View Full Version : Who To Be? Two Characters, Stuck Betweeen.

Okay, I went shopping a bit ago for cosplay items, and fabric. I originally had in my mind to be Dark Chii or Freya frrom Chobits, but after stepping back and looking at the overall picture, the items, tools, and components I now have all seem rather Miho-like. ^^ Tohya Miho is from Megatokyo, and pictures are at the bottom. And now I'm unsure who to be. I would greatly apprecuate any sort of comments, suggestions, etc. Posters get cookies. -holds out plate of steamy gooey cookies- Yay. Oh, and it's for Comic-con SD, if that matters. ^^

Me: Blonde hair, blue eyes, (not Asian... -sob fest-) About 5' 4" or so. Rather short.

Dark Chii/Freya (Chobits):
First off: THERE ARE SO MANY! Just the thought of doing this caused me to almost laugh. I mean, It's sort of overplayed...
I have long blonde hair, so I could, despite the overplayedness, easily pull this one off. Although the outfit isn't one seen in the show, pretty much adding the ears would be recognizeable. However, there are tons of cosplayers for this character, and the outfit wouldn't fit the character as well. I mean, I am fixing it, but still, It would never work as well as Miho.
It would be easily recognizealble with the ears, so many more would recognize it, even though it wouldn't be as great. Because Freya only wears a few outfits from what I've seen (I only have seen pictures, I have never seen the show or read the manga, another problem, I only know I love the costume design.) it would be hard to make this one seem real and close to character, with no background knoledge.

Tohya Miho (Megatokyo):
I look nothing like Miho hairwise, and wigs are completely out of the question, just take my word on that. I am, however, closer to her in stature and appearance other than the hair. I can easily act like her and I know how to put ribbons in my hair almost perfect to hers.
The components I have are just so Miho-ish. I mean, I even have a pair of fingerless black ribbonned gloves. The main color scheme is purple and black, even more fitting.
The downside is Miho would not be easily recognized by people, unless they are MT fans, in which case seeing the ribbons would be a dead give away.
I guess for the hair I could dye it, and wear a hat that conceals the back of my head. The only hat I could imagine Miho in that she would wear would be a top hat.

Oh, the last three, please note are from the actual manga, and I disclaim them. They are owned by Fred Gallagher, megatokyo.com, etc. ^^

There are pros and cons to both, but in general the bottom line is thus:
Be recognizeable and overplayed or be accurate and unique.

If you need pictures of Dark Chii, let me know, or you could run a google images search. But I figure with the overplayedness you'd know.

I vote for Miho!!!!!! And how come wigs are out of the question?(just curious)

Yesh. Miho is most awesome. And I think even if people don't recognize me, I could look like a weird Loli. ^^

Wigs: Well, I already went way over my budget with this costume, and it isn't even done, and -guilty look- Let's just say last time I had a wig it ended up brutally trashed with no way of saving. And it was an expensive one to. So I have resoluted not to use wigs until I can carefully manage them... and my cats.

My votes for Miho! She looks like a real fun cosplay, I especially like the boots, and the ribbons in the hair. *Flashes a piece sign forward* Votes for Miho. What days are you goin to Comic-Con. I'm going on Saturday as Magi from .hack//sign hope to see you there. :japan:

Don't disregard a cosplay based simply on the fact that it is over done. No two costumes are the same, even if made by the very same person. Everyone has something creatively different to offer.

That said,
Miho with the wings is great, and if properly executed, people will line up to take your photo even if they have no idea who you are. I love the hair and the ribbons as well. I do feel that the wings are crucial, however.

So far it seems like Miho. ^^ I think it'd be better as well, especially since I understand the character.

Oh, I'm going sunday. It's the only day I can, because I'm at a crative writing workshop up until saturday, when I get back late at night. Even though sunday isn't perfect, I still have to go... IT'S COMIC-CON!

Well, I hate Megatokyo with a burning passion, so my vote would be biased. ^_^*

Now, really, you can go with this in two ways....

One, you can be the best damned Black Chii cosplayer EVER (unlike a lot of the Black Chiis I've seen before....) and pay real close attention to detail. This requires a ton of work, mind, and you may end up needing glasses before the whole ordeal is over with. (Hah... I'm half blind right now from making onmyouji robes. x_X;;; )

Or.... Two, do a Miho cosplay. ^_^ Personally, I think that people care less about wigs than you think, so you could get away with not wearing one, anyway. >_>;;; *cough*BadSeishirowig*coughcough*

So far it definately seems Miho. I'll probably be Chii later on, when I have more time to prepare, and have a bit more experience. Besides, it'll be fun to do something unique.

Thanks all. -gives cookies to all-

If anyone else has a suggestion still feel free to post, but as it is it definately seems Miho.

Thanks again for helping convince me. ^^
