View Full Version : Idea for the Ultimate Anime Expo After Party.

Studmaster

They say that the best ideas come to you late at night, when everyone is sleeping, and you're awake and thinking.

As everyone knows, Anime Expo is the ultimate Otaku party for a lot of people, and with every good party, there is always an after party. However...What's a good after party for this event?

How about Las Vegas?

That's right, why don't we all get on a Bus after Anime Expo is all said and done, and head down to the city of sin for a 2-3 day after party like none other?

Reply if you like the idea.

katchoo
12-12-2002, 02:30 AM
hehe I love the idea! I will definitely have to watch my spending at AX, but I think it's a great way to continue the party and get to know each other outside of the cons.

yay stud!!

I usually go to Vegas/Reno BEFORE Anime Expo or any con. It's how I generate enough funds for the con itself (gotta love a good streak of blackjack and slots).

But I'd love to go to Vegas after AX. I will definitely set up some funds and time for it.

Yea, won't all your money be gone by the time the con is over?

Traveling is too expensive... I love Vegas, but there's just no way that would be practical for me. ;_;

katchoo
12-12-2002, 10:49 AM
Traveling there aside, the rooms should be incredibly cheap because a) it's a sunday - weekday stay and b) it's after a holiday weekend. I remember seeing the luxor for like $40/night during the week. Split amongst friends that will be seriously cheap!!!

Celine
12-12-2002, 10:53 AM
That's true. Most of the main Vegas hotels offer lots of summer deals as long as you go during the week. Last year, I stayed on the strip for $60 a night, and it was great. ^_^

RyuHayabusaDOA2
12-12-2002, 11:02 AM
I like it...so, in other words if I want to go to this....hmm..I guess I need to start saving up now...I guess at least $600-800 should be sufficient enough...

How about going to Disneyland after AX? ^_^

Celine
12-12-2002, 11:37 AM
Yeah, Disneyland would be cool! ^_^

Nietsche

Yay disneyland....wonder if they'd let me in as Sora?

RyuHayabusaDOA2
12-12-2002, 11:41 AM
Disneyland? Yeah. let's scare all the little children in ouyr costumes... that should be fun and do one big up yours at Dinsyey for delaying Hayao Miyazaki-sensei films!
That should be fun! :D-fa, fa, fa, fa!

Celine
12-12-2002, 11:48 AM
Sadly, like a few people have mentioned before, Disneyland is anti-costume and won't let you in... ^^ You'd either need to be in normal clothing or a costume so stealthy that they don't recognize it as a costume.

katchoo
12-12-2002, 12:02 PM
either way...but I would love to go to vegas still. hehe ^_^

I like Vegas, better than Disney, but I would be up for both.

It may end up being a week-long vacation for me at this rate.

For those of you interested:

Disneyland is like a block away from the convention center.
Knott's Berry Farm is about 10 minutes away (Buena Park).
And Magic Mountain (the best out of the three IMO) is about an hour away in Valencia.

Well, this is forming up nicely. Right now we have.

Anime Expo (Thursday - Sunday)
Disneyland/Knott's Berry or Magic Mountain (Sunday)
Las Vegas (Monday - Wedensday)?

This is shaping up to be a week long vacation.

Lilli

If New York is the city that never sleeps, then Las Vegas is the city that never blinks.

Just a note of caution though, do keep in mind that in Las Vegas, come early-mid July, temperatures being around 110-117 are pretty much the norm. (But honestly, once it gets past 110, it dosn't really MATTER anymore...) Poor Nietsche when he came to visit was like... dying ^^;;

But hey. That's what 3 am is for, right? :3 Still, I just want to take this time out to say 'Damn you all.' for waiting until a time when I'll no longer BE in Las Vegas... to have such a fun idea, LOL!!

On the bright side, yes, hotels are laughably affordable here pretty much year round :3 When it gets REALLY good, you can stay at a nice hotel for like $30, and it's just TOO sweet :3 But it does make me upset when I see like "$125/night convention rate" for a con (*coughcough*EASTCOASTCONS especially.) because living in Las Vegas, I know how ridiculous that price is, and it's insulting that they'd call it 'convention rate.' Ah well. The Magic of Vegas and all, I guess.

Edit: '...What was that, Branky? Did you just accuse me of not being able to spell?!? You did! *begins whapping the puppet on her hand against the wall violently*'

Celine
12-12-2002, 04:19 PM
Lilli- the weather may be hot, but it is WONDERFUL. I was there the last week of June this year, in the 110 degree weather, and I was soooo happy. It's not humid at all! So the heat is just happy, instead of unpleasant. ^_^ (yes, all this is coming from a Texan, so what do I know)

Here's a thought for people who want to go to Vegas directly after AX- if you bring your costumes, the photo opportunities are AMAZING. So much of Vegas is very interesting to look at and would make super awesome locations to get pics in costume. And Vegas is so strange that nobody really seems to care what you are wearing, no matter how weird it is.

stud: awesome. then you're on. Are there a lot more rules to blackjack than just trying to get close to or get 21?

Studmaster
12-12-2002, 04:46 PM
Well the basis of the game is to get to 21, but there is a LOT more invovled in Casino blackjack, like 'Insurance' and 'pushing', so there is a whole psychlogy to the game.

I'll be going to Atlantic City for a "refresher course" of sorts

enishi
12-12-2002, 05:03 PM
BTW, they give you free drinks when you gamble -- they're trying to alter your sense of judgment so don't have too much alcohol.

And I know a little bit about blackjack as well. There's 'Doubling Down' and 'Splitting' but I guess I can explain that later. It's mostly based on luck though.

Studmaster
12-12-2002, 05:06 PM
Very good for reminding me about DD'ing Enishi. IIRC It's when you put all your cash on the line after a victory for game of "higher card" between you and the house. If you win then you get double, if you lose...you lose.

Alaria
12-12-2002, 05:11 PM

Celine, please!!! I love it when the weather gets like that *-* OMG it's so awesome. It makes me warm all the way to inside my bones, it's like being surrounded in sunlight :3 *loses her trail of thought and purrs*

Eeeh. Anyway ._.; Ah... Oh! Yes ^^; For those who'd be UNDER 21, and so wouldn't want to drink/gamble their time away, there are still fun things to do! There are some clubs you can get into, they'll just stamp your hand or something. Also, the arcade at the Riviera is open 24 hours, and they've got DDR 2'nd/3'rd mix, and then some other version of DDR that's got like... just about every song on it ._.;

Things to do are in abundance :3 Especially in the summer time, hehe...

K_Valentine
12-12-2002, 06:14 PM
Someone teach me CRAPS! One time I placed $10 on a random part of the table and several rolls later I got $30. I was glad but I'd like to know what to do so I can actually play and maybe win some more.

enishi
12-12-2002, 06:47 PM
Studmaster: Doubling Down is when you double your wager and take one extra hit. So if you have a 5 and a 6 (11 total) and you bet $25, you add another $25 and take one hit. You may end up getting a face card which gives you 21.

Studmaster
12-12-2002, 06:51 PM
Thus I will need to go to Atlantic City ASAP. ^_^; Thanks for the correction.

Celine
12-12-2002, 07:38 PM
Yes, there is plenty to do for the not-yet-21 person... If all else fails, there are lots of pools. However, to be honest, Vegas is much more exciting when you can walk around going from casino to casino! And drinking! Wild and crazy mayhem for all!!! ...I so want to go back... gambling isn't for me, but everything else just rocks!

If a group goes, I highly recommend the Excalibur show. I've been twice, and although it's pricy, it's soooo fun. It's just like Medieval Times, if you've ever been there.

Alaria
12-12-2002, 09:33 PM
I've seen both, and I agree ^_^ Luxor's new show isn't that good, and the other shows are really pricey, although I really, really want to see "O" at one pt

Wow, all this information. There is so much to do in Vegas. ^_^
For all of those who been to the Casinos, which ones are the best?

enishi
12-12-2002, 09:48 PM
I went to Vegas a few months ago and they had some new casinos. Bellagio is nice, and so is the Venetian -- they have a lot of nice ones. But it doesn't really matter which one you stay at since most of them are pretty much within walking distance of each other.

Alaria
12-12-2002, 10:00 PM
well, I dunno about that, that's alot of walking O_o depends on what end of the strip ur at. If u stay somewhere like excalibur, walking to MGM, Luxor, Bellagio, Monte Carlo, is feasible, but stuff like Mirage, Treasure Island, Ballys, Circus Circus, in 110+ weather?? Prob not a good idea

katchoo
12-12-2002, 10:05 PM

Lilli
12-12-2002, 11:10 PM
Saaa ._. Well, if you like walking, then sure, you can walk from one end of the strip to the other :3 I forget how far from one end to the other it is, if anyone really cares I can go measure it tomorrow on my odometer. But, for people who havn't been, it sounds like the casinos would all be close to each other, which I guess technically they are, it's just that some of the casinos are like a mile long. Literally ^^; And that's just the physical casino, not counting the lands around it. (Hehe, the Bellagio's water... oi...) So even if you stay in the heavily populated area of the strip, it's still got to be -at least- 5, 6 miles from one end to the other. Mrrr, now I'm curious.

It's a nice walk :3 And at this time of the year, I'd say go for it XD But in July I know that personally I wouldn't do it during the day, just because I'd get a helluva sunburn. An ya, because it's hot and all, I wouldn't recommend it to people who weren't in very good physical condition, either.

I've booked my room for AX, and then for a few days afterwards because my bro & I plan to go to Dland on the Monday after AX. (I'll be staying 6 nights at the closest motel next to the convention center) This year, 2k2, a few of my friends (Nadeshiko, Michi, Van) and others went to Dland the next day, and we had fun :) (There's a few pics at the end of AX2002-Sunday if you want to check them out.) For 2003, I will stay at AX until the ending (since it's IN Anaheim like it was back in 2000) I'll be there for closing ceremonies, and then cruising the streets of Anaheim Sunday night (if I'm still alive..) and then Dland on Monday. :)

For those members who plan to go to Dland on Monday after AX, we should meet up for a cosplay.com photoshoot INSIDE the park, so we can get members together when they're NOT in costume.. ;)

Costumes in D-land? I think I could get away with Shinji or Trowa, although i'll boil in those come noon-time.. But it would be a challenge to take pics next to Dland landmarks on on the rides, so we'll see. :)

I have not been to Vegas in a long time. The last time I've went was back in 1995. There's hotels I want to see, and if I was even legaler, I'd try my hand at poker. ^_^; Yup, I've played poker a few times during residential community casino nights. I've got lucky. I'll think about the after party scheme. Although I plan taking summer school courses. (must graduate in 4 years! damn GE's, can't I just take major classes all four years?) Yup, I was there for the Disneyland madness! Hm...cosplay at Disneyland...I would go as my Lolita Persocom, but it's really frilly on the inside. I think I can get away with Pepper, since the peasant get up is in style. Only problem is, I'll be pulling a Marilyn Monroe each time a breeze comes in.

So yeah, I'll be living in SoCal this summer. Plans can change. I'll think about it. Everything is too early for me to plan. I still have to book a flight for ACen!

Oooh the last time I was in Vegas it was a ton of fun. :D I was actually there for a CoCo Lee concert at the Mandalay Bay... my that's a lovely hotel. It was *so* luxurious. XO

Though I did go a bit overboard, since it was my real chance to gamble I lost almost $200 a day at the Blackjack table... yah I suck, but I had fun doing it. ;) Only place on earth where you can lose tons of money and not feel ripped off. :> Oh yah, this was before my cosplay obsession... and I had actual money to spend...

<sigh> I'm afraid I probably won't go to Vegas after the con, though Disney Land may be a better option for me. :)

Poker is better. With blackjack, no matter how many people are at the table, its bottom line you against the dealer.

In Strip Poker, the person with the lowest hand loses...so make sure you dont fold ^_^

Draw poker, Holdem, or Ohama are the best types of poker to gamble with clothes, IMO...

I would love to join in on that, and vegas....I would go but, I"m only 20 and my b-day is not till the 21 of july and I am trying to hide from about four people that want to celebrate it....wish I dont want to do. But in anycase, studmaster count me in on the other events I guess. I think I will have to go over funding and do some more work now but hell I am giong to love this.

Wow this sounds awesome, I would definently be down for a Vegas trip. Blackjack is my game too, last time I went I came back $100 up just from Blackjack, just dont play at the Orleans, the rules there really favor the dealer.

As far as the Amusement Park thing Goes, I vote for Magic Mountaiin cause I am a rollercoaster freak, Let me know what is happening whin details start to get hammered down.

So any plans cemented yet for this whole after party thing? If not when should we start planning it all for sure?
