View Full Version : so how's the weather?

Just because I feel like cluttering up our shiny new forum with lots of threads. :D

For those of us coming from out of town, how has the weather been in the Twin Cities lately, and what does it look like on the long range forecasts for next week? I know a week out they won't be all THAT accurate, not till about Tuesday or Wednesday, but it would be nice to speculate as to whether I'll need a coat for my travels and whether driving to the Mall of America would be a good thing thanks to chilly weather.

Not to mention I have to keep an eye on my armor and not leave it in sun-drenched cars, because the heat WILL warp it...

I've been wondering that, too. Oh well, tomorrow I'm actually going to the cities (from about five hours away) for a Speech tournament in school. I guess I'll get to see for myself! It feels so weird, knowing that in a week, I'll be back, being my true geeky self. ^_^ Wow, I'm excited.

fricken' freezing... but I hear it's getting better.

define "fricken' freezing"

Gothic_Catboy
03-04-2005, 12:59 PM
The temperature at which wearing less than three layers of clothes is idiotic, hat and gloves are strongly recommended, but not manditory, though you do risk freezing them. Stay indoors and take tunnels to get to your location.

fricken' freezing is one above "God hates us" cold, and one below "Tis a bit nipply."

So like Europe is at the moment with 20C and 2 feet of snow?

CapsuleCorp
03-04-2005, 09:24 PM
Wow, for a Minnesotan, you're weak, Catboi! ;) (just joshin' with ya) It's in the 30's and 40's F this weekend in Madison, but there's talk of plunging to the 20's by Thursday, which is the day I head out. Thank goodness no storms will be coming that day. But beyond that I can't really look at my own local forecast to tell me about the weekend.

Mucai
03-04-2005, 10:02 PM
20F? um... -7C. *dies*

It's 15.6C outside at the moment and a little chilly. It was 32.2C 2 days ago.

The closest temp I can get for Minnesota without having to poke around the internet is Chicago.

According to the weather chanels website:

Thursday: 29 F

Friday: 30 F

Saturday: 32 F

Sunday: 37 F

now this may be the Minnesotan in me...but that's not bad

Mucai
03-04-2005, 10:38 PM
hmm... well 32F = 0C... Not so good for having just come out of summer.

call it getting ready for winter. :>

I ain't a Minnesotain... I'm a former Milwaukeean who just doesn't like wearing lots of clothing to go outside.

It looks like it will be warming up a bit at least. The snowcover seems to be disappearing. Does anyone know if the hotel has a courtyard to cool off in?

CapsuleCorp

Good call GreenFire...that is pretty good. 37 by Sunday, yayness!

Do you guys have a lot of snow up there at all? We had some on the ground down here, but if it's 50 tomorrow it's gonna be all gone. (THANK GOODNESS) I just want it to be spring.

Poor Caloris! Coming all the way from summer into the tail end of a Midwest winter. If that ain't culture shock, I don't know what is. :D

GreenFire

I'm glad for a little warm weather at last. It means that my car heater will actually kick in before I get to school. No more frigidness for me, thankyou! It was nice to be coatless.

It was about 60 degrees where I live today (more northern Minnesota) and I was in heaven. I really hope there's really nice weather during the con, so we can get some good outside pics.

Cheer up, fellow Minnesotans. It may be freezing, but remember how nice it was on Sunday? Maybe we'll get another nice one, despite what the forecasters say!

Anyway, the Mall of America is heated. =P

treasure_chan
03-08-2005, 11:20 PM
Actually, I heard on a TV show that the MoA doesn't have an actual heating system... It's actually heated by all the people who walk around in it. o_o Interesting, neh?

well, you minnesotans think happy safe travel thoughts for those of us coming from Wisconsin and other points south - it's supposed to snow. Stupid snow. *grumble*

And snow all weekend from what I can see. So much for going outside with our illegal weapons to take pictures. *shiver*

Mucai

Can't be any worse then what the flight computer was saying the outside airtemp was. -55C. and some of that was being blown into the cabin.

*sigh* Well, Greenfire, you just may get your wish...

I just listened to the weekend forecast. It's not looking so good. :-p Seems horrid winds are going to rip through here tomorrow, followed by snow...

What a terrible weekend for a convention! I mean really! Instead of moving the darned thing forward in the year, why not move it back!? I seriously wouldn't mind if it was held in April instead of March (which, by the way, is the most unpredictable month for Minnesota weather out of the whole fricken year...) if it meant decent weather...

Can you tell I absolutely hate the cold? Boy, what a good Minnesotan I make...

...Just perfect. T___T Not stayingat the hotel so it's really going to be a treat driving from S. Minneapolis to the Thunderbird in that. Funny how a large portion of the Minnesota population seems to forget how to drive correctly when it s nows. -.-"
Aw, well. It'll give me an excuse to stay at the con longer--you know, wait until traffic starts to move better. ^^
