New York, NY --

Shoujo Arts Society and Yuricon LLC have announced their brand-new,
all-encompassing convention highlighting all manga and anime by, for,
and about women: Onna!

Onna! will take the ideas behind Shoujocon and Yuricon, two separate
conventions focusing on women in anime and manga, and promote them in
a single setting. Onna! will showcase anime and manga of all types:
shoujo, Boys' Love, josei, shounen, and yuri, from the sweetest of
fluff to the darkest of melodrama and everything in between. Onna!
will also offer a Western track of programming, featuring women's
comics and animation from the US and Canada, as well as women who work
in these and other related fields.

Onna! will be open to all ages, and both men and women who are
interested in anime, manga, or comics with a positive female
perspective.

For Shoujo Arts Society and Yuricon LLC, the partnership reflects their
shared interest in women's roles in animation and manga, as well as a
means for both organizations to continue to bring fans of women's
manga and anime a convention based on the East Coast.

Onna! happens Columbus Day weekend, October 8 to 10, 2005, at the Hilton
Gateway in Newark, NJ.

Better read this:

The con will only be open to the general public if there are any open slots remaining after March 31, 2005. Until then, registration is limited to those on their mailing lists, mailing groups, and forums. They only have 450 slots.

But, it's a good sign that this specialty convention is still alive.

Hmmm...it's fairly close to where I live, but I'll be in college by then, and there might not even be slots available...

I actually GO to school in Newark, so I'm really hoping there will still be slots for us random folk!

Now to get this forum out of the archives and into the proper locale with a name change.

-_-;

Just for clarification, since the title of this thread is not accurate...

Onna! is an entirely new convention...not the reincarnation of Shoujocon. Yuricon and Shoujocon have joined forces to bring us all Onna!

Yes, we are limited to 450 slots, etc. as Eriol stated. Keep your eye on the website for updates though, because if there are slots left, that'll be the first place it's announced. (And the website is also the MOST accurate source of information about Onna!)
