for one of my costumes next month, I'm planning to use some body makeup, and, well, I've never strayed too far from my face as far as makeup goes... I'm planning on covering, like, my arms and neck and shoulders and don't have a -lot- of makeup to spare, so for those of you who've used body paint or makeup before-- should I use a sponge or my hands to apply? I'm also planning to put the makeup on my hands (the backs, at least)-- is there anything I can use in addition to makeup sealant that'll help it stay on?

Use a sponge, you get better coverage with a sponge or better yet, a foundation brush. You didn't say which costume you're wearing but if you're looking for a flesh tone color get Dermablend foundation since its long lasting compared to normal makeup and even some theatrical makeups.

And Dermablend is waterproof.

You need to set it with their special setting powder, but then you're pretty much set.

I think they make a body/thigh cream that doesn't need the setting powder, but I've forgotten.

You might want to purchase a couple of shades to blend them together to get your skin tone. I remember their colors were very peach and tan. It was odd.
