One of my friends got the first issue in the mail (a bunch of us subscribed at AXNY). She says it's great, plus it came with a great Yu-gi-oh card (alternate art Blue Eyes White Dragon). I'm anxiously awaiting it to work it's way through the campus mail system! Also, unlike the dub, they kept all of the YGO character names, yea! I hate when dubs / manga translations change names.

When I went to Suncoast awhile back I got a free preview magazine of Shonen Jump, and exept for Yu Yu Hakusho, it didn't really interest me.

I love it so far myself! Really cool that the YGO manga is a bit more violent then the show, the YYH manga rocked as well as DBZ and Sandland was pretty cool too!

"Playstation 6 and Dragon Quest 13!"
(And Dabura too!)

I picked up a sample issue from the Metreon Festival of Anime and it looks promising - my brother loved it! Maybe I'll get him a subscription for Christmas =D

=D funny thing is...the US Shounen Jump was on Today's morning news here in Tokyo. the funniest thing they said afterwards:

"wow, it's there...you think it'll be popular there as it is here? Dunno, can't tell from those Americans"

Rinkun - lol XD

And yeah, I *think* I saw it at Suncoast. If so, it was the preview issue. The preview issue annoyed me, I know I shouldn't be surprised but I was bugged that they were focusing on the action, just putting in random scenes that they thought would sell the series to little boys. That would NOT have been the scene from Shaman King I'd have picked to encourage people to read it . . .

I keep thinking, I really ought to get a subscription, but I keep forgetting! It's going to take them so long before they catch up with where I was in Shaman King . . . (like, chapter 60.)

Kirby - You can change it if you want, lol. Oh yeah and remind me to ask you if you can make me a gif. Oh wait, I'm asking you now, aren't I? >_<

X3 they did an "indepth report" last night. i recorded it. if i know how to get video from VCR onto comp, i'll do it, but this is what they said

"In America, people read from left to right, whereas in Japan, we read right to left, however in Shounen Jump USA, they read right to left like us"

::interview random American business guy::

"Americans will find it weird to read it that way"

::interview retail guy::

"Dragonball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh! is the most popular series here in america for young people. as soon as they ask for the cards, we show them the Shounen Jump."

::interview business guy::

"Because some titles we have are popular, we add in new ones to make them known for America as well"

::back to Japanese people::

"unlike Japan's Shounen Jump, American Shounen Jump has 75% less pages then the Phone book size of Japanese. plus it's really expensive. whereas Japan's Shounen Jump is only 200 Yen ($1.50), American shounen Jump is $4.50 (500 Yen)"

::enter other Japanese newscaster::

"wow, it's that expensive?"

"yea, those Americans love to spend their money"

"but so do we"

"ok, onto other news, Enix buys Squaresoft"

I.C. Entertainment (formerly Ironcat) to launch anthology of Manga by American artists.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Starting in December 2002, I.C. Entertainment, formerly Studio Ironcat, will publish a monthly anthology called AmeriManga. As the name implies, AmeriManga features manga style comics by American artists.

The first three issues will feature stories by Jen Quick (Soul Union), Beth Westmoreland (Without Darkness), Christopher Seaton (Last Ditch) and "Insomniac Machine" (Kouseki). Koseki, which is only 3 issues long, will be replaced by Amy Kim Ganter's "Reman Mythology" in the fourth issue. Fred Gallagher's Warmth will also joing the anthology in the fourth issue, bringing the series count up to 5 (Fred Gallagher's popular web-comic Megatokyo is also being published in Paperback by I.C., with volume 1 coming out this December and volume 2 in March).

Kei Blue, I.C.'s publicist as well as one of the people behind AmeriManga spoke with ANN regarding the anthology. Jen Quick's Soul Union was in fact the catalyst and original raison d'etre for AmeriManga. Ms. Blue explains, "I was reading an ashcan that I picked up at Katsucon and found it to be really good. I passed it around to over a hundred people and everyone liked it." From there the idea grew into an anthology of American Manga.

In regards to the screening process used to find comics for the antholody Ms. Blue explains, "The intent of the submission guidelines was to scare off people who weren't serious. We needed people who could produce 28 pages every month. In addition we required 1 full story on tap, a written plot guideline and character outlines." Regarding the appropriateness of the titles for and American Manga anthology, "A fresh style that was both new and yet familiar. No copiers mind you." Or, "Something that is recognizeably Manga, yet still original, as opposed to an attempt to merely copy or imitate existing manga."

Each issue of AmeriManga will be 140 pages in length and sell for $7.99 an issue at the news stand, I.C. will be discounting the subscription rate.

Naruto is god =D just like OP. but Naruto is about kids learning how to be ninjas and one of them, Naruto, is a reincarnation of the Fox God they fought a long time ago =3

that's what i picked up from the anime series here XD

and Sasuke is a hot mofo...but i think Naruto is sexier ^_~

and you have to love everyone's favorite porn-reading Sensei, Kakashi X3

Anyone know if Barnes & Noble will be carrying it?

I saw one copy and Barnes & Noble, but it wasn't in any condition to be read, much less sold.
And the only thing that interests me is Naruto. Unfortunately, I don't read for a single title alone.
And I can just find some translated One Piece anywhere anyway.
So what does that leave? DBZ, Sand Land, YuGiOh, Yu Yu Hakkusho and Shaman King.
OMG DBZ AND YUGIOHWOW.[/gay]

I finally found a copy at Borders. I love all of the stories and there will be more in the next issue. Naruto and Shamen King. Yay!
