a dream come true :D

Well, since Shoujocon isn't happening this year, and it's only about 2 hours away from me, I *may* go with a few friends. I don't know yet, I haven't made any new costumes yet this year. I'd really like to make a Chii, Summoner Yuna, and Death costume, as well as Princess Jupiter... but I'm not sure if I'll have the time (and money) to finish them all before July. I'd really like to make it though. I'll see what happens.

Uhm...Does anyone know what parts of the con minors are going to be allowed to go to? I was told they would be allowed in some parts, but that wasn't exactly specific... :lost:

Gale
03-26-2004, 07:56 PM
minors can go to almost all of it, i think the only restriction is the Hentai workshop...

Adara
03-27-2004, 07:09 PM
Yeah...the only restrictions should be on hentai material. Or if they have sake there or something.

Adara
03-28-2004, 04:52 PM
heh, well AnimeNext had a sake panel. and you see or hear about sake all the time in anime, so its not that weird =P Now that I think about it, I doubt they will, seeing how its at a college. They probably have a rule against alcohol in the buildings, or on campus, or whatever. X.x;

laerry
03-29-2004, 06:12 AM
Yeah, that seems more correct. Serving sake would probably be more trouble than it's worth.

Gale
04-06-2004, 08:18 AM
gah....this is really depressing that Anime Boston is this weekend....and I wont be there 'cause of the darned pre-registration....i wish CTcon were sooner!!!! althouhg, i still have yet to do much for my costume  so maybe its a good thing after all....

KuroBara
04-06-2004, 04:30 PM
There are cons that have sake tasting panels. If done right, it shouldn't be any trouble. It depends on whether or not the con center has an alcohol license. Plus, if it's educational there's fewer restrictions. (IE: at most culinary schools, students under 21 can participate in wine classes). Don't worry about missing it, alcohol will still exist when you're 21 ^_~

Gale
04-07-2004, 09:53 AM
lol; i could care less. i've tried wine, champaigne, and a bit of rum too....all except the rum i honestly didnt like, and knowing how strong Sake is supposed to be, i don't think i'll be trying it all that soon, even once i'm 21.

SpikeSpiegel
04-11-2004, 11:49 AM
What other cons are in the New England area?

Adara
04-11-2004, 10:08 PM
AnimeBoston, which ended today. Uhh, I think there's one in Maine. There might be a few in NY, but im not sure. I know they had I-Con and Genericon already, and BAAF and Shoujocon are cancelled..
I'm going to AnimeNext [animenext.org] in Seacacus, NJ [probably spelled that wrong..] this June. It should be about 1.5 hrs away from me [I live in Bristol], since my boyfriend's house which is 20-30 minutes farther south than Seacacus is 2 hrs away.
Off the top of my head thats all I can come up with. ^^; There are a few sites with lists of conventions.. and you can always look around google.

Hmm a songstress Yuna.... did you hug me at anime boston? I was the KH Cloud there.

me? lol....i didnt end up going to AB...its too much (time/money/energy) to go to 2 cons for me this year, plus i missed pre-reg and i was only gunna go for one day (until i found out my school had good friday off! >.<)

in any case, it looks like i might have 2 costumes for CTcon. maybe even 3! but i'll only be there one day, so i'm not sure if i'll wear them all. my main one will be Songstress Yuna, but i might have 2 secondary ones of Rakka (from Haibane Ranmei, sp? i can never spell that right...) and Kaylee (from the TV show Firefly). if i do bring my other costumes...i wanna wear them, but i have no idea when for just one day in the con.

I went last year and it was pretty damn bad. The panels and workshops were generally poorly run, allthough there were a few good ones. There was an overall lack of signs to get building to building. The convention is spread over at least a quarter mile of campus...in three-four different buildings. There were so few people, I heard some of the dealers didn't even break even. It was definately the crappiest con I've been to thus far, and I've been to quite a few cons, large and small.

I'll definately go this year, if only to visit steve. I'll probably just head over on saturday, though.

you know, idealy, I think I'd rather cosplay as Summoner Yuna this year; my hair is the right length, and I'm even 17 this year. too bad I already have things planned out for my songstress outfit...If I could wait 2 years to do it I would, but I'm not about to put my mom through that...lol

question for people who've already attended: considering it seems to be a sci-fi/anime con rather than just a straight con, are there usually cosplayers from sci fi fantasy like LotR, Star Wars, X-Files, etc...or is still most of the cosplay anime? I was thinking of some other costumes...but don't want to be continuously pointed out to, "That's not anime!"
i know spike already said he was going as a variety of things, but just double checking to be sure :-P
As for FF costumes, if I get to go, I'll be wearing my tidus costume ^_^

Heyo!

I MIGHT be going to Connecticon, pretty sure. Me and my friends are having one of two different groups...Or maybe both! XD

Utena - (In which I would be Juri and/or Nanami)
Magic Knight Rayearth - (In which I would be Primera)

Or maybe even a Chobits group since my Sumomo costume is almost done. Heh. ^.^

Anyways, is this Con worth going to? Or should I save my monies? I checked the website, is there even a cosplay competition? o.O

JacksUsername- when I went it was mostly anime cosplayers, but I doubt anyone would care if you didn't wear something from anime/videogames. I might be wearing my Kaylee outfit, and she's from the SciFi show Firefly (which is often acused of copying some anime).

also...If I see you in that Tidus costume while I'm dressed as Yuna, there definatly has to be some group pictures!

Gale

Mew_Pudding- yes, there is a competition, but I didn't stay for it last year. It's durring the dance, and pretty late in the evening. if its like last year, its also pretty unoffical.

I'd say go to it. last year's con was pretty small, but this year its supposed to be a lot better (just look at the numbers! last year it was put on by 3 people--THREE! this year it's being run by 18...that's six times more people! meaning it will be at least six times better)

honestly, though, I have never been to another con to compare it with, but I would definatly urge you to give it a chance. also, if you have any questions, for example: the contest, go ahead and post on their oficial board. the mods are very helpfull, and you dont have to register to post.

Alright. ^.^ Since I can`t go to Otakon this year :waaaah: The summer con schedule is desolate but, my friend brought this up, so were hoping to go as a Magic Knight Rayearth group, Even if it is small, it could NEVER be as small as Genericon. x.o; I`m sure it`ll be fun. ^.^

I finally started my (songstress) Yuna costume...I made the earring (out of paper beads! its so light!) and I found the perfect belt in a store yesterday! I also have most of the blue fabric cut out for the shirt, and I'm in the process of altering the patterns for it =) just hope I can finish it by the time I go away to camp, so my mom won't have to do it for me...

Gale

question:

As I've mentioned, I'll be cosplaying as Songstress Yuna at the con this year. A while back I wrote a song based on Yuna's experiances in FFX and what I had then heard of from FFX-2. Since I've started playing acustic guitar, I set the song to some chords I know how to play, and I was wondering: should I find a time to maybe get out my guitar and play my song? I'm not sure that my parents would be happy about it, but I will have my guitar with me 'cause I'll be comming straight from camp.

Hehe...or maybe I can ask someone to let me sing it a capella durring the dance/rave/masqurade/whatever you wanna call it. that would be fun XD

wish i could do some x-files stuff, siegel, but can't think of any blonde haired people from the show besides langley for some reason....and my hair aint' gonna be quite that long :-P, wish there would be a krycek there, he was awesome.

hehe, gale, that would be aweseom for the guitar thing...is there a karaoke room or anything you might be able to play in, might get a good audience.

does anyone know if there's a schedule for photoshoots or anything of group photos? I just went over to the Connecticon boards and didn't see too much here, so was wondering if anybody here had plans for big shoots, so I can be sure to grab plenty of pictures ^_^

KuroBara
06-23-2004, 11:23 PM
Jack- good idea, we should plan a group shoot. I don't think cosplay.com is going to be there in an official manner, so we can't call it a cosplay.com gathering. But, sometime saturday afternoon we should have a "gathering of cosplayers who happen to be members of a certain website". Any suggestions for times? Does anyone know if any photographers are coming? David Ng? Fansview?

laerry
06-25-2004, 11:54 AM
Aaaahhh! CTcon is getting close! Still so much costume work to do! How's everybody else coming along? And I don't see why we couldn't have a Cosplay.com gathering. We're members of the site - if we gather, that makes it a cosplay.com gathering ;b

KuroBara
06-25-2004, 02:06 PM
Laerry, this is why:

Cosplay.com Group Photos

A Cosplay.com Group Photo is defined as any group photo taken of an organized group of Cosplay.com members, under the heading of being the official Cosplay.com "group photo". We do recognize that many members want to get together for a big Cosplay.com group photo at conventions where Cosplay.com is not officially attending. However, too many times now people have been taking over the "Cosplay.com group photo" themselves, either going over our heads or just not even conferring with us regarding a time and place. A few times this has even happened at conventions we were attending, and one time I was even yelled at by security for a rather chaotic "Cosplay.com Group Photo" which I merely happened to stumble across.

So, for the sake of staving off any confusion as well as limiting any liability, from this point forward all official Cosplay.com group photos will be handled as follows:

All Cosplay.com "group photo" times and locations will be finalized by Kyle (Admin).
If Cosplay.com is attending in an official capacity, Kyle will set the time and location for the photo, as well as run the photoshoot.
If Cosplay.com is not officially attending but Eurobeat King is, he will be setting the time and location for the photo, as well as run the photoshoot.
If neither Cosplay.com nor Eurobeat King is attending the convention, Cosplay.com will allow someone to hold a Cosplay.com group photo, but this person will be approved by Cosplay.com and must keep Cosplay.com informed of the developments of the photoshoot. This person MUST be over 18 and in good standing on the website to even be considered.
Please understand that we consider the group photo one of our personal highlights of each convention, as it gives us a chance to interact with site members as well as take a lot of photos. However with the immense growth of the site over the past year, what once was a relaxed policy must now be reigned in, in order to stave off any confusion. If you have any questions on this matter or would like to offer to help in a convention we're not attending, please PM Admin on the boards. Being the first to ask to run a photo does not mean you'll be the one doing it, as we will always give precedence to people we know personally.

So, we can have an unofficial gathering without using the cosplay.com name or someone can take the initiative & contact Admin with a time and place. In all of his announcements he says he's extremely busy at the moment, so it may be better to just hold a Cosplayer group photo.

Will most of us be there Saturday? That afternoon, maybe around 3:00 could be a good time. They've yet to post a schedule, so if that ends up being scheduled around a popular workshop or guest panel we can change it. Suggestions?

It would be nice if the con had a Cosplay Clubhouse. A place where we could meet up, take photos, chat. A table with emergency costume fixing supplies like hot glue and safety pins would be welcome. All right, I'll stop daydreaming now. Does anyone have input or suggestions for a group photo? (Which, at this time, we are not calling a cosplay.com photo)

JacksUsername
06-25-2004, 02:06 PM
fansview should be there....its on their schedule anyway....

arghhhh, I wanted to fix a lot of inaccuracies in my Tidus costume that I had last year, but not sure if I'm going to have the time now, so I'll probably wear it as it was last year...hopefully I'll be able to fix the left arm by Otakon. That's the only costume I'll be wearing cause me and my friend are just driving in for a day cause we can't afford to go the whole weekend.

OOps, this got posted after that last post...

yeah, i'd be up for an unofficial group shot, Saturday would be cool, because right now it looks like that's the only day I'm going to be able to come cause of money and transportation reasons.

dark_feather
06-26-2004, 10:31 AM

Well, it sounds like they're more worried about what we call our group photo, but hey, why doesn't someone (over 18) get in touch with the Cosplay.com people and make it official? Get permission? Says we can. Then we wouldn't have to worry about it.

This was just posted:
We have gotten a lot of questions about the ConnectiCon Cosplay and Skit show/contest. Here are the latest details:

The show will be from 7pm to 9pm on Saturday night in Hillyer 125, the auditorium.

Registration for the show will be at the main registration desk, HOWEVER, you may register your costume or skit early by emailing me and giving me the details of your skit, and/or including a reference picture if you have a costume entry.

Registration will begin on Friday morning and go until the time slot of 2 hours has been filled, based on a first come/first serve basis.

There will be a preemptive run-through of all the costumes and skits starting at 5pm on the lawn outside the BACK of the library. It will be very basic and casual. We should have a decent amount of room and privacy so we donít ruin the surprise for our audience.

If you have any questions, please email me at starflower@reekielum.com. See you there!!

Eep! Stage! *runs and hides*

Just kidding. :)

It was nice to meet you. It'd be nice if there were some sort of gathering of cosplayers after the contest or even before, for photos and all.

If you seen me again don't be a stranger :) I'll also be walking around as a Stormtrooper on Saturday before the contest. There will be quite a few more Stormtroopers there on Saturday so look for the tallest one and that will be me.

Actually, after some discussion, Spike and I decided it'd be great to have an unofficial cosplay gathering at 3:30 pm SATURDAY, in the field outside the Student Union (where you had to go to register). That way we'll have time to meet, greet, and take pictures before folks who are competing in the cosplay contest need to go to the run-through for that. Hope it's not too late notice!

sorry I've been away for so long. first I was busy making my costume and then I was at summer camp for two weeks...in any case, I was at the con yesterday and it was great!!! and omg...Mew...you were the CUTEST FREAKIN THING EVER!!! I loved your skit! hehe, my mom was talking to your mom and she can't believe how busy you've been with cons and that you made both those costumes yourself. lol...also, thanks to everyone who didn't mention about cosplay.com while my mom was in earshot ;) lol.

congrats to Spike, Mew, and Laerry...and anyone else here who won stuff at the contest. I personally chose a Bijou plushie for my prize. I still can't believe I won anything with everything that seemed to have gone wrong with my costume...ugg!!!

-the skirt was too small & not pleated and there was a flap of extra fabric just tucked under the elastic in the back just to hide a big slit my mom had to cut so i could actually walk,
-my mom finished the boots at 5AM and they wouldn't stay up...eventually we ditched the stick-on velcroe and used saftypins
-not to mention that just about everything was being held together by use of safty pins
-even though we tried to defy the laws of fabric by dyeing pollyester, it was nearly tragic when I splashed the half skirt in the bathroom and then when we almost got caught outside before the contest
-my mom forgot my colored contacts that we bought special for this and now I have 3 pair of green contacts with no real use for them
-sice my mom had to finish so much at the last minute, she used some type of shiny brown yarn we had left for the braid, even though my idea had been to use my real hair that I had left from cutting and donating the most of it to L.O.L.
-my necklace never came even though we ordered it a long time ago, so I had to wear a substitution necklace...

hehe...don't mind my ranting...this will probably be x-posted in the Yuna thread...

ALSO did anyone get a picture of me & the Lenne girl when we were singing on stage? my mom did't take any pictures!!

laerry
07-18-2004, 03:27 PM
Yeah! I won something! XD Although I think I just impressed Bryanna there with my masochistic creative drive - I drove her nuts with questions when I was doing the art contest (I did another entry which was MUCH more involved than the one on the badge - it's on the website if you want to see), then made all those costumes AND props . . . I think she felt sorry for me XD
Of course, I almost didn't get to enjoy my victory. When I ran to hear the announcement of the winners (almost missed it, playing around in the hallway), I left behind my violin bow which I had borrowed from my dad. It was his from when he was a kid. When I got back, it was gone. I could have died. I felt so bad. But it turned out one of the janitors had picked it up, and I was able to get it back before the end of the night. *phew*!!
But yeah, Cosplay.com rocked the cosplay contest ^_~ Honestly, I got so much help around here, I probably wouldn't have done as well without it!
I got a L'Arc en Ciel CD for my prize, which I can maybe get signed at Otakon! *fingers crossed*
Oh, I didn't take any pictures, Gale, but my unofficial photographer may have. I'll ask him.

Yeah, that was us. I was so happy that people loved our skit. I was afraid no one would laugh because they didn't get the jokes, but I was so happy when they did. Later, a bunch of people told us we rocked and that they "voted" for us. One person even said that if he wasn't sitting down, he'd have fallen over laughing.

I was kind of disappointed with they way they judged the skits, though. Last year they did the cheering thing too and it didn't work out well at all. What ever happened to the 3 skit categories anyway? Oh well. ^_^;;

Were the stormtroopers actual made costumes or were they bought offline or at a store or something? Because they seemed way waaaay too accurate to be made (i mean, cmon they were aweosme!) ! Mario Brothers were awesome but the clapping thing was kinda lame if you ask me. *bias* cough cough *bias* (durh! judges!)

This has been one of my favorite cons, i think i enjoyed it more than AB. The game rooms were awesome at night (very scant in the bemani section) and i had them set up pop'n music, which is pretty addicting, even though i kinda sucked at it. The DDR room wasn't stinky, but it definitely had an unbearable amount of humidity.

The naruto game was entertaining to watch too. Awesome game, i might order it from japan. ;p

The skits were awesome, and I loved the mario brothers to death. Heh and Mario's waterpack was falling apart. I couldn't tell if it was improv or not because some of the jokes/things they were doing seemed like it'd be kinda hard NOT to plan, but, heck, maybe im wrong.

Chewy seemed angry at the con, therefore i didn't want to bother him with a handshake and chatter. The Dealer's room didn't have Naruto headbands. -_-;;

The rave was poop when i walked in so I left for the game rooms. Nothing much else. Great con because it was somewhat small, but definitely plenty to do. after everything pretty much subsided, the game rooms were where i stayed until like 3 in the morning. O_o

Hehe hojo was definitely the best in the ff8 skit with the PLUSHIES line (and the walk of course) followed by Rinoa being tripped by Quistis; and so the bawling commenced.

Got a great picture attacking a soda machine with the FF8 peoples!

Well...I have pictures but my darned dial up connection is being stupid and not letting me upload anything! I got a bunch of pics of you, Mew, 'cause my mom started talking to your mom and became fixated on how amazing it was that you made it and how good it was. soon as I can get the pics up I'll tell everyone =)

Alrightie, photos from ConnectiCon 2004 are now up on my website at www.ng-master.com/web/animecons.html. Bear in mind that I was only able to attend on Saturday (was working Friday and had to run out to a meeting on Sunday). All the same, I had a grand time for the day I had available! Hope to see you all again at a future con!

I love the pic of me and my friend Mike (Auron and KH Cloud), definitely bad-ass.

Haha! The one diet coke left, that got stuck... lmao.

I defnitely need pictures... I have to get my film developed but I don't know when. If anyone else has pictures, POST THEM!!

I've got the pics, i'll be bringing them to Miscellaneous' to scan them very soon. Hopefully we'll meet up so you can see them sooner.

This was definitely one of the best cons I have ever been to. I felt so comfortable there, like I was surrounded by friends, and I always had something to do. My sister told me she had a blast too, for her first convention/cosplay, so I was happy for her. The skits were fantastic!!! I was rolling on the floor after the "FF8-Gone wrong" skit, and "Mario and Luigi" , although I don't know if they should have won, was really funny. I will most definitely be returning for future conventions.

whoa....where to begin.

It was an aweome con. I'm glad I didn't give into some of the negative things that people said about last years and the con, because I had a ton of fun, more than Anime Boston actually. I liked the small con cause I saw a lot of the same people and it was really easy to get around once I got use to the two buildings. I also had my friend with me too which was cool, cause usually I solo it and just talk to people I recognize.

Laerry you did the art????? that's awesome!!! its in my official badge collection now, but nice job ^_^ did anyone show up to the cosplay.com shoot? I kinda lost internet access after I had to leave the apt and head back to my hometown and get a ride there, >_< ***envies the L'Arc en Ciel CD*** :-P

Spike, I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT BARBECUE WAS YOU! X_x lol Wish i could've gotten a chance to talk to ya man, but you had some damn impressive costumes. I was going to talk to a stormtrooper when I first arrived, thinking it was you...but then I saw another 3 walking around, and was like, OH crap, I'm gonna look like an idiot if I'm walking up to every stormtrooper there.

Nice meeting ya, Patrick D, you were one of the few people I actually recognized :-P See ya at next years anime boston ^_^

Gale, cool talking to you! And your Yuna costume was amazing, so no need to worry bout the details ^_^ I have a picture of you and Lenne on stage, but it came out really really poorly, because i had a disposable camera and was in the back row. I haven't scanned it in with the rest yet, but I'll post it up my gallery in the next coupla days. david ng has some pics though. Yay for Firefly fans!! :)

Dagger, didn't realize that was you in the skit, i know i've seen ya round the boards quite a bit! Awesome job!!! ^___^ Same thing goes to you Mew Pudding, awesomeness!!! I'll see if I have any pics of you in the masquerade, but like I said above, most of my pics from in there came out really bad.

Misc....yeah, I noticed Chewie wasn't his friendly self eihter. I met him awhiel back for a sci-fi con at the Hynnes Convention Center and he had been much more pleasant. Maybe he saw the results from the Connecticon polls on the offical website. >_< lol. Good to hear i didn't miss much in the rave...i had wanted to go, but had a 3 hour drive ahead of us, and after the webcomic panel, me and my friend were pretty tired.

smellme37 ...omg, i so misunderstood you when you pm-d about transport to Otakon >_< I thought you meant to Connecticon. I'm actually taking a bus down to Baltimore, not driving. I didn't even realize you were going to make it to this one. i saw your costume during the day too, and it just never clicked. I feel like an idiot for not coming over and saying hello, besides when I saw you guys outside of the line for the masq.

and thanks to john, who was tube samurai/ninja from penny arcade. Also took on the task of the 3 hour ride...(little longer from getting lost both ways). hope you can to otakon, and start an account dammit.

*exhales*

oh yeah!!!
Michael Coleman and Mike Sinterniklaas were awesome!!! I went to their first panel on Saturday and it was cool. but then they had this one at six and only me, my friend john, and 4 other people showed up because it was kind've hidden away, so we just basically chatted with them for an hour about the most random stuff, it was great. We all knew each other by name by the time that it was 7 :)

*exhales again*

I'm going to make a more organized report in my livejournal later this week,...right now I'm going to upload the pics I scanned earlier tonight, and then head to bed (still working off the 4 hours of sleep I've had since Friday night) X_x

ok...no more, i'm done for now! and i"m so hyper!!! *runs around*

The wing is rods of metal welded together to a base on the shoulder mount. then covered with black vinyl and filled with batting.

Damn, i so want a stormtrooper outfit now, but i bet its lots of money that i don't have @_@

I might do a G.I. Joe outfit too, like I got my eyes on Beachead, Kamakura, and Widescope (with a plushy doggy!) Although I'm leaning toward Kamakura.

LOL! That was a hilarious skit! Thought the trip at the end was a bit uncalled for, but appropriate (must've been rough during the practice).

I'm sorry I didn't get any shots of the skits though as I didn't want to keep standing to take shots and block the people sitting behind me (my fault for not getting there earlier).

*stretches* I was there on Saturday as Arashi from X (with the crappy ass sword hehe). I only regret not being able to stay longer. The game rooms were great. I really wanted to play my friend in Soul Caliber 2, but we had to leave in order to make the Battle Royale showing (which started a half an hour late anyways). I got some pics too, but I didn't use all of the ones on the camera so I might not have them up soon. ^^; Mew_Pudding I think I got you and your friend Zakuro. Awsome awsome costumes. ^_^

Haha, our Rinoa loved falling down. She doesn't really like Rinoa, so she was more than eager to fall on her face and throw a tantrum. Actually, that part was supposed to be a parody of the scene in FF8 when Rinoa runs to Squall, but it's not that obvious.

Thanks, I'm glad you like them. (It's my site.) :)
I was the tall guy sitting next to your mother during the cosplay.

Sorry that some of them are blurry. The camera was in focus, but people kept moving and spinning and running across the stage. That made it difficult and nearly impossible to get good photos. I had to dump off dozens that were even worse...which unfortunately meant that many people who just walked across the stage without stopping aren't in any of the photos I have on the site.

My advice to people entering a masquerade? Walk on stage, walk to the center, turn around completely, face the audience and pose for five seconds for photos, walk off.

Many, MANY people walked on, spun around, and walked off. Arrrgh!

No, you wouldn't have to stay at any hotel, (unless you wanted to), and since you live so close I don't see the point. But as for the three days, all you have to do is pay for a full membership, (either pre-registration or at the convention) and that will cover you for all three days. No one will think you were a loser, we were all new to this at one point. :)

there was definatly more cosplaying this year than last and....what's the sudden obsession in CT with Inu-Yasha? lol! I'm even consitering dressing as Kagome!

Of course, I don't know that even a top quality schoolgirl costume has any chance in the contest so I'm not sure...maybe I'll make two costumes for next year! I still have my fabric for the Lina Inverse costume I was gunna make back in '01 (of course, as you can tell from the fact I never went to a con until '03 that it most definatly didn't happen! lol)

of course, with the con progressivly getting bigger, I may still not have a chance >.< lol...good thing I went for it while the competition was still rather easy...and who knows, I may be asked to make some costumes for my friends now that I'm doing it myself, and not just helping my mom....*shrugs* I've got a year to figure it out....

For some reason or another i haven't noticed the obsession with Inu-yasha until you said something......i wonder why....but your right, their are so many people that cosplay as Inu-Yasha or other people from the show...i guess i won't have a very good chance in a contest dressing up as Inu-yasha
......oh well

Past cons:
AnimeBoston2004
Connecticon2004

Cons i want to go to:
AnimeBoston2005
Connecticon2005

gah...I've been wracking my brain for ideas on how to make a Kagome costume worthy of a prize...but I'm comming up with nothing...If I can go multiple days I might make it though (complete with a yellow backpack!) and just not wear it to the contest...but then...what do I do at the contest? >.< I can't think of anything....I'd do Summoner Yuna...but I just dressed as Yuna (songstress) this year...and similarly I don't want to do Miaka's prestess outfit. I'd rather do something from an anime too, but I don't want to buy another wig so soon. Then again, if I am to buy another wig I need to do it now while they're in stock for Halloween. And speaking of Halloween, what's gunna be my costume for that? hmm...I can always wear my marian dress or something else from the play last year...too bad my hair isn't long anymore....

I know I`ll be there next year. ^.^ I`m making a bunch of costume`s for next year, so I`m not sure what one I`ll be wearing. ^.^ (Aska from Magic Knight Rayearth, Primera from Magic Knight Rayearth, Juri Arisugawa from Utena, Nanami Kiryuu from Utena and Hanon Hossho Henshin from Pichi Pichi Pitch.) I`m going to try and win another award. *giggle* But, it`s not likely, I was really lucky there were no other Anime juniors. XD; I`m not sure how to make those costume`s worthy of prize winning. o.o; Primera maybe...*plots deviously*

yah, I feel the same as you! I honestly don't know how I managed to get the prize I did...but my only guess is it was my obsessive attention to detail! In any case, I think I decided on what to make for next year! Lena Inverse. I was gunna dress as her for Otakon when I was planning on going in '01 or '02, but those plans didn't work out, so I'm gunna see what I can do with the fabric I bought back then. I'll probably go looking for a wig too, but I don't know 'cause my mom probably will only let me get one wig in the near future (until I have a job and can pay for my costume supplies myself  ) and I'm planning on getting a Yuna one so I can use my songstress costume after I grow my hair out.
