Quoted from a different mailing list:

"We sincerely apologize - it seems that a forged email that may contain a
virus was sent to the A-Kon listserv without our knowledge or permission
sometime last week. The subject may say 'Marshall' or 'from a loyal
customer' and may have a README.EXE file or other executable file attached.
This is apparently what is called an 'exploit' virus that was in an
outside system, grabbed all email addresses, even hidden ones, from
whatever system it infected, and propagated itself thru the listserv
without ever being attached to an official A-Kon message or being sent from
an official A-Kon computer system. It did not come from us, but the list
was used as some kind of pass-thru gate as it propagated itself.

The situation has been resolved. Our listserv was disabled, the problem
located and eradicated, and more securities put in place to prevent this
from occurring again. Just as a warning, DO NOT OPEN any attachments that
'say' they come in from us from the listserv. We normally do NOT put
attachments in our official newsletter emailings to the listserv, we use
extremely simple text based messages only, to allow the majority of users
to see the message, and also to be safe from such things. If we send
anything different, it would be a URL or LINK to another site (photo, more
info on a guest, a game group, one of our participating companies, etc.).

Thank you for your attention and we again, sincerely apologize for any
inconvenience.

Meri Hazlewood
Chairman"

How do I know if I had got the virus?

It would have had the file attached and you would have had to execute it.
