Awwww. T.T I loved Shoujocon, and it was close by too. T.T Too bad. I wish everyone on the Staff would have had better luck. Looks like it's off to BAAF.

This makes me kinda sad. It was the only con out of Dixie that I have been to. I missed last year's due to academic orientation for my new school.

Guess I'll shop around for another con. This is the second year I do not go to a FL or GA con.

You're kidding, right?
I'd say that the odds are VERY low that BAAF will return.

I'll miss Shoujocon... I won't miss BAAF that much... (BAAF was expensive)

I'm not sure what I'm doing for 2005 yet--as of right now it's iffy about AB05 for me.

Iffy?! Everyone should go to Anime Boston! It's going to be amazing! Of course, I'm probably biased.

Patrick D: Oh, I didn't know BAAF wasn't returning either. Ugh. Noooo. T.T That means AnimeNext will be the only NJ, NY con with tons of ppl again. -_-;;;

Geez, this sucks. And I don't have much luck in out of state cons either. Well, since after Otakon. -_-;; Fine! XD AnimeExpo! That better not be closed. I want to go to Anime Boston. T.T Might not be going till 2006.

:/

No Shoujocon makes me sad, considering I was one of those who didn't attend in '03 (band camp...) so I feel kinda guilty. So instead, my boyfriend and I are hitting up Katsucon, since our other option Anime Boston is right before my final exams.

Wait wait, they just retracted their cancellation!

Actually, no...they only said it "is not dead just yet." They haven't announced any 2005 event, so it's not exactly alive and well either. Maybe it will die, maybe it won't. Unless they announce a date/location, I'd consider it in limbo.

They retracted the cancellation of "shoujocon 05 will never happen." I never said "shoujocon 05 WILL happen", I said there's hope.

But of course, I'd like to think it will. ^^

I guess even ex-SJC staff are getting kinda touchy on the subject o.o

I was talking to John(Jenner) and made a comment/joke about it kinda going downhill after he left and he like, got weird *can't think of the perfect way to describe it* on me.

Least there's hope now there'll be a Shoujocon in some form next year! but yes, I would gladly donate a few dollars to a cause like this.

Shoujocon needs some time to restructure. It's been through a lot these past few years. As well-intentioned as many of you are, a few dollars isn't going to cut it. Operational expenses for a modest-sized con are huge: starting around $10,000 and up. Much of that is dependent on the hotel/convention center billing. Smaller cons can get away with lower costs obviously.

If you feel that you want to donate anyway, you should contact SAS on the website and offer your support. It'll be left to the SAS to decide if accepting donations is worthwhile.

That's actually not bad. $10,000 for a con. I thought it started at $500,000. ^^;;;;;;;; Lol. Anyways! XD Off to find ppl to donate for it!

I'm confused. I read all the posts, and the message from Washington that was linked to one of the posts, but I'm still confused as to WHY it has to be cancelled. I know they are understaffed, but I don't think it'd be hard to find more people to work the Con. I myself have worked some pretty horrible jobs, so If I'm willing to work a bad job, I'm sure someone would want to work a decent job at the con. I assume start up costs are exepensive, but there are so many cons out there that manage to do it every year, I'd assume that they could pull this one off. Maybe they could raise the price of admission a little?

It was not the understaffing. The funds were not enough to hold the con. You can't just raise the admission price, because you need some money before the con starts.

Anyone know the current standings of SJC 2005 [if it's not going to happen, may happen, will happen] ? I've browsed the forums there and the website's message still hasn't changed.

I have also been wondering about Shoujocon. I check the webiste daily and I check here also. but I guess I should just try to be a little more patient.

Last word I heard was that Shoujo Arts Society, the parent organization of Shoujocon, will try to hold some small events in 2005, either in conjuction with another con or on their own. There was no specific mention of a Shoujocon 2005 yet, but given the time it takes to set up a con, having a full con is looking less and less likely.

I was not told what events were being planned.
