This looks like something which should be easy to find/make but i havent been having any luck so far >.< I'm trying to get an overcoat which looks like the one Fuuma wears in x tv (full shot (http://home.attbi.com/~detached/coat-1.jpg) upper part in detail (http://home.attbi.com/~detached/coat-2.jpg) ). Only difference being that I plan to add straps over the buttons (easy enough to do myself), and i want to use it both for cons i may be attending and for everyday use (fabric?). My problem is that i cant find a full size overcoat which overlaps like that for the life of me. Anyone know of any online places that sell something like it? Or would it be possible to modify a regular overcoat so that the left side overlaps like in the screens? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well . . . this is kind of a stupid suggestion but . . . you probably could use a regular overcoat, and just unfold the lapel (is this clear?) . . . the way it's shaped, that should work, since where it comes down from the collar it goes at an angle instead of straight across. If you iron it down, it should look fine. But then you still have a problem with the upper collar; you should buy a coat that's slightly too large for the extra fabric, and then cut and re-sew the ends of the collar (you just flip it up, instant Mandarin collar, except for adjusting the ends). Umm . . . let me know if this doesn't make any sense to you and I'll try to explain another way.

The only other thing I can think of, besides making it from scratch, is that I *think* I've seen military coats like that. Russian issue I believe. So I'd definitely recommend checking out military surplus sites. Tell me if you find a coat like that, I want one too. ^^

Tried looking for russian issue and axis german (friend's suggestion) coats, didnt turn up anything. However, i did a quick test of unfolding the lapel on an old suit i have, the result was very good :) would just need a minor alteration to keep the overlapping side slanted down to the middle. I'm going to try finding something like the coat subaru wears here (http://tsuriai.net/X/temp2/aug03.jpg), then see how much of the alterations i can do myself and then find a shop to finish up what i cant do (i'm thinking the collar, since i have no experience altering clothes). thanks for the help ^^

Yeah, if you don't have experience it's probably worth having a tailor do some of it for you. ^^
