View Full Version : How would you "compare" Oni-Con?

I tried to find a "size" on their site, but found none... so I thought I'd ask here to those whom have gone... in terms of size and the like, how does it compare? Cons I've been to include....

Anime Expo

That being the order of size from largest to smallest... I live in Maryland so I would be flying out there (I wanna see Phantasmagoria, that's the incentive :3)

I belive last year it was around 3k
definatly not as huge as AX or Otakon, but still a decent size.

Last year was it's first time and had over 3000 people-
It was the best con i've been to thus far >XD!

I second that!! I've been to quite a few cons and Oni-con is still my fav. because it was SOOOOO much fun!! Last year they said they were expecting about 800 and got about 2400 I think. o.O;;

BTW, does anyone know if the refugees (from Hurricane Katrina) being moved to the Astro Dome in Houston is going to affect Oni-con and/or the guests going?? (I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna know before I make travel plans :lost:  :lost: )

it depends on if they make hotels allow people from that area in there, if so, then it might affect the availability of rooms, but other than that, i doubt it.

It's about a medium sized con

0-2,000 being small
2,000-6,500 being medium
6,500-15,000 being large
20,000 being....whoa....

It had about the same number of attendies on it's first year as Otakon and Anime Expo had their "fourth" year. The next Otakon/Anime Expo?....most likely not. But It's still a pretty large con for it's age.

Makes you feel sorry for the mother

*edit* I have a spreadsheet with most every con in the US's attendence rate, but it has a disclaimer from the creator not to "re-distribute" in any way...
"This data is collected for non-commercial purposes. The collection of this data is a time-consuming process. Please do not re-distribute this data in any form for any purpose without my express written permission."

but if you want....you can ask the creator for it...

From what I understand, Oni-con is very close in terms of size to Katsucon.

For being a first year con, it felt pretty big; depends on you view of big however..... It's still great though (for the parts i actually got to stay for....). It'll probably be even bigger this year! W00T!!

Ayane: I don't think there will be problems with the Kitrina people (i don't like the term refugees right now). Someone from Oni-con staff posted here that there shouldn't be, at least that's what the hotel is telling them. My guess is, that it'll be like AnimeFEST, if you heard what happened or witnessed it yourself. Things should be fine! ^_^

What I loved most about Oni-con IS the size (not too big, not too small) and there are a TON of events -- something for everyone, pretty much. It's a Texas convention so you know it and the people there will be laid back and fun. :)

I agree, Oni-con was the perfect size last year. But, even though it'll more than likely be bigger this year I still think it'll be as fun and laid back as last year =^_^=
