View Full Version : Ivy Valentine *SC2* Costume Help

This is the reference pic to the ivy outfit I wish to make, now.. this is the problems I have for this.

1) I am 17 and don't have the money for expensive stuff
2) I can't sew to save myself.. though i have sewn a pillow once

Any ideas on what I could use to make this costume from?

I was thinking a dark purple swimsuit and cutting it to be like the main part.

Is that a good idea?

If any of you have done a ivy cosplay, i'd like advice.

I think that should work, but the edges of the swimsuit would probably get all raggedy where you cut them... Maybe you could ask someone you know (who might know how to sew) for advice on the swimsuit bit... But as my ultimate advice, try one of her other costumes if your bent on being Ivy. Well, good luck!!

That costume isn't really for beginners...

I would suggest trying something more simple in sewing and come back to that once you've improved.

A lot of Ivy's outfits really aren't for beginners....I would suggest the red dress and once you get better definetly go for the pirate one or the one that you really want.

I did this one, Ivy SC (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v400/donnaf/ivy1-b.jpg) , and believe me it was one of the hardest costumes I have done. I don't want to discourage but if you have no or little sewing skills, then this one might be hard for you. I had to basicallly make a pattern. I bought a one piece cheap bathing suit and cut it to make a pattern. The hardest thing was finding the material. I got lucky and found it on ebay. It was a deep purple that was kinda shiny and it had a one way stretch. You would want a material that you could move around in or move with you.

Here's my result. Ivy Otakon 04 (http://cosplayhaven.photosite.com/Otakon2004/?page=2) . The most uncomfortable part about the costume is of course I don't have much up top unlike Ivy. So I felt seriously inadequate. Then half my ass was hanging out too. The shoes was killer too. I call them hooker boots with the high heel. Overal I was proud that I made one of her costumes and it came out decent enough. The arm thing is made out of aluminum flashing and used big snaps to connect and was able to make it moveable.

I hope this helps and good luck!!!
