I bought an official Ebisu toy from Bandai and tried to model my costume after it (Had most of the clothing in just the right color) but after watching for him in subsequent episodes I noticed something. The toy was navy blue... his costume is black (faded black to be exact).

Now, I am stuck with an Ebisu costume (using the crappy toy headbands and a navy blue head scarf) with patches on the shoulders but the wrong color. I could reorder the patches and attempt a black outfit (need a black headscarf etc).

Couple with that the toy has the heel slightly cut out of his sandals. The screen shots I have seen seem to have a continuity error. He has the sandals with the heel slightly open only to have in an another scene have it closed.

So the questions are...
If you did a costume based on an official toy (3d model is better than screen caps) but found out that the color is the different shade, is it still a good costume? In a dimly lit room, it would look perfect. Under bright light, it would be rather noticeable.

Which is it on the sandals? Open or closed heel?

In a dimly lit room, it would look perfect. Under bright light, it would be rather noticeable.

Keep in mind, I am new to the cosplay making so I was picking a low maintainence costume to start with (He was also about the right age. Dare I attempt Naruto, it would look like he turned 18 and went on a bender of ramen, sake, and forced to watch Adam Sandler movies.)

Ebisu wears black? o_O Im sure he wears navy blue...

Anyways, sewing a costume based on a 3D toy isn't bad. I would say its still a good costume really. As long as the colours aren't totally different or else the costume wouldn't look much like the 'real' thing as refering to the anime.

Open heels.

Hopes this helps.

People do different variations. I did Kakashi in black before and it was still accurate. Black or navy blue is fine. :)

The colors are exactly the same in the clothing. But, due to the different shades on the anime, its hard to get a read. If you see Ebisu with Naruto in the 2nd episode, Naruto is noticeably blue compared to Ebisu. But, he's a dull black vs blue. Its all about perception. Holding my costume up to the TV, he's black. To the toy, he's blue.

Thanks for your responses.
