I know you can get a custom sailor moon wig from fifimahoneys.com - only problem is, it's like $160. ._. If it wasn't for the far-out price I probably would have gotten a pink one by now...

The do-it-yourself odango works, i've done it lotsa times :)
Just make sure you're using a kind of thick hair band for the second...if its small, your knot can fall down ;_;

depending on how long/thick ur real hair is, u can also use all ur hair for the odangos and then use extensions for the rest, but a wig is the easiest way to go

I got a cheap sailor moon wig from a local costume shop for about $8 wholesale, or $16 after they added the shop-fee. It had the long tails, but no Odango, so I constructed mine out of some fancy bejewels and styrofoam balls. The result is questionable, but it was okay for a first try. I'd rather have a nicer wig, or use my own hair, but I'm just not coordinated enough to get it to work. o_x; Anyway, you can see the wig in my gallery, it's only so-so.

That's the same technique I used! I can't do it anymore now that I have short hair ;.; Oh well, I'll live! :)

When I had longer hair, I used a different approach which requires less hair than the above method, which I never had any luck with:

Part your hair down the center.

Use a scrunchie to keep the half you're not working on out of the way.

Use a small rubberband to pull back a small amount of hair on top of your head, like when you pull the top of your hair back. This will be the ponytail part of the Odango.

This is the tricky part. Take the rest of the hair you did not use on that side, and pull it into a ponytail under the rubberband. Twist the hair and wrap it around the rubberband to make the Odango part. Pin the bun in place.

Repeat the process with the other half of your head.

Spray liberally and put your hair jewels on.

Also, having wet hair helps, and I could do this with hair that was about shoulder length. More hair makes more liberal odango, but it works for me. (Not anymore, tho, I don't have time to take care of long hair anymore.)

If you're going to use a wig, the easiet way to make odango is to use styrofoam balls, then paper mache them, then paint them the color of the hair. Then wrap hair extentions around them and seal them in place with elmer's gel glue. Then you can pin, sew, or glue them onto a wig. Then put long extentions around the odango with a rubber band.

Here is an example of that method with JunJun hair. The only difference is, this required some hair to stick out at the end.

It still needs a little more glue to hold down stray ends, but you get the idea ^_^
