View Full Version : [Camera Q] How to recover deleted pics?
10-16-2005, 06:45 AM
Ok so recently I went to a convention and when I uploaded my pictures, my camera had deleted every single pic I took at the con and some of the old pictures which I had deleted a while ago came back.
I was wondering if anyone knows if I can recover my lost convention pics? I think it was a corruptinog in my memory card but I'm not quite sure.
(sorry if this isn't allowed here btw ><)

Happens to everyone at some point. Here's a list of file recovery utilities you can try out, many of them have a shareaware/demo version.
I've personally used 2 or 3 of those programs, and they worked wonders. However, if you don't want to pay, you could try something like this : http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/ . I've never used it though, so I have no idea if it's any good.

I studied up on the topic of data recovery from flash media, and my results were mixed. I saw a lot of pay products & services that proclaim they can do the job, but the lack of a concerted open source or at least freeware community suggests that there really isn't a good software solution to the problem.
The methods I did find seemed more like snake oil peddlers then actual legitimate software engineering firms.
Freeundelete I promise will not work in this application. Flash media almost never uses the NTFS (even though it is technically possible for the truly stupid to format them that way if they want... just as it's possible to do the same to the iPod; doesn't mean it will still work).
