I found this sweet WWI Russian map case and goggles at a local military surplus store. Those plus a leather belt for free were under $15! What luck!! Just thought I'd share and ask if anyone had a recommendation for how to make the leather on the case darker.

Most dyes or stains can alter the leather color (even if it is already finished), but scrub it real good so that it adheres. Do it in thin multiple layers. It takes a while and a few coats but its worth it (in my opinion).

Those goggles are super rad.

Why make it darker?

Gorgeous bag. I wouldn't try aging it artificially, I'd just wear it, use it as a purse, let it get knocked around and handle it a lot.

Army surplus is an awesome source for steampunk stuff. If I bought every bag/knapsack/etc. I saw and liked in an army surplus window I'd have my own store.

About half my Steampunk stuff came from the military surplus store.
