I'm sure this thread occured at some point or another, but has anyone done costumes based on any of the characters created by Anne Rice?

Currently I'm working on several costumes for a large Vampire Lestat group.

(I hate fur and red velvet, just so everyone knows).

I consider my Shiroi Yu~ki (Malice Mizer) a double for a Lestat costume... mwahaha... Lestat is my lil biotch.

I've been considering doing Louis for Las Vegas Comic-con this year, but I have several other ideas floating around my head. It's about a 1 in 3 chance right now XD. Of course, it's been a while since I've seen the movie, so I'd have to watch it again and decide which outfit of his is both appealing and feasible.

I would love to make an Anne Rice type costume... But somehow my glue-gunning skills are not quite good enough to pull it off. =P

Mmmm.... if you don't like fur and red velvet (which is so TVL, and not the other books) you could always do the frock coat with cameo buttons that Lestat wears in Blackwood Farm and Blood & Gold. I believe that one was blue. I may be wrong.

I've seen a couple of Akasha's (based on the QOTD movie) floating on these boards before that were quite well done.

.... if anyone wants to do Armand, unless you can pull of being an immoratal with the face of an 18yr old and red hair, don't do it!

Ah, well I was saying how I hated velvet and fur because I made his cloak from TVL. That's why I hate those materials! Lol. I haven't read the Blackwood Farm or Blood & Gold yet unfortunately, hense I never knew about that frock coat. Our group is mostly centered around Interview and TVL.

I've considered cosplaying Armand since I'll have red hair for a bit but I totally won't have a costume for it in time. ^^; I guess if I dye my hair red again for Halloween I might cosplay him unless I've cut my hair then. I guess I could always try to get a red wig though. ^^; But thats not as fun.

And yes, I'm 18 and rather small so really, he's the only vampire I could probably pull off. And as I just finished reading his book recently, he's quickly become one of my favorite vampires.

I guess I could always do a ghetto costume with the stuff I have in my closet during the time that I do have red hair. ^^; Plus, not exactly sure what outfit I would go with for him. (Ugh, definently not the Antonio Banderas version of Armand though. He was NOT Armand. x_x )

Anne Rice cosplay did cross my mind at some point, considering I just love Akasha (*-*;) but I'm rather afraid of that if only for her response to fanfiction. ^_^ That woman is insanely possessive of her characters. Could you see a reaction to something like that?

Still, to each their own, and if anyone has Anne Rice cosplay pictures, I'd love to see!

I can totally understand her being possessive of her characters. They are her creations after all. And it makes matters more sensitive that Lestat was based upon her late husband, Stan.

And although she denies it, Claudia (the immortal child) was likely based upon her own blond-haired angel who died of leukemia at age 5.

Her characters are highly personal to her, as is her writing. She hasn't had an editor for years now because she wants her manuscripts to be "untouched." As a result she's sometimes quite repetative.

Wow, I'm liking this thread... I didn't know any of this stuff beyond Claudia being her dead child. It's understandable she is possessive then... I knew Stan had died but he must have been interesting if Lestat was based on him. ^^

Ditto on the repetitiveness... I've read most of the vampire series aside from about 3-4 of the newest ones and I just started getting tired of the same situations and reactions... oh look, Lestat is overwhelmed again,... Louis is whining again... ^^;;...Marius is being cold and stoic... Armand is being pissy.... etc etc ;p Still a great read though.

I really been wanting to make an Akasha costume...people have been telling me that I should. I think that I may in the future...I just hope that there wouldnt be a negative response b/c of what Trinity said about Anne Rice being really posessive of her characters.

Oh man you guys are awesome! I want to do an Anne Rice cosplay but I dont know who to choose from! I think I would do someone from her Mayfair series all though I have greatly considered a Claudia or Pandora costume.

It's sad that she won't be writing anymore lestat books...or atleast that's what she is saying for now. :waaaah: We will see what the future brings...

i love her books.. my favorite being the claiming of sleeping beauty (yes i know its dirty).

I've read EVERYTHING she's ever published (Vamps, Witches, the stuff under her pseudonyms... and the porn...) I give her a lot of credit for writing what she feels and thinks and not taking shit from the critics.

One of my favorites is Cry to Heaven because it's both an interesting story and it's well researched.

I'm not sure I'd ever cosplay as one of her characters. They're not exactly the most easily recognized since they exist only in the imagination (well, apart from the 2 movies. IWTV was gorgeous. QotD was garbage.)

well your not supossed to cosplay as some one well known... i dont think thats the reason why people should do costumes... you do it cause you like the character... and if someone notices it or asks you if your from that book then great you made a new friend!

i like taking descriptions authors make aobut outfits and making the costume. iv talked to my fav author joan d. vinge. and shes loves the idea... so im making some costumes from my fav books lol. im a bit obsessed over her....

and my orginal costume ( 3 to count) are all from books that i wrote!

blagh anyway! if you feel like making the costume do it! dont worry about no one noticing you...

Me and my friend did a quick Louis and Lestat when we went to Anne Rice's Ball a few years back, but besides that..not anything officially. I have everything for Louie. Guess I should take pictures. >_> Or even Lestat. They're all pretty easy....

I want to do Amadeo. Book version. Looks of yaoi.

*gets bad memories of "The Vampire Armand"* Man... that was a freaking porno novel. o.o Armand is everyone's lil' skank. ^^;;;;; He's so extreme in his thinking that he's utterly amusing... If I saw a good Marius with a cloak of red velvet and the shoulder length straight platinum blonde hair, I'd just die right there. *_*

i absolutely love lestat, but his typical outfit seems a bit hmmm, i dont know not special enough, of course if you are doing iwv, then you would want as close to that as possible, i think a good mona, Lasher, or Lestat in one of his other outfits (didnt he have a deep purple at some point, geez i dunno its been so long since ive read the first books) but as for not liking red velvet, id definately go with the deep blue

I did an Armand costume. My Version of him. Velvet coat, breeches, hight boots, crop, frilly shirt. :D Being 17, Red haired & female helped too. Except the hips, can't hide those. XD

Eh, my little attempt to look Armand-ish. ^^;; Not exactly a costume or anything. Just a sudden idea that popped into my head after dying my hair red.

Oohh Lestat. Someday, when I am good and ready, when my sewing and craft skills are at their peak, when my curly hair is grown out and blonde... my dream of cosplaying Lestat will become a reality.

=3

Just can't say much more than that. But "GO VC COSPLAYERS!" =D

^_^! I would -so- do an Armand cosplay, he's my favorite...But I suppose a Lestat costume would be nothing but fun as well, he's such a badass and all, being in character would be so much fun. Maybe I'll be able to pull this for Halloween, I've got some friends who are Rice fans...^^; We could do a group.
