Well it's my first costume so I chose something relatively simple. I'm definately cosplaying as Chi from Chobits. I chose the most simple of her costumes, I haven't even seen any pictures cosplaying this costume oddly enough. Here are my reference pictures.

Here's the dilemma... why material should I be using? I know it can't be shiny but that's about it... Sorry for all the questions but I'm quite new to this.

Go to the fabric store and ask where the fabric for tenis dresses and the like are.

Hmm... maybe something simple, like a nice thick cotton that will make it easier to retain the puff towards the bottom like that? You might want to try just going to the store and checking out what they have available in that color- you might find some really neat fabric that would be lots of fun to work with!

I'd suggest a nice thick cotton as well. Maybe a suiting?
In any case.. you're definitely going to need a petticoat if you want the skirt to look as full as that picture there.

Here is pic I took at AWA of someone who did that dress for reference

Rethul, that's wonderful. I myself am new to making anime-related costumes. In fact, I haven't made a single one myself. As for the fabric, I believe that any matte fabric will do the trick. Cotton would be your best bet. For the different types of cotton fabrics and weaves, refer to this site:

http://www.fabrics.net/cotton.asp

They also tackle about other kinds of fabrics such as wool, linen and silk.

I would suggest that you use a petticoat, as mentioned above. It's the best way to get the fullness of the skirt.

Thanks for all the help. I'm definately going through with this. I'm going to use cotton as the main material and despite what the example Hikaru-chan showed me (thanks) I am using a darker red, and of course it won't be shiny.

Petticoat: If I finish the costume and it looks like I need it to get the desired effect then yes.

Well I better go find some materials, thread and some falls and I'll be in business
