With the announcement of AC III and the debut trailer I figured some people are excited to make a Connor Kenway (Ratohnhaké:ton) cosplay! It's much different than previous assassin outfits since it takes place during the American Revolution. If you're just starting out please read through the Assassin's Creed Series main discussion thread (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=131330), trust me A LOT of your questions will be answered. Enough jib jab onto what you came here for!

NOTE: These are just suggestions/references! There are many ways to approach this. My intention is to keep this historically accurate so it'll look authentic. I'm just sharing my gatherings! :)

Feel free to post your findings, research, and deductions too!

BEFORE YOU POST: If you want to post your progress, ask for critiques, and/or ask for advice please go to the Assassin's Creed Series discussion thread (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=131330). There's a bunch of fantastic talented people over there too, so please ask them! This thread is intended for resources...

CONTINENTAL UNIFORM ELEMENTS

REGIMENTAL COAT
A nice overview of a regimental coat:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BR8PuwYXMOU
The comment below "incorrect material. but nice." bothers me because all info I've found elsewhere says otherwise. Wool is the correct material, and it can be lined with linen entirely or with a combo of wool and linen.

For the regimental coat I saw some suiting wool at Joann's the other day, which could work, but it was like $27/yrd. Time to find another store again… maybe with a 50/40% off coupon it's more affordable… Actually amazon.com has better prices (http://www.amazon.com/Wide-Boucle-Wool-Suiting-Fabric/dp/B006T6V1IY)! Only thing is you can't see it in person. :/ Be aware of the weight (oz.) you're buying!

In some of the higher res images of the in game render the coat texture appears to be a heavy cotton or linen. (LIKE HERE) (http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/970/tumblrm54b7eut1c1rxe6gu.png) A heavy linen/cotton would save you from dying from heat stroke in the summer, but wool is still the right material to use.

The coat WAS originally white. It's been revenged by the elements and constant wear. You can weather the fabric before hand or if you want to keep it clean, go with an off white or ivory color.

DYING WOOL- It is possible! If you find some cheap white or off-white wool fabric, but don't want to/can't find a blue wool RIT dye can dye wool! A little more info here http://www.ritdye.com/dyeing-techniques/tips-success I suggest doing more research if you are considering it. I'm new to dying fabric so I really can't help much in this area.

LINING COLOR: Indigo [source] (http://indigo1745.com/about/aboutus.html) The entire coat is lined, even the hood.

SLEEVES:
Option 1. The sleeves are attached to the coat. That means you'll be sewing through A LOT of layers. Do your sewing machine a favor and get some heavy duty/leather/upholstery needles! A shirt should be worn since if you take off the coat your arms will be exposed.

Option 2. The sleeves aren't attached to the coat. The waistcoat should then have sleeves so they come through the coat arm wholes. This is much more like previous assassin costume designs. EDIT: You should wear a shirt, even a regualar T-shirt would be okay as suggested by alpha_helix on pg3 (http://www.cosplay.com/showpost.php?p=4397235&postcount=39)! After wearing my ACII coslpay for a weekend my shirt really help cut down the heat considering I was wearing poly-cotton blends for the tunics. lol

There are "pockets" hiding under all of his gear. The real pockets would be on the inside, see coat overview video above.

WAISTCOAT (VEST)
It's white compared to the regimental coat. I'm at a loss for what the lines running through the waistcoat to the buttons are called... I will edit this when I find out what they're called! This is also lined with most likely linen/cotton. The collar doesn't fold over like a dress shirt, it stands straight up.

LINING COLOR: In game the lining is blue. In the promo art and trailers it is white. Thank you zerohour13 for pointing out the in game lining!

BUTTONS
The regiemental coat has ~54 buttons total. The waistcoat has 7-8 buttons. Please count these yourself too, there's A LOT! An antique brass, copper or gold would match in game. Pewter and antique sliver would match the promo art. The buttons for the regimental coat and waistcoat are different. (See here.) (http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8712/aciiibuttonsnecklace134.png)

BREECHES (PANTS)
The breeches look like denim, but they could also be linen or wool. Breeches were most commonly made of linen for summer and wool for winter, to let out heat and to keep in heat respectively. They can also vary in length from to the ankle, to the calf, or to below the knee. If not full length it's necessary to wear stockings (http://tinyurl.com/d7nad7o
).

COLOR: Blue in the promo art. Grey in-game.

In the promo art there is a seam running up the center of the leg.

A bit cut and dry, but they generally have the same info!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NATIVE AMERICAN ELEMENTS
LEATHER
For the leather parts they can be buckskin (deer skin), or cow hide (sueded). Some Economy Sueded Cowhide Splits from Tandy Leather Factory (http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/searchresults/9827-02.aspx) could do well. :) The reverse side of upholstery leather could also do well since it's already dyed. **There also nubuck leather! (Thank you tricc for pming this!)

If you can't find the right color, please don't dye suede yourself! Dying raw suede is a mess and it continuously rubs off on your clothing/other surfaces even if it was "sealed". I also asked a Tandy Leather employee and she said don't dye suede yourself, it's not a good idea. Suede leather tends to be chrome-tanned for longer lasting color and pliability.

Alternative to Leather
If there is no way you can get leather or do not have a leather store near you, there are fabric imitators that you can use. What you want is a similar texture. There's microsuede fabric (http://tinyurl.com/cox8n6o), which comes in a variety of textures and colors. I bought some of this for my Ezio AC II cape and it's very fluid like silk. This will definitely need interfacing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interfacing) to make it thicker so it has more body and weight so it doesn't fall.

There is also vinyl fabric and artificial leather. Not the super shiny rock star stuff, but the fabric with faux leather texture. This is typically NOT sueded, so this could do well for the vambraces, belts, and quiver. Check out animefreakkai's vinyl and craftfoam tutorial (http://kayleeweinberg.com/cosplay-101-the-tricks-around-vinyl/), lots of great tips how to work with it and how to choose what's right for you!

Leather Piping/Details (regimental coat): IT'S EVERYWHERE; on the front edges of the collar, running up the arm seams, around the elbow patches, seams of the coat's back, running around the blue "sash" part of the coat in the back, and running up the "splits" in the coat tails. Note that the leather piping/detailing is mostly accurate to in-game only, not the promotional art. There is still leather detailing on the back and running up the sleeves in the the promo art/trailers.

NATIVE AMERICAN ELEMENTS (CONT.)
NECKLACE
It varies from being 1-3 claws. In game it is 3 claws and in the promo art and trailers it's 1 claw. There are beads on his necklace! (REF HERE) (http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/4021/assassinscreed3wallpape.png) I don't know how much a real claw would cost, but sculpting and casting them could be one way, or making some from wood could be another option. This can be either bear claws OR eagle claws! Eagle would be more fitting, but bear claws were most common. :)

ASSASSIN ELEMENTS
SASH
Colors alternate between RED and BLUE. In the very first trailer and some early screenshots, his sash is blue. In more recent pictures and screenshots his sash is red. This is unconfirmed but his sash color may change when he "changes" sides, but his allegiance is still with the assassins. An assassin doesn't solely choose one side; he's fighting against the Templars, which are on BOTH sides. I suggest making the sash replaceable/easy to switch out so you can have both red and blue. Going with one color is fine too!

As for the length of the sash tail, it's about one knee cap length above the knee. I can't give an exact measurement because everyone is a different height!

BELT/INSIGNIA
As for the belt that goes over the sash, make it adjustable in the back so it doesn't slip down. If casting this be sure to reinforce the insignia with some metal or other material (plastic/PVC) so it won't wishbone when stress is applied to it from either side. You can also make the insignia parts (belt and vambrace) from expanded PVC (a.k.a sintra) if you don't want to cast it. There's also wonderflex (http://www.cosplaysupplies.com/tutorials.php?id=Wonderflex_Basics)! I'm not yet familiar with wonderflex, but I've heard many good things about it.

NOTE: If using wood/fragile materials reinforce it! I've seen a few pics of broken AC II wood insignias (and some resin and polymer ones...) because they weren't reinforced. :<

HIDDEN BLADE
There are two! (See here.) (http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/3192/aciiihiddenbaldeconfirm.jpg) It's currently unconfirmed if it is detachable or just rotates.

Under Bracer Color: It varies from being leather, to cloth (color of the coat), and grey. I have yet to work this out to fully understand what's going on with the under bracer!

CAPTAIN CONNOR VARIATION

I don't know about you guys, but I saw this and thought it was awesome. Much of the information above for the coat, armbands, etc. applies to this as well. Since there has been little footage and screenshots of Captain Connor, I don't have much to offer beside a few things.

AC III PATTERNS
*NOTE: If you want to enter convention/costume craftsmanship contests, as I understand it you would have to tell the judges how you made it, and/or what help you may have had. Using someone else's pattern may deduct points or disqualify you. If someone else would like to elaborate on this please do; I'm somewhat unsure how it works!*

Footwear:
I'd recommend lining the shoes somehow since sueded material takes in more moisture than sealed or pleather materials. Step in a puddle? Wet soggy feet for rest of the day! D; No one wants that! Once lined you can run in snow and not worry about getting hypothermia from your wet leggings!

If you guys want to go...truly authentic....which I am...

You may also want to check out patterns of time, because they have several patterns that will be useful:

Keltoi Moc Pattern (http://www.patternsoftime.com/proddetail.asp?prod=YT007)

I have gathered most if not all of these patterns and plan on making my Connor outfit....he actually pushed out the Smuggler for me, because I was confused about some things in her outfit and would like to make a historically actuate as possible.

I will be doing the same for Connor

I also wanted to add to the discussion on fabric, re: breeches, you can use linen, medium weight broadcloth or cotton duck (the denim look?) or light weight canvas .

Now I'm in search of cheap wool...if that is even possible...

Hey there Assassins!

I'm new here on Cosplay.com, but this is Gabe Graziani, Senior Community Developer at Ubisoft assigned to Assassin's Creed and I just very quickly want to extend my most sincerest thanks to vonviolet for putting this guide together... it is the most comprehensive I've seen!

I'd also like to post a link to it on our Facebook Event page for our upcoming PAX East Cosplay Contest if that is cool... here's a link for any of you who might be attending. We would love it if any of you could participate!

UbiGabe- Oh, wow thank you so much for the honor I'm truly flattered! I hopefully only kick started the AC III Connor resource, so others can and contribute as well! :) Thank you so much for adding the thread link to the facebook page too! I also posted your link in the main discusion thread! ;)

I wish I could go to PAX, I'm even in New England like a few hours drive away, but that's the weekend before my portfolio is due amongst other college work, so I can't make it. :c I don't even have my AC II cosplay done anyway; I just started leather working today. lol To anyone whose going- there's going to be some AC III exclusive gameplay (or so I've read)!

UPADATE:
I added a TV trailer, new image file, and an article section! I'll be adding more about the alternative to leather soon! I'll try to include less costly options since people do have different ideas and budgets about what makes a decent cosplay~

Great find Fev! :D I think I watched it about 10 times or more! ^^; Pure awesome!

Despite it being in Spanish I could actually read most of it. X'D Guess my high school Spanish classes weren't for nothing! Just out of curiosity, I searched for other versions and found an English one (for those of us who can't read Spanish well): Assassins Creed 3 Connor Teaser Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Mq-YpAuLe4)

The vid has some nice shots of Connor's cloth bracer and vambrace. I think, but I'm not 100% sure, the cloth part is removable so he can put on another vambrace. Other opinions?

Hello!
I never made a costume before, but I decided to start my first costume project, and it's defenitely going to be Connor.

The thing is, that I got a problem with that coat and the sleeves... I simply don't get it, it looks like the sleeves of the regimental coat are cut off and Connor has a long sleeved something under the coat (so the coat is sleeveless). Plus he has this layer that goes from his chest over his shoulders to the back.
What the heck is this? Is it the collar, that was some kind of wrapped back? I dunno, is it even part of the Coat?

I hope my question isn't too stupid, I would appreciate any help!

If you are attempting to go as period/historical as possible (with modifications of course, cause you know...Assassin!)...I've run across this website for

Hey there! Your questions aren't stupid at all! I also initially thought the same things when I first looked at his coat.

What you're thinking is actually quite possible. Instead of wearing a vest like waistcoat (sleeveless), he could be wearing a sleeved waistcoat. That means both the regimental coat and waistcoat fabric materials and color would have to match. As for how the sleeves would connect to the regimental coat I'll try to illustrate it as best as I can:
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/724/connorsleeveexplination.th.jpg (http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/724/connorsleeveexplination.jpg)

Here a small illustration for the "shoulder collar":
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/5884/shouldercollar.th.jpg (http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/5884/shouldercollar.jpg)

I left the explanations pretty general because there's quite a bit of problem solving to do when actually making this. Many Assassin's Creed costumes are notorious for looking simple but are very complex in construction. It'd also help if you make a small paper version of one of Trujin's patterns. He pretty much got the design spot on! ;) I approached the shoulder collar differently than he did, but both could work and I'm sure there are several other possibilities how to make it!

@32spartan11 + athompson- You're very welcome! :3 Glad I could help.

@Spin360

Me and a couple friends are making the pattern together (we're all doing the same costume so we were like, yay! collab). In our prototype, we elected to have the regimental coat sleeveless and the waistcoat sleeved as kind of a tip-of-the-hat to Ezio's layers. So the shoulder of the regimental coat has the brown edged "sailor bib" and a blue "flange" thing under it (almost like a doublet). The waistcoat (funky colonial weird pleat shirt button land) has the sleeves. I think weathering of the sleeves (versus the waistcoat's front which would be semi-protected on the inside) accounts for the slight color variation. By doing the "vest" regimental coat method, a shadow is produced between the sleeve and the blue flange that is seen on game footage.

Honestly, it's all video game magic. I mean the belt is buttoned to the coat lol. Do it whichever way you're more comfortable with.

Hey everyone, long time no see. I told myself after making Ezio that I wouldn't do anymore costumes, but Connor just tempted me too much. I've been rushing to get it done in time for ACen this weekend, and here's what I've got so far. Sorry about the quality, I'll have better pics up after the weekend.

Also, there was one problem I ran into that I'd like to share, in case anyone else runs into the same problem. When the gun belt was attached to Connors coat, since it only attaches by the buttons on the coat, it would pull the coat outwards and back. I was able to solve this by going out and buying two sets of those magnet purse snaps. I attached two to the belt, and two to the inside of the coat, which allows me to easily detach them when I want the coat to flow out, but keep the coat nice and lined up straight the rest of the time. Hope this will help you guys.

I bought them at Michaels, but any kind of craft store should have them. The good thing about them is they're easy to take apart by hand, but the combination of being a button snap and a magnet in one makes it extremely reliable.

Just typing my thoughts down... for proportioning props let's assume for all intents and purpose that Connor is 6ft (183cm) tall as was Ezio. ;) You can proportion the props to yourself or keep them proportioned to Connor. I'm still a total noob with props, so PLEASE don't ask me for advice.

I think this one is around 21" long, and after further research (and a friend with Native American ancestors, who poked at it and gave me some info on dimensions for making a functional tomahawk), I found that it would be a good idea to lop off about 5" from the end of the handle. Around 16 1/2-17 1/2" would be a good overall length :)

Seriously Fev. you're starting the new blade already?! It's gonna be the tomahawk all over again. XD

So the site downtown prevented me from posting anything from what I got finished of my Connor and premiered at ACen two weeks ago. There're a few things still missing like the front sash, arm bands and detailing for the quiver and other areas, but for the most part it's done. I've uploaded a lot of pictures of it from the con here, you can check it out so I don't spam this thread with a ton of pics. But here's a few I feel are worth sharing:

What I wrote (several times):

Ok, I've been working hard on my costume, and made some progress.
I got some leather and started with the gauntlet, as I thought, it might be the most difficult part due to material and production. Well, I couldn't finish it completely yet, but as I was working with leather I thought "Hey, I'm gonna make the belt too!". And I did it.
The End.

You can see it in my gallery (http://www.cosplay.com/gallery/229126/), you can even look at it, till your eyes fall off, I, however, don't recommend that. Don't try it at home. Do it in public.

Oh wow. I love Connor's design, and while I don't have any intentions of making this costume yet (though, I feel like a friend of mine may want my sewing help..he loves Connor and the concept as AC3 even more than me), I love this thread, and I love, love how the OP is keeping historical accuracy in mine (well, as much as one can). Haven't read through all these posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating any info!

1. Do absolutely make a shirt to wear underneath. Yes, a white tee is better than nothing, but most knits can't wick away sweat and heat like a good woven fabric. They wore many layers and lots of wool, back in the day, even in the summer, and they had no AC. Yet, they did not piss and moan, at least not more than we do! Basically, a plant fiber layer close to your skin pulls the moisture away from you--plant cells have evolved to do this. Linen is best, bust cheap ass muslin in fine if you're on a tight budget. The idea is something made with natural fibers that you can throw in the washing machine--it'll protect your outer layers from your BO so care will be easier. here's (http://marquise.de/en/1700/howto/maenner/18hemd.shtml) instructions for an easy to sew (though the math is tricky) and very period correct 18th c men's shirt

2. fabrics-store.com is probably the best place to go for linen. I've bought a lot of linen from a lot of places, and this is the best bang for your buck. Keep an eye on the sales, and, sometimes you might be luck enough to get a card with a coupon code tucked in with your order invoice...Nice!

3. Wool will always be cooler than synthetics. If you can't afford wool, try to make a cotton or linen work. A costume like this requires layers, You will MELT if any of these layers are polyester!

4. Still think wool's out of your budget? Don't give up yet! If ordering online is your only economical option, get the minimum order first. Admittedly yes, 20$/yd is a decent price for wool, and the absolute best you can hope for is usually 10$/yd, but personally, I feel the cost is worth it. Wool does things other fibers cannot, and I firmly believe there is no substitute. Of course, it's your call. Before giving up on wool, I recommend getting in touch with your local International Costuming Guild branch and asking if anyone has any leftover wool in their stash (at least at NoEL we had lots of people wanted to get rid of stash!), in which case they'll probably sell for cheap, or ask if there's a mill nearby where you can get "mill ends" for stupidly cheap.

Here are my armbands for Connor. In order to get the offset rows I decided to go with a standard multi kandi pattern because all the traditional beading patterns seem to give straight rows. I used 7mm plastic pony beads and stretch magic elastic cord. They came out slightly wider than I was hoping (but I don't really want to redo them so I'll live with it) so learn from my experience and use 5mm or smaller beads. I'll be applying them to a cloth backing once I get sleeve circumference down for my coat.

New to this thread but not to this character, been researching for a bit and starting work on Conner with the help of a historian-costumer (check out her blog http://pennsburymanor.wordpress.com/) doing the coat.

Thought I'd go ahead and offer up some answers/help before digging into questions of my own.

Here's what I got on the armbands, basic pattern courtesy of Trujin via the pattern posted in this thread.

THE ARMBAND (http://zerohero13.deviantart.com/#/d53eqr7)

(WARNING: MATH INCOMING)

I've worked out that the band probably uses 01/0 size Czech seed beads measuring 6-6.5 mm in diameter and 5mm tall. With the pattern given, 8 beads tall, this means the beads are 40mm tall. plus another 5mm blue border on each side the armband is 50mm (5cm) or approx. 2" tall. Given the scaling of the bow being approx. 2" thick and the scale of his arm seems about right. Now, with a pattern repetition of four shown in the picture with 3 lines repeating when the pattern comes back around.

Note: 02/0 and 03/0 would probably work and there is a size difference between czech and japanese seed beads. Anyway, fool around with it and it ought to work.

The beads are offset--you can clearly see this in multiple pics. The stitch is a Gourd (Peyote) stitch illustrated.

Also, the stitch that secures the beads to the blue cloth will clean up that sawtooth-like gap in the off-set bead pattern--use white thread and it should look like a clean straight edge.

Now a few bits I'd love some help from if people have ideas:

the hidden blade--it kinda looks like the detacheable knife is on the outside layer, does anyone have descent pics or a schematic of construction?

Have we figured out if the back trim is leather or blue?

any word on the claw count of the necklace?

anyone got a good hood pattern?

Anyone tracked down the proper buttons? I've got a few close ones but no cigar.

That's all for now. Comments, Suggestions, funny anecdotes?

Opacus02
06-14-2012, 08:44 PM
One problem with your pattern. It's missing a row. Where the blue goes down to one bead, it has two rows, not one. Check my pattern and you'll see what I did.

the hidden blade--it kinda looks like the detacheable knife is on the outside layer, does anyone have descent pics or a schematic of construction?

Not confirmed if it's detachable, as far as I know. I personally believe it just rotates.

any word on the claw count of the necklace?

Ahhh, gotcha, thanks--looked back at my ref pics--I blame the math. I've updated the link:

http://zerohero13.deviantart.com/art/Conner-s-Armband-308057587

EDIT:

I've worked out that the band probably uses 03/0 size Japanese (Toho) seed beads measuring 5.5 mm in diameter and about 3.9mm tall. With the pattern given, 8 beads tall, this means the bead portion is 30-ish mm tall. plus another 5mm blue border on each side the armband is 40-ish mm (4cm). Given the scaling of the bow being approx. 2" thick and the scale of his arm seems about right. The pattern repeats 4 times that I can see.

Note: There is a size difference between czech and japanese seed beads--find out the MM SIZES. Anyway, fool around with it and it ought to work.

Also: Good to know we have a final count on the claws-it's been going back and forth between 1 and 3 for a while. Hope they don't change much else...at least majorly.

As far as the blade, even if it only swivels-it looks to be on the outside instead of the inside like past hidden blades, I'm not sure because there aren't any good straight shots of the entire underside. I'm leaving that for end of summer with hopes that more pics and what-not will surface.

zerohero13

Okay--so--Addendum to my previous armband arithmetic because E3 brought out a variety of changes contrasting pictures thus-far released. Here's what I've found that changed:

(click the titles for images)

ARMBAND: (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g151/ripken_photos/armband_change.jpg)

The new armband has more repetition (6-7) and may be a bit thinner. I still think my stitching techniques work for it but as for the pattern and to make sure everything adds up with the size of beads I will work on an updated pattern sheet.

THE BUTTONS: (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g151/ripken_photos/button.jpg)

The buttons have changed completely. They went from a silver uniform double circle to a bronze filigree pattern slightly smaller in size.

THE TRIM: (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g151/ripken_photos/trim.jpg)

Greater confirmation of what some have already thought--the hood is lined with blue as is the waistcoat-the back trim however is leather lined.

THE VAMBRACE: (http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g151/ripken_photos/hidden.jpg)

It's confirmed that, as seen in some previous photos as well, that the middle piece in the vambrace is grey. Also, the pic has some larger depictions of the hiddenblade...I honestly still haven't decided if it's detachable or swivel.

Anyway, hope this all helps, please add if you've seen even more changes and I'll get on a new armband sheet.

If you look for Kentucky or French Flintlocks that should give you a general idea. They're actually not that short, the 360 vid is a bit deceiving because of the angle that they're at. Based on other shots I've seen they're almost as long as Connor's tomahawk. Interesting note though, on the Game Informer cover the pistol he's carrying has the hammer reversed. The hammer was generally on the right side of the pistol, not the left. The only reason I could see for this is it's a custom matched pair designed to be cross drawn so the left side hammer doesn't get caught when drawn from the right side and vice versa for the other pistol. I haven't seen any evidence of the left side hammer in any other sources though, and the 360 vid appears to have normal right sided hammers.

Also, it seems Connor is a lot more ambidextrous than previous assassins. His bow and quiver setup imply he's left hand dominant and is consistent with Boston in-game footage from E3, yet the E3 trailer has him clearly shooting right handed instead. Also his hidden blade on the left is consistent with Ezio and Altair who kept their right hand free for weapons which implies a right hand dominance. Yet Connor uses his hidden blade to skin animals so clearly he uses both equally well. I could be reading more into this than I need to, but I have a feeling I'm gonna have to be practicing a lot of left AND right hand bow draws and unlike Connor, I am not ambidextrous.

I'm very excited to see that this thread has carried on without me! :D There's tons of great info and pics here! Thank you for making not only my time for creating this thread worth while but for others as well! :)

Now for UPDATES. New/added information has the *NEW* next to it, so it's a little more obvious to spot. I had to split the posts because there's a 100,000 character limit. Keeps me from being a windbag I guess. lol I also added an Assassin Elements and Captain Connor Variation section! I also updated the trailers and reference image sections with more stuff.

Connor just jumped on my cosplay list! I got the hood patterned out, will post pics! At least it didn't take 22 tires like my ACII hood. lol I have a sea of mini-hoods thanks to getting the idea from fev's ACR hood progress (http://www.fevereon.com/costuming/ezio_acr/hood.php)!

I have heard about Aveline! I can only say I'm way too excited to see that we finally have a black female assassin to play as! I have reference for her, but she should really get her own thread. :) PM me if you want it!

I'm very new to cosplay, (well, trying to make it, but I have seen so much from being a gamer). But I wanted to thank you for making this, I am going to howl-o-scream for a friends b-day and I wanted to make this because he loves assassin's creed and plus i think Connor is a boss. But I wanted to ask if anyone had found the bracer design yet? Because I think I have a little idea of what to do, but i was just wondering if anyone else found a blueprint yet.

I'd like to make a cosplay of an Assassin from Assassin's Creed 3, that is NOT Connor. You know, the standard Assassins that are out there, recruits, other Assassins, etc, the standard uniform...
Does anyone have a picture of them?
I'd appreciate any help!

In the recent Boston gameplay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNgh5WiMbBM) we get a glimpse of the assassin recruits; however they are dressed as redcoats (http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1687/aciiirecruits2310ja.png) to sneak through the choke point. As for a recruit with an assassin hood, we don't know yet!

One this thread is amazing! It's so much help, thanks!

Anyway, has anyone found any look-a-like buttons for this cosplay? I'm really a perfectionist and I like to concentrate on details a lot. It would help if they shipped to england or were in england.

I searched for a good 4-5 hours just looking for the perfect buttons for Connor, but I came up with nada. :< The buttons, like fev said, would have to uniquly sculped and cast to match the ref.

I took a new screenshot of the buttons here. (http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8712/aciiibuttonsnecklace134.png) Looks like the regimental coat and waistcoat buttons are different after all! *goes to update info* edit: Recounted the buttons! The cuffs threw me off a few. XP ~50 for the regimental coat, and 7-8 on the waistcoat. EDIT: There's 52 buttons, after ANOTHER recount!

So the right hand hidden blade is actually hidden?! What blasphemy is this? No telltale bracer advertising "Hidden Blade Here" :P

lol Looks can be deceiving! It's awesome we still have 2 hidden blades. The other blade may not rotate like the one on his left. It would be like how ACR Ezio had a specialized balde (hook blade) and a regular hidden blade.

You're welcome! :3 Glad this can be of use!
As for a vambrace pattern I found one but it turned out to be inaccurate. :/ Spin360 got it pretty spot on, he posted to pg3 here (http://www.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=280387&page=3)! :3 Check out his gallery to get an idea of the construction~ If you look at the ref of the collector's statue you can see the curves of the bracers. Comb through the ref, you'll find some good images I'm sure! :)

EDIT: Added mediafire mirrors for all of image reference! :D I didn't know you needed a 4shared account to download stuff now. I've been perpetually logged in so I wasn't aware it happened. Just PM me if a link breaks! :) I'll be on it ASAP!

My uncle is very active in revolutionary war reenactments, and they have a "blacksmith" that makes some of theyre guns and bayonetts. And he also does some of the metals pieces such as theyre buttons. So ill try and see if i can get pictures for you guys.
and also I looked closely at some of the trailers were they show his rotating blade, and it looks like its fixed on a rotating piece of metal and its locked to a point of extension. Maybe it comes out like a regular blade, and then with another push of the trigger, it unlocks and can be turned? :)

Hi everybody!
I'm new here.. well, I've been stalking this thread for a couple of days (awesome stuff!) and this has just convinced me to actually start making my first cosplay costume! Oh my, Connor's coat and everything, it's so nice! Isn't it?? *happyhappy*

So, I've looked at probably a hundred or so different cosplays (seriously, why are they all so gorgeous? I'm in over my head...) This guy has the most amazing costume I've seen of Connor so far. http://rbf5247.deviantart.com/art/Connor-almost-there-310553729
Now to my question. To me it looks like the sleeves are made from a different material than the rest of the coat, it almost looks like white leather? Or is it just that he's been weathering the coat alot? (If yoou zooooooom in real close you might be able to see what i mean lol!) I'm soon gonna buy all the fabric I need, so I was just thinking...

Maybe a weird question, but well, I've gotta start somewhere!

Bye! :)

So im almost done planning it out, and while taking a closer look at his leggins, i noticed something, I HADNT THOUGHT ABOUT HIS GLOVES!, i cant believe i hadnt noticed them. They look to be leather, but also kinda like knuckle gloves so they cut off at your knuckles. And i was wondering what you all thought, but a friend just brought me 2 deerskins, and i was gonna use them on the leggings. Ill attempt to upload a picture when im finished with making my moccassins and leggings. Thank you all so much for the help.

Opacus02
07-28-2012, 05:33 AM
Right on both counts. They do appear to be leather and they are cut off above the knuckles. I didn't want to make gloves (with or without actual leather) so I just got some leather work gloves at the hardware store and cut off the fingers. Cheap and easy.

Edit:Oh, and @vonviolet, I was kinda joking there. Internet sarcasm doesn't convey as much I guess.

vonviolet
07-28-2012, 10:58 PM
@Opacus02- No, no I got the sarcasm part! XD I was just as surprised Ubisoft didn't announce that Connor had 2 hidden blades! My brain was just rambling on... @_@

@TheAmerican337 - I also second what Opacus02 said! :D If you're looking to make gloves from scratch this may help: http://www.renaissancetailor.com/demos_gloves.htm
Some alterations would be needed of course, but there are some tips about working with leather for gloves in there some where. :)

EDIT 7/30: Added a little tid bit about wonderflex under Belt/Insignia!

Just wanted to say THANKS so much for this! This is awesome. I've wanted to do an AC cosplay for a really long time now, so this will be incredibly helpful if I decide on Connor. I always want to play the game first before I make a decision on whether or not to do it. I might decide to still do that Altair I've wanted to do since forever

Apparently this user http://rbf5247.deviantart.com/art/AC-III-Connor-Cosplay-finished-318156127 used a linen/synthetic for the coat, but padded leather for the arms. Looks good right? (Who am I kidding, this i amazing!) Good god, where am I gonna get padded leather from? x) But just so you know, leather is an option to use too! :)

First off, I want to join everyone else in saying a huge THANKS for putting together all of these fantastic resources. As a relative newcomer to the cosplay world, these are invaluable.

For anyone that may be interested, I made Connor's bear claw necklace (http://blackrabbitartisan.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d59zp9u) that you're welcome to peruse (lol at my bf's hairy chest XD). I made the 'claws' out of Ecru coloured polyclay, which I then painted with a 'bleached bone' paint and added some 'burnt umber' for effect. I used this (http://www.prm.ox.ac.uk/LGweb/images/1893_67_15.jpg) really good image reference. All of the reference pictures showing Connor's necklace indicated the 3 claws with no beads, so I went with that. They're threaded onto a leather thong. The holes are just big enough to thread on, so that way they don't move around too much. You could tie knots either side if you wanted to secure them in place though.

Now I have a question - I've looked at the fantastic links provided on the buckskin leggings but Connor's seem to be quite unique and I haven't quite figured out the construction in my head. From some angles it appears that the leggings wrap around, which is what the centre seam looks to be? If anyone would be willing to share how they constructed their leggings I would be most appreciative! I've made greaves/half chaps before by creating a hashed template from calico and they turned out ok (not great but eh, not bad for my first ever effort working with leather and no pattern!), but I think Connor's are going to require a fair bit of planning so they don't fall apart or look ridiculous (or end up costing a fortune in failed attempts!).

Also, to put my two cents worth on the rotating blade debate, based on the AnvilNext engine trailer demo (http://youtu.be/WFAuU4R5q-0) it appears that is in, in fact, detachable. In the video, you see him rotate it and palm it. Watch at 2.10 mark to see the blade in its rotating spankiness.

I'm building the Sharpshooter and having an awesome time finding reference images :| I can hardly see his vest so if anyone has any additional info on his costume and is feeling generous I'll gladly take it! It also looks like he has about a billion different accessories, but it's hard to see them all from the angle of the ingame image and the concept art. Here's to hoping we get more images at GamesCon!

Hey, firstly I just want to say, thank you Vonviolet for compiling all this info. for everyone. And I like to contribute a little something I found. The artist's name is Franky-bizarro and he has drawn up and posted on deviant-art a Connor pattern and an Aveline pattern. I'm not sure how accurate the Aveline pattern is, but I've sewn a scaled mock-up of Connor's coat and it is pretty darn accurate.

Hey Vonviolet, great work on getting the ref pics, the one of the hidden blade was just what I needed =).

You might want to add these as well. They are great patterns and with some adjustments I managed to make a very nice hood with the patterns provided in the below links:

Aveline:

Connor (waistcoat including hood):

bigjohn9397 + Trujin: Thank you both! :D The patterns have been added to the front page! Glad I could help with the reference! I spend hours online searching so you don't! :) Research is time consuming enough and having everything in one spot helps. I'm glad I could help out with the weapons ref, it's often the hardest thing to find good ref for.

I have yet to try out the hood pattern but it looks good! :D The Aveline pattern is a nice bonus too! Aveline should have her own resource thread seriously. XD

UPDATE: Fixed broken Captain Connor Set II link and added more under trailers! Part 3 of the Making of Assassin's Creed III is now up too!

Could someone enlighten me how this is supposed to be done? I'm desperate over here...

I wish to cosplay Ratohnhaké:ton, or pre-assassin Connor/Young Connor (not child). But finding good reference pictures that show his full outfit and gear is murder. -_-;
I don't plan on using an actual pattern, more making it from just looking at it. If anyone has any thorough pictures of that outfit, I would love you forever if you could link me them.

so I'm working on a Connor Kenway costume... and I pulled a noob and tried to use cotton for the hood. In defense, I was broke and had to cut up one of my brother's shirts. Does anyone know a way to make the cotton any stiffer, or do I need to start over. P.S. yes i am a girl. yes i am cosplaying Connor. deal with it. :skidude2:

I looked at the site you provided, and I think I have the solution. From what I understand, this (http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/home/department/craft-supplies/53984-00.aspx) would be perfect. It has the right shape, color, and length, as what is seen in-game. So I hope that helps somewhat, and thank you for showing this site, I will definitely be ordering from them when I get started on the necklace.

I guess your making a female version aswell, join the club.

What I am doing is making everything more fitted around the waist. Perhaps have the waistcoat under bust??? link (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=underbust+waistcoat&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=afj2ULSEJOPM0AWcxYCoBw&biw=1366&bih=639&sei=Cfn2UIPzFsO-0QWN4IDYDA) I don't really know, I need to sketch some concepts up and have some criticism on them...

For my hair (because I have quite dark brown hair) I am adding the braid has has and either having my hair in a french plait (braid) or have half up half down or... Letting it free and wild!

Feel free to contact me if need be.

Hooray Connor-ladies!

I'm following the initial art pretty closely, although the waistcoat is certainly more fitted, the jacket is a bit more billowy, as if femme-connor is wearinga man's coat. I think the sash worn at a natural waist instead of around his hips will also help emphasize curves though the underbust idea is a neat one, that also brings up 'what do you wear under that?'.

Though I know Jessica Nigri did a Feminized Connor. I'd post a link but unfortunately I'm at work. Will add it tonight at home.

I have seen it already, It's a decent cosplay but I certainly don't want to expose as much flesh. I have thought about making a version of the shirt he wore when he met Achilles. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc7xch5QR61qmje97.gif

Here is my basic design for underneath the jacket anyway > http://emalema.deviantart.com/art/Female-Connor-kenway-cosplay-concept-349783454

Starting up my Rule 63 Connor cosplay. This is a big help cause I didn't want to spend $400 on the china made one. Going to not change much as I think Connor would still look the same as a female outfit wise. No half naked elements like the other female cosplays of him I've seen. Need to start finding a alt to wool for the coat as I can't afford $30 a yard stuff..a cheaper suiting fabric will be ok? I'm going to give Connor the hairstyle like the Independent multiplayer character. I swear she is a female Connor already lol. Will hopefully be done by December.
