I'm 13, going as Freya from Chobits. My mom says I'll get in trouble with the guys if I show up in 4 feet of clothing. I really put all my effort into my costume, and Halloween isn't when I want to show it off. What do you guys think?

Are you going with a group? D*C is not the most family friendly con. During the day you should be okay, but at night you may want to travel with friends if have a costume that think might be provocative as there are some people getting drunk. Areas to avoid if don't feel up to dealing with that would be the back of Hyatt main lobby(where bar is) and area outside Hyatt lower lobby(drinking/smoking area at night).
Program track areas and Marriott usually smoothsailing.

Yeah, I'm trying to tell her I'll be ok as long as my friends and dad are there. Is the Dealer Room safe? That's where I really wanna go.

Hmm. >.> You're gonna hate me after this comment, but I don't think you should go. I wouldn't let my 13-year-old go to D*C alone, even with friends. There are quite a few drifting drunk people. e.e The dealers and exhibitors rooms are EXTREMELY crowded, to the point where you are just squashed against other human beings. The dealer's room is the worst...or is it the exhibitor hall? The one that's downstairs and small is like, dangerously crowded. XD

But if you do go, a few tips:
-Keep your money hidden, and not in an obvious place like a purse. It's an extremely crowded convention and if you got mugged, you'd never know until we went to get your money.
-Don't go at night. Even with friends. You are pretty young, and there are lots of drunks. All that pretty much happens at night are concerts anyway, and adult-oriented stuff.
-Don't go to the masqerade. If this year is like last year, then the masqerade will be at a totally different building that they will bus you to, and it's at night and finishes kind of late. Going off the premises at night at your age isn't recommended. Besides, it's shown on TV in the hotel. I don't know if the con has a room just set up for watching at the hotel, but you could check if you really want to see it.

Why don't you just wear your costume to AWA? Cause I'll tell ya...guys will oggle, and drunk guys might very well try more. @_@ AWA is cheaper and is an actual anime convention, and is more family friendly. www.awa-con.com

Oh hey! Missed out on something in your post! If your dad is going to go, then I'd say you would be fine. We all know how dads are. ~_^ I'd still say not to go at night, though. Your dad might see all the drunks and be all like "Okay, never doing this again."

My dad knows some Dave guy....he played D&D with him in high school. Thanks for the link! Which con would like Chobits more anyway?

AWA...cause it's an anime convention. D*C is a scifi/fantasy/horror/anime/gaming/comic convention. Anime is not so big there, but it's still there. No one will run you out if you wear your Freya costume, though.

BE CAREFUL! I took my sister, who was about 16, a couple years ago. She went as a Hogwarts student, complete with robes that covered just about everything, and at night the pervs wouldn't leave her alone. I almost got into a fistfight with two guys who wanted to take pictures of her spanking them with her wand. I love DragonCon, but at night it can be too much even for a full grown woman.

I think you should go but, leave at around 5 p.m. Also I think you should go as Freya anyway cuz you worked hard on it and I can tell that you are excited about wearing it. But if you are still having doubts then try making another costume for Dragon Con and wear your Freya to AWA. Speacking of drunks " They ruin everthing" , but don't let them ruin your fun, cuz there will be secruity at the con so don't be shy about asking for assitance. Also if possible try and get a family member or a friend who is also an adult to accompany you. I hate to see a fellow cosplayer worry so cheer up kay!!! :jjacks: :bigtu:

I'm definately going to AWA as Freya, but I might dress up as Gwen Pearson from Outlaw Crack (Spanime--from Spain). Or maybe Lulu's Onion Knight?

Ooooh man you should cosplay the onion Knight, cuz I am cosplaying LuLu and there will be at least 5 more LuLu's who would just love to take a pictrue with your costume. I say good choice either way. :jjacks: :bigtu:

^__^ hey its ok to cosplay in that freya costume. i just turned 14 and i went to fanime con with two of my friends and just hanged in the dealers room the whole time. fanime was about an hour away from home too. i think it would be okay as long as you have like at least 1 friend with you. and hey i was about to cosplay as chi in her baker outfit and it looks like a maid's outfit. no biggie ^__^ hey some ppl have ummm more provocitive costumes.

I've heard good and bad about both. I am going to Dragon*Con, but I'm not dressing out. I am for AWA, though. How old are the poeple going to AWA?

Dragoncon in my opinion might as well be the Mardi Gras of conventions. If I had a 13 year old there'd be no way I'd let them go.

I'd let them go, but definitely not by themselves. I'd be sticking to them like glue. It think it would be okay if her mom went with her, or an older sibling or something. Even to the stuff that happens at night, because a lot of the contests and stage programs don't go off until well after dark.

D*C isn't necessarily dangerous, per-say, but there are an awful lot of people there and when the parties start firing up in the evenings, it's not really the best environment for an unescorted minor. As long as there's someone older there to watch her back, she should be fine.
