I have a problem with Jecht from FFX. He has all these scars, deep tan, and one heck of a tatto on his chest. What would be best? Get in a tanning booth and then getting some quality paint to make the tattoo and getting some makeup for scars? Or use a self-tanning spray and somehow try to get that tattoo with all those scars? I'm at a lost here, and I'm kinda far off from starting this costume, but I want to try to remedy this problem before I encounter it.

Eh, I wouldn't reccomend a tanning booth. But that's just me. ^___^ A spray tan would probably be better. Plus it's quicker - you don't need to sit there and bake. And less harmful for your skin, of course... And, although I'm not sure, I think it's less expensive.

I would get an airbrush tan from a salon that actually applied the color with a real airbrush. its more accurate. You can try the mystic tan booths, but it might take a couple tries to get it right. Then purchase some body paints and makeup setting spray from Ben Nye. you can create a stencil of your character's tatoo, and then paint it on and set it.

The scars are the fun part. It's easy to know what color to use with yor skin tone, but when you have a tan they look whiter.
