View Full Version : Could Hentai Cosplay Be Trouble @ CN?

07-06-2004, 11:36 AM
This might seem like a weird question but I've been juggling the idea of going to CN for awhile and one of my biggest issues are who would I cosplay as. I could bring back my old costume, but I'd have to find someone else to dress up with me or else no will know who I am.

I thought maybe I'd do the school uniform from Bible Black.
Would cosplaying a hentai character be asking for trouble?
Or would it bring even less of an audience response than my old Oruha from Clover costume? ^^;

probley trouble.... because the people at cna are pretty strict i remeber i started a sword duel with someone before at a convention and this guy who worked for cna broke it up..... so i dont think you should do that....

if its a school uniform with no actually hentai then yeah its ok though....

I don't see why not. If it is just a school uniform and not some outfit where you only have a top on and have a tentacle raping you, then of course that wouldn't be allowed. XD Most likely they'll have no idea to who you're cosplaying. *Shrugs* That's what I think, anyway.

*points to what megra said*

unless your showing stuff you shouldn't be or doing some thing that may harm other con attendies, there shouldn't be a prob with your costume.

I was going to do the fuku from immoral sisters one year.. ^^;

As long as it doesn't end up like this:

Unless it's greatly inappropriate, CN shouldn't have any problems with it. I think last year there was a Star Wars cosplayers who did Princess Leia in a gold bikini...and that was it...a gold bikini...and no one seemed to have a problem with it.

AW! i've seen a much hoter man faye ;)

Well i know two years ago there were two Star Wars girls in super skimp outfits. They had bodyguards because some people were getting a little freaky on them *L* well, i dunno if you would call them bodyguards, but they called themselves that ^^;

No I wouldn't wear anything obscene @_@;
I just wanna know if the fact that I'm dressed as a character from that kind of Anime would cause a problem. The Bible Black uniform is just an example. It looks like this:
http://www.bewitchingchild.com/livejournal/bibleblack.bmp (don't worry, it's safe! i capped that from a shot going from down up, so that's why it's kinda fuzzy below the waist).
I may not do it but I'm running low on ideas and I always thought their uniforms were really cute so I'm just making sure it's okay before I make it a possibility ^^;

I've been wanting to make a Pia Carrot uniform and you know what? It might, sadly enough, have more of a recognition factor than Clover cosplay just because of how many fanboys watch hentai. =P Bible Black has an awesome uniform (sad that nice character designs end up in hentai =P) and I can't think of any reason the con would have a problem with it, unless you were to re-enact some of the anime. Hentai, by definition, is explicit sexual content. Unless you manage to actually portray that in some sense, you're fine for CN.

BTW, the Slave Girl Leia and the Street Fighter Character (Who's name escapes me at the moment) had bodyguards/boyfriends to deal with the fanboys and creepy comic book guys, not CN staff.

*stage whisper* The CN staff is so out of it they wouldn't even recognize you, never mind the fact you're in a H-game costume. So long as you're not breaking any rules, they really, really don't care.

I love the outfit, and good luck!

MissieYohko, that's a really cute costume! It reminds me alot of a Kasumi Karen (X) uniform I'd like to make. As others have said, you won't have a problem with that at CNA/SFX. Good luck, I can't wait to see it completed. :)

hey yohko, if anyone gets on your back (fan boy wise) just come and find me and i will "take care" of them. lol i still oh you for ditching out at Anime North so we can call me being your own personal hitman equal. besides i think i am dressing up as kenshin so it will work out well

i wont be going to CN anytime soon, but i've seen bible black so i doubt if anyone would have a problem with that. (i've thought about doing that myself)

but i'm curious...how many people have cosplayed a character from a hentai???

07-08-2004, 11:36 AM
Miss Yhoko- If you do do the costume, make sure to add one detail- a button that says "This costume is not an invitation" for all those wonderful fanboys who think that a H-costume means you want to jump in bed with every guy you see.

The Bible Black uniform is just an example. It looks like this:

O.O I love it!!! :love: Hey, I don't know how much security do you have in your country related to cosplay, but I think a cosplay like that is ok... there are other non-hentai cosplays that show up *a lot* more... :P , just an advice, always ask for respect from others, if you're cosplaying a hentai costume, probably you'll have issues with that...

Hmm... I guess I kinda want to reply since I cosplayed as Ito from Bible Black at AX 2004. Now I'm not huge on cosplay, and it was only my 2nd time cosplaying... but I thought the outfit was uber cute and well.. yeah, enough of my babbling.

Now, for problems? Other than costume issues, there weren't a lot of problems. As a warning, there may be some guys who will shoot you some perverted looks. But then again, that happens when you're wearing a short skirt right? Personally, I didn't notice any perverted-ness unless they came up and had a huge grin while askin' what series I was from. For the most part, the guys were very respectful. When they asked to take a picture with me, they pretty much kept their hands off. So yeah, I didn't have any problems in that department.

All in all, the guys were pretty nice. There were some who were really hesitant when they asked to take a picture... then again, that's probably b/c it's kinda like admittin' that you watch hentai. Most of the guys I ran into were from teen - college age group. So yeah... it should be safe...

But yeah, I'm sure it's fine as long as you don't do any naughty poses. Anyway, good luck... it's a cute outfit!

Bible Black has a great uniform. I fully intend on sewing something similar when I get the chance, and adding it to my "everyday" wardrobe. I was actually designing a similar uniform, but no need! One is already around!

As mentioned, there are many girls from hentai shows that have great outfits, and there are many girls from non-h anime that have far skimpier outfits. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself if need be, and if anything you're really uncomfortable with happens, tell security.

I don't think you'll have a problem at all. Have fun!

this was a question I had myself, don't know if i'd ever get the courage to make a hentai costume, but Bondage Fairies is a fav comic of mine and i've wanted to dress as Pfil for a bit... I've also watched Slave Warrior Maya and wanted to do one of the druid costumes from that...

I'm glad I'm not the only one considering it... oh and Whitemage... i'm a pia carrot fan too! yay! some of the costumes are fab! but god aweful hard to try and make in real life.

Thanks so much for all your responses! \^-^/

Chris~ hahaha thanks, I may hold that up to you! You're more intimidating looking than my boyfriend XD

Bondage Fairies would be fun to do! I found it hard to find a Hentai cosplay that is an obvious cosplay ^^; most of them are normal clothes are very elaborate suits :-=

I think the bodyguards for those two girls weren't directly CN staff. I knew one of them XD

If I decide to attend CNAX this year I think I will do that Bible Black uniform! ^_^ I was originally going to do an Initial D cosplay but lack of people interested has stomped that idea flat >_< So if you don't see me at CNAX expect me at Anime North ;) Mayhap I'll get that costume started early! :D

BTW, the Slave Girl Leia and the Street Fighter Character (Who's name escapes me at the moment) had bodyguards/boyfriends to deal with the fanboys and creepy comic book guys, not CN staff.

If Glen says he's their bodyguard, don't disagree. Nod and walk away, quickly. :)
