As stated on the main page of AnimeBoston's website...
"Pre-Registration is Closed (Temporarily?)
For months we've been warning everyone that Anime Boston has been rapidly approaching its attendance cap. As of Monday, February 2nd, we are taking pre-registration offline to catch up with our backlog. If it looks like we can fit more people, we will open up pre-registration again...otherwise it will remain closed.
Please do not e-mail Registration asking if/when it will open up again. When we know, that information will be posted here.

Everyone who has NOT preregged...I suggest a change of plans unless they magically reopen it. After being there last year I made sure to pre reg...sorry for all those who waited.

To everyone. The pre registering site is as of right now closed but it concivable that it could re-open it.They need to catch up on the people who did pre register.Give it a little time.So for the people who missed pre register keep your fingers crossed to see if they do re-open it.Keep your eyes glued to animeboston webpage, www.animeboston.com
But come 2005 with a bigger better place stuff like this will be a thing of the past.

Though pre-registering is temporarily closed, that does NOT mean one cannot buy a ticket at the convention... that would be recommended either the Thursday before the opening or early on Friday, when the tickets will not be sold out... consider, many more people pre-registered than last year, (I certainly did, remembering the waiting line last year ^_^) so pre-registering may be closed, but only to open spots for those who register at the convention (especially one day attendees, who don't have the opportunity to sign up in advance.)
Let us see if pre-registration re-opens; simply wait for the backlog to be lifted and the moment it begins again, order a ticket as soon as possible.

Though pre-registering is temporarily closed, that does NOT mean one cannot buy a ticket at the convention... that would be recommended either the Thursday before the opening or early on Friday, when the tickets will not be sold out...

If you read the fine red print on the registration page, before they altered it, they basically said that if they closed pre registration online, they would NOT offer any more registrations for full weekend OR single day passes at the convention. So sorry to say, but to those who waited they are just out of luck until they get a larger venue unless they get some open spots to open it up again (they are still waiting for registrations to arrive since some mailed it right on the day of the cutoff)

Reason why they warned EVERYONE to register early. No staffer will be accepting registrations, only pre reg pickups. Plus they don't do Thursday registration as far as I know, as they did not last year.

If it remains close, you can only buy a Castle Pass which allows access to the dealer's room, nothing in the Park Plaza hotel.

I think you'll be okay.. I pre-regged with Paypal... That's the fastest way for them to get their payment, I think... So anyway.. Yeah.. Too bad it closed.. Now me paying for registration is useless.. So a spot might just open up... Because if my ride/roommate can't go, how am I to get there, or afford a hotel room? ><

ack, sorry to hear that chibiRinoa. I know I just put anime boston as my home page, and would recommend that for you as well, so IF they end up reopening up pre-reg, you can always start off by seeing the website.

If not, I'll have to learn some infiltration skills and try to get in. Even if I can't get in the dealer's room and just go to the lobbies, I wouldn't mind...well I'd mind, but I could settle.

I wonder if I can auction off my extra pre-reg in a few weeks to make some money for the dealers room:P

Either that, or give it to someone, they can be my new best friend *coughpackhorsecough*.

I preregistured. Back in January and I'm just hoping it got through okay. It sucks though... my parents only wanted to go ONE day but instead they had to get a three day passes. I'm suppose to be going in a group and thankfully alot of the sent in the money as quick as possible.

I'm glad I preregistered a while ago--but I convinced my roommate to come along (and cosplay no less), which is a feat, as he's only recently been introduced to anime. I don't think he's preregistered though. However, looking at the main page for AB, it says they will reopen pre-registration once they get through their backlog, if they think can fit more people (ie, they don't actually have 4000 registrations yet). This makes sense. If they're backlogged, they don't know how many people have actually registered, but they don't want to accidently accept more people than they're allowed to have. So, keep your eyes peeled if you still need to get in.

Does anybody know when they'll contact people to let them know that they are pre registered?

See the FAQ.
http://www.animeboston.com/about/faq.html#14

Anime Boston does not send out confirmations on registration.
"You will not be receiving anything in the mail from us. If you have not heard from us, don't panic. That's normal."

I sent mine in quite a while ago, and i'm not worried about it right now as I'm sure they must be extremly busy. Was just wondering if anyone heard anything yet.

Yep...Registration is VERY busy right now. I don't even dare send an e-mail asking, "Hey, how's it goin'?"

PatrickD
02-04-2004, 04:49 PM
Though pre-registering is temporarily closed, that does NOT mean one cannot buy a ticket at the convention...

Uh... Yes it does. If the convention's full, it's FULL...meaning we won't be selling ANY memberships at the door (except the Castle-only ones).

We'll just have to see if Registration opens up again after the Reg staff counts what we've got paid so far. However, if it does open, I suspect that the remaining space will go VERY FAST...so if you see it open, don't wait!

Would I count on being able to show up and pay at the door? No. I seriously doubt anyone will be able to do that...not even for a one-day pass. (Well, maybe if it's slow on Sunday...but by then the con's almost over.)

Plus they don't do Thursday registration as far as I know, as they did not last year.

We were opened on Thursday evening in 2003 for pre-registration badge pickup. We will do the same in 2004...so if you're arriving from out of town and checking in on Thursday night, I'd recommend getting your badge then.

I'm glad I pre registered early for once.

I feel so bad that a lot of people can't go now. Once of my friends didn't register yet, and she was really looking forward to AB. I guess there is always next year, right? Hopefully next year it will be held in a place that can accomodate more people.

AB is going to be in the Hynes Convention Center next year from April 29th to May 1st.

And according to the Hynes Convention Center site, AB set a cap of 8000 for the 2005 con.

So yes, next year will be huge :D

Wow with much of convention center being rented out i would have thought the attendance would be a slightly higher cap.I know most likely that animeboston 2005 might not get 8000 but if they could pull off a good coup like they did last year(2003) it could get near there.Whilel i wasn't a fan of any of the gundam male voice actors(i know they did other stuff) you know there was lots of fangirls and fanboys there just for them.I admit animeboston had one hell of a excellent inaguraily event in 2003.While it had some problems most of them were unexpected and could not have been forseen.I really think animeboston could be a good mid sized con for the upper east coast(espically considering some east coast cons are suffering some).

That's NOT an attendance cap. That's what the Hynes estimates as our attendance.

My bad also.I thought that also along with kikei.Do i think animeboston 2005 could get 8000?I doubt it but concivible maybe depends on guests. If they were to get someone(or a group) really major from japan then yes i could see loads of people coming.

I cant believe this. I was literally going to register tomorrow. I was just waiting for my brother and my friend to get paid so we could all register at once.

Does anyone think they would have a problem with me and my friends just staying in the lobby for pictures? I went last year and no one was checking badges in the lobby, only in event rooms like the art gallery, the dealers room, etc. I just want to cosplay. Also, if I can get in, do you guys think I could get to the Clubhouse room, if Cosplay.com has one again this year? I didnt make it to the one they had last year , so i dont know if they were checking badges.

Somebody make me feel better. This sucks.

It's very likely pre-registration will open up again...but when it does, you'd better pre-register fast. Those last few spots won't be around for long.

Does anyone think they would have a problem with me and my friends just staying in the lobby for pictures? I went last year and no one was checking badges in the lobby, only in event rooms like the art gallery, the dealers room, etc. I just want to cosplay.

From what I heard (but did not witness), the fire marshal required us to turn away people at the door to the hotel if they were not pre-registered convention attendees or didn't have any other business at the hotel (such as people staying for the Boston Marathon.) There was a much photographed sign on the hotel's entrances saying, "We're sorry. Anime Boston has reached maximum capacity."

You probably won't be able to get to the 4th floor at all unless you've got a badge.

Also, if I can get in, do you guys think I could get to the Clubhouse room, if Cosplay.com has one again this year? I didnt make it to the one they had last year , so i dont know if they were checking badges.

We WILL be checking badges everywhere. Since there's obviously no way we can fit everyone that wants to come this year, we'll be on alert for people trying to sneak in. People without badges or with forged badges will be asked to leave. (We actually escorted someone out of the hotel last year after we caught them with a forged badge.)

hmm, i'm hoping notice goes up soon, because once it does and if there's no slots, i guess the next best thing is to apply to work on the staff or be a volunteer, and that will probably be my plan if pre-reg completly fills up....and then it will just be a matter of keeping my fingers crossed x_x

Well...we ARE looking for additional staff.

Want to help out with Registration (and get to see just about everyone coming to the con)?
Can you run a video camera?
Are you a certified EMT who just wants to hang out at the con in case we need you?
Do you want to help keep the dealers happy in the dealers' room?

Check out the open positions (and benefits of being staff) here:

Actually, PatrickD, I have a question. I am planning to register this week myself, in fact I check twice a day. The reason is I held a very powerful panel discussion at Katsucon which was my first semi large convention panel discussion and I wanted to see how it went before I tried to do it at other conventions. For a room that was not marked as "Virginia" and got me lost, had no DVD/VCR, or had any chalkboard, it went over not too bad, the best thing I can say is I had poise, but I owe the success to the wonderful group in there. I actually made a friend, a professor in college who I gave my lesson plan to. She uses manga for her assignments and it seemed like she, too was fascinating.

I noticed today when I went to register for one after seeing that it went very well (that and it says on your page your rooms come with DVD/ VCR players standard) that is you don't register by today your information might not be in the booklet. I know I will wait until I register if I get to do it this week before I do, but if say later this week I do get one of the allottted slots, would it be too late for my panel, if accepted to appear in the booklet?

Edit, I noticed that today is the 17th not the 16, so it's a day late anyway........so it's already asking a favor, please forgive my clock being off from Katsucon.

Not all the panel rooms come with A/V equipment. In fact, those panel rooms are the hardest to get. I suggest you apply for a panel ASAP and then pre-register as soon as the form is back online.

We can't guarantee you'll get a panel room with A/V equipment. Those might already be full by now. I'm not sure.

...and this is why it's always a good idea to sign up for stuff early. :)
