View Full Version : Classic Vampire Steampunked?

Hello! I'm going to an event 'steampunked' out soon, as I term it, and I found myself facing a dilemna. I want to create a sort of persona for my look, and the thing I immediately wanted to do was a classic style vampire. dramatic and bold, creepy and severe. Something Dracula-chic. I'd prefer the look to be female, but I am open to crossdressing if the look would work better that way.

I was thinking originally that I'd use my real hair ( long to my lower back black, with a widow's peak fringe) and have a neck cuff..Not sure what they're called, but they're those high collar that fasten at the base of the neck, and don't connect to the rest of the garment..I've seen several Steampunk looks use them. It wouldn't be ridiculously tall, and I wanted a bustly and dramatic skirt, perhaps with a train coming off the back.

Would this be too costumey and Halloweeny? don't want to be overly dramatic in my execution.
Also..What might a character like this carry..? I really did want to have lots of accessories, maybe tools, but am having such a hard time thinking of any.

Thanks for the help : D

A lot of Vampires are placed in Victorian clothing in certain stories.

I think this kind of dress could work.

Or something similar to this.

Or this.

Or that maybe.

These are nice looks, and I think they could easily translate to vampire. I think a good idea is to stay away from cliche "black and red" color scheme. It's very common in Halloween costumes. Maybe even stay away from black entirely and go for a different color scheme?

I'm just shooting in the dark... it's hard to guess what you might want for your style so I'm just throwing out ideas.

I like the second dress SpazItUp linked. It's very indicative of the Victorian era, though black was usually used only for mourning. The Victorians used a lot of color. I would do something in grays or blues, and if you wanted black, you could accent it with black lace. Go to trulyvictorian.com and look around at their patterns for some ideas. Or Goggle Victorian fashion plates. You can see that understated was not a word in their vocabulary.

As for accessories, I think it would be cool to wear a necklace that has a small vial of "blood" hanging from it. Wear jewelry that might indicate fangs or something, just little nuances here and there for an overall effect. Sometimes less is more.
