I want to cosplay Tali'Zorah from mass effect for supercon next summer, the thing that really bothers me is the purple swirl patterns on certain parts of her costume. Does anyone know if I could buy this fabric online? I was thinking of designing it and then uploading to spoonflower, and I've read of some people just sharpie-ing the swirls onto the fabric, if so, what kind of fabric should I use that would look nice for this costume?

Spoon flower is the way to go. You can make it accurate and it'll last.

If you're looking for cost efficiency, batavian batik (http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=5144ebc1-1609-4819-ae50-af070f78231e&CategoryID=045cdef6-3ab2-4e4a-8ab0-c59e0bb7535b) are fairly close, however inaccurate.

hate to thread jack..but what about just the rest of Tali's suit? What fabric would be best for that?

I've not started on mine, but I'm planning on using something like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-PVC-Wet-Look-Fetish-Metallic-Bodysuit-Catsuit-Holiday-Costume-S-3XL-/120898081292?pt=US_Costumes&var=&hash=item1c2616520c#ht_2572wt_1271)for my base, and then sewing the details over that.
