View Full Version : Room Party

11-15-2005, 12:33 PM
I think I'm going to throw a room party at Ohayo Con this year (that's if its alright with my roommates). It will probably be on Friday night and I'll be staying in the Drury Inn.

Does anyone know of a store near the convention center that you can by soda, and snacks and such that is within a short walking distance?

north market is right across the street but they have more umm rare items. You can always walk to the giant eagle on neil its about a 15-20 minute walk theres also a few little places in the short north.

Thanks. Maybe I'll be luckily enough to find someone that has a car.

You really do not have to go very far from the convention. ^_^

The food court is perfect for getting snacks to bring back with you on your way to the Drury Inn, and I remember the pizza stand can make a WHOLE pizza, so that'll help you if you want to get one or more for guests. :) (It can get busy, so order in advance if you can.) And I know that a few food places stay open late (maybe midnight or 1am.)

Ahh sound fun, but I'm not too sure where in that place youre talking about... can you whip up a map with a marking on it?

11-17-2005, 10:36 AM
I'm not even sure what room my room will be yet at the Drury Inn. It will probably be the night of the Peelander Z concert since many of us have seen them already. I will try to get a map up soon.

Though someone suggested me to do a "Theme" party. What do you guys think about it?

to get to market, you go north on high street, cross the street and walk west on vine and you'll see the giant sign for north market, it's got a giant rooster on it. Actually, for those of you staying on the north side of the hyatt, you'll be able to see it out your rooms a little to the left of high street.

While north market has a wide variety of food, including snacks, even japanese snacks and sushi-to-go, some of it is more pricey then going to a store.

My recommendation is bring more than what you need, that way you wont have to deal with walking in the cold and you'll have everything pre-set and avoid scrambling around.

Thanks! I've found someone that has a car that is willing to get stuff for the party. What kind of good snacks and drinks should I get? I never threw a room party at a con before.

11-18-2005, 01:36 AM
Soda of any kind (Coke Pepsi Dr.Pepper Mountain Dew), any kind of chips and maybe candies as well.

Theme... uhhh well, um it's a convention party, so it doesn't really ask for a theme though.

I dunno, I never threw a convention party either.

It's official. The room party will be the night of the Peelander Z concert (Friday night, I believe). The party will start around 10 or 11 but my roomies and I will be going around with signs for most of the evening. It will be in the Drury Inn, which is connected to the con center. All are welcomed. No smoking, since its a non-smoking room.

just remember to keep your noise in check. Downtown c-bus hotels are notorious for calling police to shut down late (past 11pm) room parties.

11-21-2005, 04:43 PM
Ah, gotcha! Good thing I'm not having booze at this party then.

11-21-2005, 11:34 PM

aww... well, I'll give it a try.

11-22-2005, 08:42 AM
I've heard that at most hotels if you have key and a id, they will give you booze for free at their bar. But it could only be certain hotels. I'm planning on trying it though, just to see if it will work.

11-22-2005, 12:11 PM
that's wrong then, unless they're running a special promotion or already include a food and beverage charge in your room, hotels rarely ever have free service like that. A lot of hotel revenue is made off of F&B.

11-22-2005, 12:28 PM
Yeah I don't know ANY bar down there that gives away free alcohol. That would happen...uh..NEVER.

If it did...my head would explode and the world would come to and end. Cause the bar would go broke on me alone.

11-22-2005, 01:00 PM
I'm not sure. I've only heard that from a friend, never tried it my self.

11-23-2005, 05:13 PM
at sugoicon two years ago they had a happy hour for bengals fan at the embassy suites, this had two free drinks a person, but then again, at what they were charging for a room that weekend, I'm sure you were paying for it anyways. If anyone is looking for the cheapest place to drink within walking distance at ohayocon, look up either the flat iron cafe or the plugged nickel saloon, both of those are adjacent to the red roof inn.

11-23-2005, 08:30 PM
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. I'm sure if my party gets too out of hand or we get really bored at my own party I'll drag everyone over there in costumes xD;

11-29-2005, 10:39 AM
I hope you don't walk to the short north!!! I live 30 mins from thare!!! bad hood.

11-29-2005, 11:45 AM
I'll keep that in mind. I know alot of us wondered around Sugoi Con to look for food.

aside from the homeless people asking for chang the short north isnt that bad in my opinion. also the saturday night of the con is also gallery hoop where all the art galleries and bars have people swarming through them even if it is colder than hell outside.

11-29-2005, 02:42 PM
It looks like the party is a go for sure. I just need money from my roommies now before I can get the room.

Kewl what time?

Okay, here's what I dug up from the Drury Inn's website:

"You can't buy a drink around here. That's because our evening reception is FREE! Travelers can relax and enjoy... beverages and snacks are now available daily from 5:30pm - 7:00pm. (Service of alcohol subject to state and local law. Alcoholic beverages, if available, are limited to three per day.)"

Meaning, even if the Drury Inn is allowed by Ohio to give out alcohol, the latest you could get it would be at 7:00pm, and probably in a cup.

So, you might not want to depend on them... ^^

11-30-2005, 04:01 PM
Omg, awsome! Thanks alot Tohru! Thus far the party will be starting around 10 or 11 pm on Friday night.

12-02-2005, 02:10 PM
Hmm you will have to let me know what room it is. I may just stop by (is it in cosplay because fri night is the night I intend to cosplay till late).

12-02-2005, 05:26 PM
I'm planning on posting it on my door and walking around the con center with signs and possibly small flyers. It depends. I have to find out what room it is when I get there xD;;

IF you are going to have alcohol at your party, PLEASE be sure you card everyone before allowing them in your room. Otherwise, you run the risk of underage people consuming alcohol, which, while already bad because it's illegal, could lead to some seriously bad scenes. To cover your own tail, make sure everyone is of legal age, and make sure no one sneaks in or sneaks drinks out.

12-03-2005, 10:06 AM
No alcohol. I'm not getting into trouble for minors. But thanks for the advice.

12-09-2005, 02:22 PM
Yay! thank you! i already get kicked out of Yaoi Panels for being underaged, i would be mad if i couldn't go to a party either. especially since the people i'm rooming with are all over 21. i think.

12-09-2005, 05:09 PM
I will hopefully have my laptop with me and my yaoi collection. But thus far I don't own a laptop. I'm still searching for one I want between 400-600 dollars. =/

12-10-2005, 01:49 PM
www.dell.com my boyfriend got one for 300.00 :)

12-12-2005, 10:04 PM
last time i was at the hyatt they charged 50 dollars for a bottle of bacarrdi rum 0_0

12-13-2005, 08:19 AM
Dell also sucks and uses refinershed parts in all laptops. Let alone I've always had bad experiences with Dell computers.

i was going to say if you needed anything, the arena distict is across the street and the short north is but a few steps away. just don't wonder down any side streets, it gets a little shady. you can take the two bus north on high and there's a dairy mart or something like 5 mnutes away. there's also a giant eagle up a ways, and there's also plenty of dollar stores on the way up high. funny, i live downtown but i can barely remember street names ><; i'll look some things up for you if you want. i live 5 minutes from the con center and would be more than happy to help out.

12-15-2005, 10:58 PM
Thanks! I'll have to borrow my friend Chris to get food and such since he's the car guy.

12-30-2005, 11:25 PM
I finally ordered my blasted laptop tonight. It will be shipped before Wed. since I paid 100 bucks extra for one day shipping. I will be bringing most of my yaoi collection with me.
