There are a number of camera maufacturers that have released advisory notices regarding the CCDs/sensors failing in the past few weeks. In most cases the manufacturers are offering free out of warranty repairs, should your camera experience the sensor problem(s).

I hate to see cosplayers buy a new camera if they don't have to.

It's been on dpreview since a while now and the problem is quite rare. First time I saw results of these failures was here on Cosplay.com.

Yah, one of the cameras listed was one I was using for my cosplay photos. The Minolta DiMAGE A1. I've since sold it to a friend and have warned her about this.

Thankfully there's no sign of it happening with mine and it's almost a year old.

Thanks for reminding me of that old thread. I kind of wrote it off at an isolated incident.

I am however, refering to recent advisories from five different camera manufacturers and two news articles that have all occurred within the last week, several today, and more to come. The manufacturers should be applauded since in many instances this goodwill gesture will involve cameras long out of warranty.

If I can save a few cosplayers several hundred dollars, so they can go to another convention, buy a couple yards of fabric or get another year out of their camera, I've done my good deed for the day.

likewise. Kodak knows how to make good cameras (mines being one of them)
