This will be my second year attending AWA. Last year was a bust since my group ditched me halfway through the day. X_x;

Any Atlantan cosplayers going to AWA? Who are you Cosplaying as?

Im thinking Vash the Stampede...but not sure ^^;

Since I live in Kennesaw, which is very close to the hotel and galleria center, I'm trying to convince my parents to take me there, and it just might work out.^.^
Okay, so the cosplay:
9/23:Rin(Inu Yasha)
9/24:Princess Kaguya,(Inu Yasha the movie 2)
9/25:Ichigo Momomiya, wedding dress(Tokyo Mew Mew)
I'm not very sure which one I to do for the costume contest (though it could be Rin).

I WILL go to AWA this year. This is the con I would not miss for ANYTHING in the whole world. As soon as I get a full-time job, I WILL ask for that weekend off again. Though I will have more money to stay at the main hotel, it is still highly tempting to stay at the little cheap hotel 5 minutes away that has free breakfast. I know for sure whom I'm cosplaying. Sure sure, many things can change from today till late September. Hence I'm skittish about buying tix or making reservations so early.

I'll likely go if I don't go to Dragon*con. As for costumes, likely I'd just wear the best stuff from over the year.

I'm not really sure if I'm going or not. It's looking like (at the moment) that it will have to be a choice between AWA and Dragon*Con, and it's a pretty obvious choice for me. I have to take Intro to Quantum in the fall, so I can't miss many days. I've pared back on my cosplay this semester, also, because I have some difficult classes.

I will be attending AWA once again this year. This is the convention that I seem to have the most stories to tell about. As for what I'll be cosplaying, I have no idea yet...anything but cardboard...that stuff gets hot.

2005 might be my first AWA because I am transfering to a local school in Florida. My boyfriend wants to take me.

I will wear Verona to that, but that is all I know as of yet. =^_^=

I plan on going to AWA. Not sure who I'm going to cosplay though. I thought about going for Black Rose from .Hack  , which is definitely going to take a LOT of patience, but I'm still giving it a shot. Never been to a con before so it should be interesting!

This will be my first AWA. I've been going to Dragon Con for 10 straight years and I was always just burnt out when AWA popped up because Dragon Con was usually a few weeks prior, and I was still exhausted. Still now that I have a group of local cosplay folks to hang out with, I will be at AWA. Not sure what I'm cosplaying yet, probably anything that didn't make the Dragon Con schedule, hehe.

I'm going this year too! Last year was a lot of fun since I met a lot of fun people. Don't really have an idea on who to cosplay though beside RH Daishi from PLC. I might do a Utena character and Loz from FF7AC too!

I'm going to AWA! I'm waiting on the con rates to be posted before reserving a room though.. Not sure who I'm going to cosplay as.. I know I'm bringing Pimp Seifer and Muraki... If I get one of my Dir en Grey costumes finished, I'll bring that as well... Also going to be Draco Malfoy for awhile at the con.

I ought to be at AWA this year. If all goes to plan, I'll be cosplaying in a Mortal Kombat group as Scorpion and in a Street Fighter group as Ibuki (Ninja-ing it up!). I doubt I'd have time for a third costume, but I've been dying to make one of one of the ghost brothers from Naruto, but we'll see. I'm also hoping to run a game of D&D: Oriental Adventures (so if you're a role player, or just interested in it, lemme know :D).

About the Mortal Kombat group, I think we still need a Rain, Smoke, and Ermac- incase any of you guys are interested.

Wow your 8th or 9th year? It will only be my 5th. And I have been going to AWA since the very first year I started going to cons, which would be 2001. AWA is my absolute favorite convention that I attend every year. I always have the most fun and experience the most stuff in it. Hopefully this year there will be no hurricanes.

Well, I might be going even though I have to raise the money myself and find some trustworthy girls to room with...(Please PM me about this)

But my guy would be there, so I'd prolly do this-
Fri-Dracula (Van Helsing) in the daytime, Ballgown Anna (Van Helsing) for the ball
Sat-Moriarity (LXG)-Scary in the daytime, Bishônen in the evening
Sun-No clue if I should do my kimono or EGL...

heh, if your having problems like that this far in advance drackt, your best bet is going to be to go ahead and join up with the Peach State Cosplay Society...
we car pool, share rooms, meet up about once every month or so for photoshoots or to randomly invade public areas such as malls, ren fairs, or otherwise unsuspecting mundane areas in full cosplay, that whole deal.

Although if you want a room with all girls, cant really help you there...
This far in advance, you would have time to get to know us and more importantly,
you would have enough time to get on our members roster so you can 'Actually' room with us rather than trying to find cosplayers from Cosplay.com to room with, when we have at least 95% of them already...

I'll be at AWA this year. It's my first time going. I know I'll be cosplaying as Kikyo one day and I fully plan to also have finished my costume of Midori from Midori no Hibi. There are a couple others I'd like to get done by then, but I'm just going to have to wait and see if they'll be feasible.

I've recently decided that I'll be going as Sakura from Sakura Taisen 2. The battle uniform is the outfit of choice! ^_^ That will only be one of my costumes though. I'm also planning to do either Kaoru Kamiya or Tomoe Yukishiro from Rurouni Kenshin. Only time will tell. *cackle*

scandia
04-17-2005, 05:20 AM
Wow, Sakura's battle uniform. I had bought the materials to make Kouran's....but then fell in love with Oscar and decided that hers would be the military uniforms to make. Do Kaoru, cause I don't like Tomoe cause she's too submissive and docile and soft. Kaoru kicks arse on the other hand and wears the pants in the family, hehe. Plus she's more HYPER!

Regarding my costumes, I only know for certain that I will bring one of my two Oscar uniforms. I like blue better than red, but the red Colonel one is fancier than the blue Commandant one. I'll likely wear Zelda again, because it gets me a lot of attention. For the ball I'll just rewear one of my older big poofy dress style costumes.

hyperperson
04-17-2005, 12:46 PM
yeah, kaoru would be my first choice. my friends say that im exactly like her anyways. i had thought about doing tomoe because my friend who wanted to go as kenshin was thinking of doing samurai x batousai instead and we had wanted to coordinate. but i finally convinced my friend to do regular kenshin instead. so kaoru it is! ^_^ this will be my 2nd kaoru costume so im gonna do my best to make it even better than the 1st!

I didn't notice any drama last year, but then again, I'm coming from a different state so I wouldn't be as involved. Here's to hoping you have a better weekend this year :)

I'm not sure what I'm doing for costumes yet. I wanted to bring back my Eiji from last year, but I was asked for permission to display it in their cosplay gallery, so she'll be on a dressform all weekend instead. The only other major costume I have planned this year is KosMos, so I'll definately her. I might bring Beatrix back, and maybe my Izumi Curits from FMA, but it's not like there isn't some 5 months to decide :P

I have been treated well by AWA staff. In 2003 someone stole my ball ticket, but they remembered my purchasing it and let me in anyway. I had a small scare when they took my purse out of the ball floor, but they were doing it so that nobody else would steal it. In 2002 they majorly messed up in not having water in the cosplay contest area- but they did bring me a glass of water when I nearly got dehydrated. And they learned their lesson- afterwards every corner has a water station. Last year they even asked me if I was going to the ball cause they remembered me from the previous year. And they have been very helpful in the message boards regarding ball dress code, AMVs, and food places.

I *might* be going, it depends on:
-if we don't move to Middle-of-Nowhere, CA
-Actually reserving a room
-Finding an adult to drive me there
-Finding a friend who will willingly go with me AND cosplay

Yes, there's a 50/50 chance I'll go, but if I *do* go it'll be my first con and I'll probably be in a kimono one day, and then maybe Aika from SoA the next.

Drifter where do you live. If you join up with the Peach State Cosplay society then you can probably find someone to ride with and share a room with and hang out with people you know. I also see you are making a Shampoo costume ::big smile:: If you find out you are going to AWA you might want to join my Ranma 1/2 group on Saturday. We are planning a photoshoot. I have one photographer who I hope won't flake out on me and I am working on getting one more plus everyone is welcomes to bring their own cameras.

Here is the link http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=55463

I am also hoping that everyone will want to go eat dinner together(order pizzas, go out to eat, whatever) and then watch whatever movie they are planning on showing then go to watch the costume contest.

So how's everyones costumes coming along?

I started on my boyfriends Ranma costume. I am almost done with the pants. I forgot to buy the elastic so I didn't get a chance to finish it ><;

I also learned to pay attention to which side you sew the pants together. I ended up sewing two right legs and had to take one apart(which took an hour with that hand seam ripper). I wish the instructions would have said something and not assumed though ><;

Well, I did rework some costume aspects for AWA.

I improved the sash of Oscar's Commandant costume. Plus I made sure everything was in place and not likely to fall off. So this time it will look even more regal.

I finished Rosalie today. I plan to first wear it on Friday at Metrocon. But it is so comfortable, that I may wear it on the Friday of AWA as well in order to celebrate my new favorite series. Sure sure, Zelda gets me A LOT of attention and is not particularly uncomfortable. But it has so many aspects that could fall off that I need to be extremely careful with it.

This week has been pretty much entirely dedicated to cosplay. I have not had much time for costumes this year due to school and my jobs. But since I am on vacation from school until next Monday, I can do costume work for a short time.

That reminds me, I need to send my AMV contest entries. I wish they would put up this year's rules- even though the forum says they have not really changed except for the address and media accepted. I wanna make sure my AMVs get played.

My main costume for AWA changed, from Kilik (Soul Calibur II) to Ivy (Soul Calibur). Good fabric find caused this.

Aside from that I have no idea what I'm bringing, but likely one of my FMA outfits. Maybe Squall if I feel like it.

Hah, I'm sure my friends would be ok with that.

I'm not sure what day, but I'm definately doing a Rock Lee cosplay at AWA. I'll probably(if everyone gets their costume done) be walking around with a Tsunade, Naruto, and Temari.

But oh man, that sounds fun. x)

I'm going to AWA! I'm not sure if I'm going to have any costumes, since I just have costumed planned and not made yet. That, plus I'm still debating on if I'm going to match my friend's Kaitou Jeanne costume with Fin/Finn Fish.

I really want to go, come hell or high water (which, in fact, did happen last year and kept me in ATL an extra day).

God willing, if my venerated employer, Publix Super Markets, sees fit to allow me time off to go to Atlanta for AWA, even after taking a weekend off for Kunicon ATL, a weekend off to go to the Dear Friends concert (and hopefully booking it back to Tampa in time for Metrocon's costume contest), and a scheduled week in Las Vegas, I will pledge them my eternal fealty, work there until I am dead, and shop nowhere else for the rest of my life.

I plan to reprise my role as Rock Lee, which I did Saturday of last year's AWA, and for Kunicon MIA/ATL. Maybe I'll update it for pt.2 with a one of those snazzy vests and chase around all the Sakura cosplayers, winking at them and blowing kisses and whatnot. Then, chances are one of them will yell at me, and I'll get depressed and start hitting the sauce and end up showing everyone my Drunken Fist! Or not. Yeah, probably not. >'.'a<

So now, when am I going to start going to cons regularly? I really need to get away from everything now... :waaaah:

Sure, there's room for more than one Rock Lee at AWA, right?

I foresee two possibilities. One - coming face-to-face with another Rock Lee could put us into shock and we'd simply pass out. Or two - the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe. Granted, that's the worst case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.

I tend to go to AWA sporatically, so I'm never sure whether I'm going until a few months before the con. This year I will be making it, though possibly not for the entire time. We'll have to see.

Cosplays include:

Me -
Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh
Mishima Reika from RahXephon
Possibly Asuka Langley from Evangelion
Mireille Boquet from Noir
Tsunade from Naruto

Commissioned for others -

Kankuro from Naruto
Jiraiya from Naruto

I may throw in a few others, but we'll have to see as it gets closer to con time.

Since I don't really have a costume for sunday I am thinking of eaither a Chii cosplay or Lust. I figure with my skin tone a super light blond wig would look horrible but I think a darker blond one would be ok. Lust has the dark hair so all I would have to do is clip in some extentions. I don't know it depends. I think chii would be more fun, buy some new panties and put them on my head.

I'm sorry to bring up bad memories. But I am always careful when I drive, the key is not to panic and just hit it head on, is what I was told. It will tear up the car but you won't get that hurt when it happens.

Stuff to remember

Read the rules (http://www.awa-con.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=4432) thoroughly
Bring good reference pics that are 5x8 or 8x10 (and you will not be getting it back)
Have alot of patience
Don't come with the notion that you're gonna do a skit
READ THE RULES AGAIN
Legibly fill out your entry form (http://www.awa-con.com/fileadmin/Special_Events/CostumeContest2005_ver3.pdf)

I had a good experience. The only suck part was line up for the costume contest... the waiting... and waiting. But it was because ppl the audience took forever to get seated. They do prejuding earlier in the day. Then the actual runway show at night.

It's always better to reserve a room months in advance because there are some people who will reserve a room as much as 6 months in advance to make sure they get a room. Right after I made my reservation at the waverly rennesaince they were all booked up a week later and the was 3 months in Advance.

Its not skit based at all, though you're given about a minute to 'present' the costume. A Hellsing group last year did battle poses against one another, which was pretty cool.

Definitely bring a reference image, because they will project the image on a screen behind you as you walk on stage (helping those in the audience indentify your character).

The judging process is good, you go into a room, those with overly large costumes (or groups) are allowed into the front of the line, while the rest just file in as they can. There are plenty of seats, and they supply bottled water and bagels to those waiting. The room was freezing, which I guess is good since there were so many in the room. My friend and I waited until the very end to be judged, and we were in there for a good three hours waiting.

I didn't really miss much of the con while being in pre-judging, you get out with plenty of time to kick back, do whatever you want, etc.

Hello everyone, I just joined cosplay.com yesterday but, I just wanted to write in to say Iam going to AWA 11 this year. It will be my third year at AWA this year and my first time cosplaying. Iam more then likely going to buy my own costume because Iam still teaching myself how to sew. I will more then likely go as Sailor Mars and my friend will go as sailor Jupiter. If things dont work out with my costume, then her Mom will probably make mine as well as hers. Oh, now that I think about it, is anyone going to the Time Travelers Ball?

I'm heading an 'UUUUUUUUUGE Jrock/JPop/EGL photoshoot-type thing on Saturday after the contest judging. Everyone is welcome!!! :D The official topic is on the PSCS board ^.^

~Ari-chan

Looks like I'll be wearing my new EGL saturday, then. I'm not sure if I can do cosplay on friday since I'm not getting there until later in the day due to class. Might do pirate Forte or Juri then. I guess regular Forte will be sunday?

Oh yeah, and are there any other kinds of jewelry that people would be interested in buying besides EGL crowns and Aeris necklaces? I'm at a loss. =/ The booth I'll be at is #65, if anybody wants to stop by and say hi.

Good question. I know they do the shoot on the Grand Staircase. Other than that I dunno. I wish there were some Cosplay.com private photo shoots. Heck anyone. Hardly anyone ever goes to the TN, Bama, or GA conventions to do that kind of thing. Guess too far to travel or no thinks there no interest. So jealous of the west coast and east coast conventions in that respect.

I have been talking to a few semi pro photographers to see if they would have interest in coming to AWA. One says that they are going to do a photoshoot for the Ranma 1/2 group I set up on Saturday. I have been keeping in touch. I also met another one through OMP that seems interested in this kind of stuff too. So if you guys are serious about getting some shots done then maybe I can talk them into setting up an area to do photoshoots.

I am looking for someone to dress as Inuyasha's mother at thr moment too. I would be soo greatful if you could set me up a shoot for that weekend.

Well, a photo shoot would be great. I know one photographer, but he isn't sure if he's coming to the con this year. A meetup for cosplay.com members would also be nice, but I don't know many georgia cosplayers so I think it would be better if someone who's local did the meetup instead of me. Basically, somebody just needs to talk to AWA staff and ask if it's okay to do the meetup as a panel. If you are able to get the photographers to do shoots it would be nice to have one either at the end of the panel or right after with everyone in it.

My cosplay group is going, Fighting Dreamers. We have about 25 people in our cast, and we're still looking for more. Most of live in either Nashville or Atlanta, so we'll definetly be at AWA. (Most of us go every year.)

Lee-san, our Rock Lee decided to be another character, so we need a new Lee. If you're interested, our website's www.fightingdreamers.org.

I look forward to seeing all the Naruto cosplayers this year :toothy: (and multiple Lees! wheee!)

I've pretty much scrapped (or at least, postponed indefinately) my Ibuki and Scorpion projects, and instead I'll hopefully be going as one of the Demon Brothers (that's if I actually get around to doing it)

*sigh*....mabey I should just get a Shikamaru costume commissioned....at least with him I would be in-character by nature.....

my going is a pending deal (though it's very likely that I will attend) I'm not an Atlantian but my sister will be so I'm staying with her. who I'm cosplaying as... (prone to change due to completion or any incodents that come up)

-Kurapika (Hunter x Hunter)
-Keiko (Yu Yu Hakusho)
-Michiru (Air)
-Jin (Yu Yu Hakusho)
-Hanajima (Fruits Basket)
-Kagura (Fruits basket) (though most likely only for a half-day or so at the most)
-Shroom Lizzeh (everyone at Az 05' kept asking me "what anime are you from?" but surprise it's just a fun costume I put together ^^;; )

Can't remember if I've already replyed or not :-P but my cosplay group (St. Claire Cosplay) and I will be heading for AWA from our various locations.

Together we'll be cosplaying X/1999 as Karen, Nekoi, Satsuki (a few of our guy friends may join in),
Miyuki-chan in Wonderland as the Cheshire Cat, Miss Bunny, and the Doormouse (another friend is joining in as Miyuki-chan),
and what we have deemed the "Bumblee bee girls" from a Hyeung Tae Kim picture.

On top of that I'm going to be Luna from Tales of Symphonia and Dancer from FFT (for a group with two guy friends), and another member will be Black Lady from Sailor Moon.

Room's booked, transportation planned, we're ready to go ^^

Costumes I'm doing are..
Friday: Kingdom Hearts Heartless and Dark Vash
Saturday: FFX Shiva (it's going to be SO much better then my old one *shudder*) and another secret one if I can get it done.

Are there any shoots going on for that kind of stuff?

Lessons learned:
get a room at the con hotel

My name is Lauren and I'm going to AWA this year. It will be my first con, although I've been a huge anime fan for going on 10 years now. I was supposed to go AWA 6 or 7 but I chickened out because I was so young. I want to be familiar with as many people as possibly can!! ^_^ I've done lots and lots of cosplay, but nothing to a convention or for a competition.

So, could all of you tell me a little more about how the convention's costume contest actually works? From my understanding, you basically go on stage, pose, leave. Is that about right? Don't worry, I don't have any stage fright, because I do a lot of acting, but I just want to be aware before I get up there and totally screw up~ @_@

Woo! I'm going. My mom is going to be with me and this is her first time at a con. I'm sure she's going to be creeped out by somethings/people. XP My aunt might come with us too. ^_^
As for cosplay, I'm planning to bring my Edward Elric costume. I'm hoping to bring my automail but as of now it doesn't look like its going to be finished. >_<

What, seriously?

!*Jessi-Chan*!

Oooo LaLa: No problemo, sweetie! =)

Atasha: Nothing wrong w/ the mom's tagging along! lol (or the aunts) This will be my mom's third con and she still doesn't get over the shock of seeing guy's in dresses! It's always so funny watching her do all those double-takes... My friend's mom and aunt are way more..."understanding" then my mom. They take pictures and everything while MY own mother stares at people and whispers to my sister about a lot of odd things. I just laugh at them.

Everyone's finishing their AWA stuff while I...have not. We're probably going to ride around all Friday looking for a hotel...as usual. I'll finish pieces of my unfinished costumes on Thursday...as usual. And I'll spend all my money for food in the dealer's room...as usual. My camera will probably die and I'll have to pay six dollars for batteries...as usual. Atleast i'll have fun!!!

This sucks!! Looks like I will not get to go to AWA unless By some miracle I can get like $600 for Everything. I am still going to make my costume though and Keep my hotel reservation in case I do get to go.

Thanks for the welcome Jessi!!

Ann, that really stinks. I really hope that you get to go!

I'll be there!! Woot! I'm so glad there's an AWA thread now ^^ Dunno how long it's been here but still XD. I am not sure what I will be cosplaying. It will probably be easy stuff, things I have the fabric here for or that the stuff is not expensive to get. I have a biiiig cosplay I have been wanting to do but I don't think it would be able to get done by AWA.

I think I'm going to AWA! It'll be my first con ever too! I'm totally psyched. I think I'm gonna go as Rikku and if not, one of my own characters. I dunno if I wanna go totally extreme for my first ever.

*squee* I'm so excited! It was a lot of fun last year so this year I'm sure it'll be a blast!

I'm gonna be heading to AWA as well it seems, not sure which costumes i'll bring out, or whether or not i'll drag the bots along, but either way it'll be fun i'm sure. ^^
Hmmm, maybe I should finish that armor costume I've been planning.

Looks like I'm not going after all. My friend that lived near New Orleans made it out in time before the Hurricane hit but they lost everything so I am going to try to help her get back on her feet again. Besides... there are more important things than an Anime Convention like Friendship and Family.

Hell's yeah I'll be going. This'll be my fifth year. I was going to do Anji Mito, but I changed my mind at the last moment, and am going to be doing Ichigo from Bleach in his Ban Kai mode. It's going to be awesome!!!

*sigh* I've been putting this off, but I have to tell you all that I can't make AWA after all. There is a conflict with chorus, and being in it is more important. There's supposed to be a big Trigun meet-up on Saturday. My friend Nicole is going as Wolfwood, her boyfriend is going as Millie, Robert is going as Meryl, and Jessica is going as Knives.

It all started off with me & Nicole & just grew into this huge crossplay Trigun group. ^_^ It's great! I'll be the femme Vash in the business suit type thingy, say hello if you see me!

Just wanted to pop my head in and say "Hi" since we are getting so close. I'm the Special Events director for AWA. That means I run the Ball, Costume Contest, Cosplay Gallery, and the Cowboy Bebop Lounge.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Email is fine if you prefer, I'm not trying to hijack the thread...

A few points real quick (answers to things I found in this thread):

The Ball is Friday night, Bebop Lounge is Saturday.

Over 500 tickets presold for the Ball, much larger room this year. The room holds 800, so there will be plenty of tickets available at the door. It's being held in the Ballroom in the Cobb Galleria Convention center. We will have the wonderful String Quartet back with us. Our Rose seller and Photographer will be back as well. It's a Time Traveler's Ball, so expect everything from Waltzes to Swing (although probaby not much past that). Dress code is Black Tie as always. Cosplay encouraged, as long as it's formal.

Costume Contest Judging Saturday at 12pm, Contest at 8pm. I'm changing the Judging a bit so it should go faster. I'm assigning the Judges to look for certain things and they will be rating on a point system. Sixteen trophy categories this year, plus whatever certificates the Judges come up with. A load of prizes are on their way from various companies to go with those. Our consuite provides bottled water and snacks for the Judging.

The Cosplay Gallery (our museum style exhibt for previous Costume Contest winners) has moved to the Convention Center. We will be in room 102, next to the Art Show.

If there is anything else anyone has questions about, just let me know.

Yeah i know people liek that to. My mind set is it really depends on the costume and what exactly you need to worry about the prive, and theres always those lovely jo-anns cupons that save me tons of money when I use them (I always try to save as much as I can on costumes since I always do so many, lol)

I usually spend about $100 on mine, which is why I rarely do more than one major costume a year.

yeah same here, fortunately my seamstress is a family friend so both my alucard and brain guy outfits only cost me about 200 in labour

as for AWA, I wrecked my car today, possibly totaled, so I'm not sure if I can make it. ugh, i'm gonna feel this tomorrow mornin for sure :sulk:

I think they may have commissioned an outfit? Depending on the costume, and what props are included, $600 may be very reasonable.
