I would like to make a HP robe/cosplay for the book release in July. I was wondering what pattern # would be best to use. ((simplicity, butterick, etc)) What have others used??

And another question, where would I be able to purchase the Gryffindor/Slytherin/Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff patches??

((Ive check other threads, and the patterns listed there werent available on the linked site.))

Thank you!

I don't know if the following link is in adult or children sizes, but it's definitely an HP rip off.

^_^ Very Very Helpful. It really doesn't offer very much sewing advice, but if you'd like to purchase things or want a reference, that's the way to go.

btw, I purchased a ravenclaw patch (Luna! ^_^) from the Patch Place on ebay (link is on the site) and it's wonderfully done. Mine looks lovely.

There are plenty of great patterns for the HP robes. I've gotten a lot of questions on what material to use, and I think it's important to find something heavy and of quality to really make the costume believable in the end. Wool would be perfect. ^_^

www.patchpalace.com

I've bought all of my patches there and I think I've cosplayed or made costumes of just about everyone. LOL

We at the HP Costuming Mailing List are helping to get a proper HP Costuming Website going so this is what was put up so far to answer your question:

http://www.costumebeginner.com/malkins/student/robes.htm#pattern

I used McCalls 3663 and what I did was reshaped the sleeves to be a LOT less wide (end of sleeves length is ~1.5 times the length of the armhole) and the sides. Also made the hood pointed since it's the PoA Version (Ps: SS/CoS Version has *NO* Hood, only collar!) tho' after doing my Hermione I also realized I should reduce the size of the hood opening (the one around your face) too.

THere are sites that you can get everything HP, including the candy. For the robe use a bath robe patteren and add a hood. The hood is simple enough, if you have to, buy a pattering with a hood and use that. Cotton twill is a good start for the robe. Wool is great if its going to be cold, but cotton breaths and its cheap.

In case you didn't do a proper research, not any hood but a pointed one.

Can't use the robe pattern as it is; majority needs modifications like making the sides less wide, sleeves smaller and hood smaller & pointed. This is for the PoA &GoF aka 3rd Harry Potter Movie versions.
