View Full Version : finding super long wigs

Since a ton of anime characters have super long hair, I'm always looking for incredibly long wigs, especially ones that have bangs. The best I've been able to find is 44 inches long (without bangs, and it doesn't come in anime-ish colors like blue and pink) and 30 inches long (with bangs). Is there some online store that sells wigs longer than this? I've been to a bunch of different sites, but there doesn't seem to be anything better than the lengths I listed.

Thanks for reading :D

www.amphigory.com has 44-inch wigs in anime-ish colors. ^^ I bought one in Power (a really nice golden yellow), and wow, it's so much longer on me than I thought it would be! XD
I haven't found any wigs longer than this.... But ragdolly.net has some nice 5-foot bags of loose hair that I'm sure could come in handy for a lot of characters. ^^ I need to get some myself, in fact....

I've found some really long ones on ebay before... and http://fifi-mahony.com/ has an "anime long" wig (http://fifi-mahony.com/animelo.html) that comes in lots of colours... no bangs tho ^^;

sometimes you can get lucky on ebay and find great stuff.
in my recent attempts to find a pluto wig i went to my local costume shop - they have an excellent supplier. try a costume shop, they can usually specail order. they offered to order me a, i think it was 58 inches, but it was also $60. O.O
so i have since decided to go with a slightyly shorter and more affordable wig. ^^;
so if online fails there just might be an unexpectedly good costume shop nearby somewhere. ^^

Getting really long wigs is one thing. Getting really long QUALITY, FUNKY COLORED WIGS is another >.<

And getting long, decent quality wigs for less than $100 is even harder ^^; I talked to someone about a custom wig for Shiva (FFX) and they practically laughed at me *sigh*

Who did you talk to? I'd love to find a place that commissions them.

I wonder... would it be too difficult to cut bangs on a wig?

It isn't difficult. I firmly believe if I could do it, anybody can. But you'll need a wig clamp and pins to keep it from moving, and a fair amount of patience and confidence. Part the hair forward at the point where you want the bangs to start, and then just cut off the hair over the face at the length you want them to be. You'll probably then need to curl them under with a low curling iron.

I spent two months avoiding cutting into my Nuriko wig since I was terrified of this procedure, but I was then kicking myself at how simple it actually was.

Ebay is generally where I get all my wigs from - always tend to be reasonably priced. I managed to pick up a 47.5" purple wig for my Nuriko cosplay this evening at the very happy price of 20 (inc. shipping) So yeah, it pays to hunt around and try different keywords for different results. Shopping around now whilst fancy dress is rife with Halloween and such is a great idea too. I know a few people that make a point of picking up several well priced wigs during this season for planned cosplays for the next year or so.

Try Cyperous. They're based in Japan, and the website is in Japanese, but they have a very good selection of super long wigs.

Haruna wrote a walk-through that explains how to navigate and order from them:

Just be warned...a super-long wig will tangle a LOT. Anything less than $80 is probably low-quality and will not be worth the trouble. Even with a high-quality wig, be prepared to stop every half hour or so and comb it out, and bring some wig conditioner with you. If you don't get the tangles out when they're small, the wig can be permanently ruined.

Anime characters often have ridiculously long hair, but in real life hair that long is a) expensive and b) a lot of trouble to maintain. IMO it can be better-looking and more practical to sacrifice a bit of accuracy and go with a somewhat shorter wig (say, waist-length instead of knee-length), as you can get high quality for less money and you won't have to deal with as much tangling.
