Hey again everyone,

Here's another event for San Francisco & Bay Area residents in April. From April 25-27 (the weekend AFTER the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade) WonderCon 2003 will take place at the Moscone center which is behind the Metreon in downtown SF. I've never been to Wondercon before, even though I almost did back in 2000 when it took place the SAME weekend as Fanime at the Westin. But I didn't go since it's mainly comic books and sci-fi. This year I'll prolly check it out because since it's going to be held in the Moscone Center (1st time) it's going to be big. (MacWorld was recently held there and they had 90,000 attendees!) And since it's being run by the same people who did San Diego Comic Con, it might be like a mini-version of SDCC so I'll be going for 2 days (Sat. & Sun. only because I work (next door!) on Friday)

Not sure if I'm going to cosplay, since like Comic Con, anime isn't too represented or respected at comic/sci-fi cons, but still.. there might be cosplayers going. I'll be going to take pictures of any, or else I might look for possible booth babes like they had at SDCC and (from what I've been told) previous WonderCons. :skidude2: See you there!

I didn't know it was at the Moscone center. Might have to check it out since it's so close.

01-28-2003, 07:22 PM
o.O sounds familiar. Did it used to be in Oakland?

01-28-2003, 08:06 PM
Yup, that's the one. Anyone ever been? Do you know if people get dressed up? I wouldn't mind dragging out the non-anime costumes for that one if people do.

01-28-2003, 09:26 PM
I didn't go last year but I went the three years before that. I've seen scifi and anime cosplayed there. Tho' the anime costumes see are pretty mainstream titles but there's plenty of video game representation.

There's a little of everything so go for it =D

02-09-2003, 09:30 PM
If I can find ways to get there, I will. ^^

02-09-2003, 10:26 PM
I went to WonderCon the last 3 years and believe me, it's really not all that. The times I went, there weren't many anime cosplay there; it's mostly comic book characters. Well, now w/ WonderCon under the ComiCon name, they may try to make it into the NorCal version of SDCC...so it may be worth it. However, if you're an anime fan, you're better off going to Fanime or AX...WC just doesn't cut it much.

You make a good point, Arty. I haven't been to Wondercon before, but since I like comics & sci-fi it'll be interesting to go for 1-2 days, since it is being held in SF and near my work, I might as well check it out. Since it's a few weeks before A-cen, it'll give me a chance to look at something non-anime related before the big duo of A-cen & A-kon hit me like a brick..

02-10-2003, 03:01 AM
LOL, Al. I guess in better terms...it'll be a nice change of pace to get away from an anime con for a weekend and go to something different you've never been to. :D

I just found myself wandering around the WC dealers room and wasting my time. My friend actually persuaded me to go since he hasn't been to a con in awhile and I was flat out bored there and wasted my time last year. But yeah...I can't say if WC will be better this year since it's under the ComiCon name, but if it's near your work and you need an excuse to fill the void between cons, then go for it, dude!!

Me?? I'm holding off until AX...^.^

02-11-2003, 11:20 PM
Poo......I hate all my cons being so close together (Fanime and AX) *grrrr* I was hoping for a good one.

OK, I sent in my pre-reg. for WonderCon today, so it looks like I'll be there for all 3 days. However, I have to work on Friday from 9:30-6pm. :( But since WCon is being held next door at the Moscone Center, I will go take a look-see for one hour during my lunch, enough time to get my badge, info, and meibi take a look around to scope out the layout and see if I can take a FEW pictures of anyone I see in costume or meibi some models or booth-babes. :D ahem..

Saturday will be the BIG day, and I'll probably wear Shinji all-day on Saturday, so if anyone else is going, keep an eye out for me wearing that, and if you plan to cosplay, perhaps we'll have a get-together sometime during that day for those who attend. Sounds good? I can't wait for WonderCon to arrive, since it'll be fresh off the heels of the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, and this is actually a con (not anime, persay) which is going to be pretty big and in the heart of San Francisco! :skidude2: see you soon!

03-12-2003, 02:34 PM
I thinking of goingt, but i'm not so sure..I want to volunteer for it though..even if it is just for 3 days. :D

03-12-2003, 05:41 PM
My brothers really want to go this year especially since it's at Moscone... so close. I usually head down on Saturday but apparently I'm not allowed to debut costumes before Fanime this year o.O;

03-12-2003, 06:44 PM
I'm definately going since it's close to home and that it's being run be comic con. Probably going to volunteer so that I can get in free. I will be cosplaying not sure what costume though.

*refreshes this thread since the con is this weekend* ^^

I just had a looksee at the programming sked and so far, only Sunday interests me on account of the costuming and makeup panels. I may resurrect my first and only non-anime costume from 5 years ago for this, provided I remake my perm-borrowed harem pants and can find all the other parts! :D

04-23-2003, 01:17 AM
Geh.. change of plans and I can only make it Friday. Maybe sometime Saturday if I'm lucky. >.> Man there is nothing of interest going on on Friday. =P

04-23-2003, 01:27 AM
Will be there friday and saturday and in costume. See you guys there.

04-23-2003, 05:12 AM
(*sigh*) I'd love to go, but other things have come up, mainly clearing out my truck, since it's become rather dirty and yucky, and I'd like to have it clean before I load it up for going up and down the state prior to, during, and after ACen.

And, the second reason... I'm technically broke until NEXT Thursday (payday... the major card bills came, and paid a significant amount off on each.)... :P

Oh, well, it's only about 8 days to go... Enjoy the weekend... I haven't been to WonderCon since about 3 or so years ago.. I usually did one days... My comic collecting days are essentially long gone... I've got all the Comico Robotech TV adaptation comics to show for it, among other titles... Looks like I'll be holding on to all those for another decade or two.

(Hmmm... just had a thought... if I could, and I was willing, I'd see about selling off some of my comics, though I probably wouldn't even get close to cover price for most of them.. oh, well, just a thought. Maybe I'll eBay them if I'm desperate. ^_^:)

04-23-2003, 12:37 PM
I'm thinking about it, but i'[m not sure, even just to show up saturday to hang around and buy my ticket at the door.

I'mma thinking of showing up around saturday afternoon... that is if I'm still alive from working at some habitat restoration site.. ( damn volunteer work)..@_@;;

04-23-2003, 07:30 PM
You can buy your tickets at the metreon's store Things from another World for 3 dollars off. Plus you don't have to wait in line to buy a ticket at the con.

04-23-2003, 08:16 PM
Cheryl" if I show up saturday morning,. would I be able to still buy the tickets?

04-25-2003, 03:33 AM
videogirlc: Ok, I'm just replying to your post from the Cherry Blossom thread... didn't wanna go too off-topic there. :D

Yah, I'm actually gonna wear Zack on Sunday. <roll eyes> Apparently me and some friends are gonna do the flashy, skimpy costumes on Sunday. <roll eyes some more>

I'll be walking around Saturday so I'll look for you. Not sure if I'm cosplaying Saturday though. Will anyone recognize me? :D

Are you gonna be there Sunday?

04-25-2003, 05:53 AM
RyuHayabusaDOA2 I have no idea if you can still buy them at the metreon store once the convention is going. You can still buy them at the door. ZiggyB I will be there friday and saturday. Still debating on sunday though. Sunday is a maybe.

I bought my ticket at Cards n Comics ^_^ (my usual comicbook dealer) 12 bucks for a one day pass ^_^. although at the door i belive it'll be 15 a pop. I'll show up Saturday most likely.

04-25-2003, 12:39 PM
I can't go. I need to save $ for next weeks trip to LA so yeah, but you guys better take lots of pics! ^_^

04-25-2003, 05:08 PM
As far as cosplay, I might wear something Audrey Hepburn like. ^_^; *lol*

I'll be in the general area on Saturday. My swing class is taking a field trip to this place called The Doghouse.

And I just realized I'll be three blocks away from the actual center.

Hm...if anyone cares for late night dancing afterwards, it's $8 to get in.

Or if anyone wants to get some late nite coffee talk just AIM me. I don't think I can pay entrance fee for the actual Wonder Con, but I'll definately be in the area.

04-27-2003, 05:42 PM
Aw man.. my schedule kept changing so I was only there from like 10-2 on Saturday. I wanted to take pics but I only ended up with 4... 3 of them were Star Wars and the other was mixed superhero group. Where were all you cosplayers hiding out at? T_T

04-27-2003, 08:50 PM
Ugh! I missed you Umi. :( I got there about 3:30 on Saturday. It seems I missed VideogirlC too. :(

I was there most of the day today (Sunday) and got a lot of pictures if cosplayers actually. I'll post pictures soon.

04-27-2003, 09:46 PM
Hm...technically I was there. Showed up at the Metreon at about 9:30ish and played some DDR. Okay, so the con was dead...only porn was being shown at the anime movie theatre. ^_^;

<-- was the chick DDRing in a dress and fedora ^_^;

04-28-2003, 03:22 AM
Haha, technically it wasn't porn, it was a indie documentary called "The Velvet Hammer" about burlesque. :)

04-28-2003, 03:32 PM
Well I made it to WonderCon and was lucky enough to meet up with some of you...got some decent photos too.

Turned out to be fun...not "great" but a bit of an improvement over past WonderCons. Several costumes...

I did get Fridays reviewposted with a few photos, many more to follow!

Hmm... Wondercon 03 was an interesting place and event to finally see that a semi anime convention is to be held within the famous Moscone center...

For that place is like usually and most definitely for the rich convention holders such as MacWorld and Seybold that of the computer world...

I was really happy to show a close friend of mine who never attened a year at Wondercon at all... she had a great time looking around and preparing for the next convention which is Fanime, for she definitely was surprised to see so much booths but slightly disappointed with the activites other than the exhibit hall... so we made the best of it and hoped to spend more time together during Fanime which should be fun... I'm definitely looking forward to it...

So to actually witness Wondercon being held there was a treat... and I was glad to be able to spend it with my friends there that were able to make it...

Riglord my other friend on the otherhand tried... but unfortunately just couldn't make it... he was with us in spirit though :P

For those who physically went and actually got to spend time with... you know who you are... take care and good night... *bows and disappears leaving no trace of his presence*

*blinks* if you meant the booth titled House of Anime? He attends a lot of Anime conventions... and his name is Harry ^^ House of Anime is also known to have this kick ass trailer house... with Slayers on one side and Hyper Police on the other...

*Whew!* My pics from Wondercon are finally up, and you can go to my section to view them. I admit that I didn't get too much variety from the 2.5 day con, but with what I saw and was able to take a picture of, you'll see on the site. Thanks to Matt, Dale, Chanel, Ashley, AJ, Wing, Oscar, Keith, Tracy, Jenn, and the 501st and the SF Star Wars club for posing for the pics I took, and hope you all like the pics!! :) I look forward to seeing everyone again in July for San Diego Comic Con, where once again anime, Star Wars, and comics collide. ;) Some I hope to see sooner at an anime convention, like A-cen, A-kon, Fanime, or AX.

Enjoy the pictures!! :skidude2:

The booth didn't have a name, so I really have no idea.
