View Full Version : Japan Expo 2002.... it was very...

Japan expo is kinda fun. It was small and laid back. It was a two day convention-like place in which both day's events were about the same. The masquerade was kind of entertaining... it was probably more fun to be on stage than off. Congrats kitty on first place.
The shopping was decent having one aisle dedicated to anime related stuff. But overall you couldn't find many rare anime cool looking stuff, but we did find a couple of rare items. The food court was acually pretty good. There was well good food... though the curry could've been better.
A good high light that makes this event stand out was the Kimono trial booth. Basically you get to try on a japanese kimono and walk around in it for awhile to see if you would want to buy it. Saru look so cute in her kimono.... after I had to put her in by force... I was so intentionaly going to put one on but it got too busy and yea got kicked out. BTW that kimono so suited you Kitty.
This was a fun little con which gave me a couple of good memories and a chance to screw around.
So who else went and what did you think?

i was busy most of time, but i had to chance to walk around on sunday and it was like i was in japan again. Next year, i will defintely try to push for Square and the other big name anime companies to come.. however, anime is still only a portion of the whole expo. I think JE had to sacrifice cuz Hiro Yuuki came n' stuff so yea..
Andy: (points to his kimono) "omg it's soo your color!". ^_^ LOL.
I loved it! It was a great "cultural experiance". And it was my friend Kei-Kuns first con.... we said JE didnt break his anime con virginity, it just fondeled him a little....he was kinda scared by that statement!

It was ok... I wasn't in the greatest of moods so... right... anyway lol. But the masquerade cheered me up a little. And Hiro Yuuki made my day. But yesh masquerade was fun and I still have yet to go through my gift basket thing lol.
Yea, what did you guys get in there anyway?

I think the main donators of the prizes were Bandai and Pioneer, since they couldn't come to JE this year. ^_^

*L* I've been dying to know what was in those things. :P Now I've been enlightened. ^_-
As for me - well, there was so many things I wanted to look at, but I only went for one day. ;_; I had a lot of fun, but I did a really stupid thing. I only brought twenty dollars. I did have my student ID on me, but that left me with only enough money to go buy a Chobits plushee. *snif* I got to live off all the free samples they were handing out. xX

I didn't bring any money lol I so poor X_x. Al bought me a Chii keychain tho XD and it was the only one too! Weeee! I love my Chii keychain lol sooooo cuteness it is.

I thought it was a lot of fun. I'mjsut starting to get into the Cosplay scene via Mink, but for a bit of fondeling (see Mink's posts .. about 7 up) that was fun. It wasn't all anime and cosplay, but then there was enough to keep me satisfied. I enjoyed the fact that it was everything Japanese.
Now I can't wait until AX .. our CosPlay group is gonna rock! :)
Kei-Kun! *GLOMPS* Hes the greatest way way!
12-03-2002, 12:12 AM
SQUEE! I can't wait for AX either! XD *poses and cackles, pointing to the sun with her Lobster-decked Haku plushee* I will HAVE more than ONE costume! No more worries about my costume getting dirty on the first day, nya HA HA!
*showers random plushees everywhere*

What sora costume Iori E? I was the incomplete Sion.... only if i had an iron during JE.
If big companies come next time, it'll make the con more worth while. But the booth that made my day was Anime-Eigo. One of the few companies that really supports the fans. If anybody didn't know they pushing a lot of money re-master the orginal japanese macross series so its the best quality on the DVD. Kinda different from ADV's vhs rip.
Lemme see, I didn't buy anything at all. How werid.... must be because I'm a poor student. Aw well I'll be more prepared next year.
Hey Iori E, yeah you looked really hot... almost made me leave my girlfriend... all you needed was fancier looking obi. I still think they jipped you considering it took them 3 minutes to put it on you.

The intent of Japan Expo was never to promote anime or cosplay so it stands to reason that there wouldn't be a lot for many hardcore anime fans to gain from going other than further cultural enlightment. I've found the culinary demostrations to be quite inspirational, not to mention the Geisha and the asian ensemble. And of course, the chance to meet some of you was part of the enjoyment too. Congratulationss, Miss Kitty, on your award.

Even tho it wasn't specifically an anime con, I still had a good time ^_^. All my life I've been interested with Japanese culture so this was pretty cool... and the food was great XD.
