Are you talking about the galleries featured on the main page?

Kyle would feature more guys there if more guys would pay for private photoshoots =D

Haa...plenty of "guys" pay for private shoots, infact they sell out in like an hour. XD; The shoots just aren't up to be bought currently looks like. :P *sniff* v.v

The vast majority of the shoots were purchased shoots, and most of the purchases happened to be girls. As for the remainder (15-20?), there isn't a large enough cross-section to judge from so I can't really comment.

Mine ran about 50/50. Spans everything from couples to parents wanting shots of the kids.
Money's money. It's legal, it's moral, so I did it. :p

I'm shy asking, but how and where do you pay for private photoshoots? Much appreciated.

Scratch that, Al (Eurobeat King) already answered my question.. Sorry to waste your time.

I wanna know too :/ I always thought they just did it randomly for fun XP then someone told me you have to pay.
If anyone could give me details such as where, how, and how much you can expect to pay for private photoshoots, I'd appreciate it too! ^^

They used to go up for sale before cons Admin was attending in the cosplay.com store. I don't know how it works now.

And if Kyle isn't in attendance, all is not lost. There are usually other photographers who can and will give paid private photoshoots at cons.

True, I guess you just ask around. But then its getting somebody realitively trustworthy.

The shoots were originally free, and then when I started getting so many requests for them I began charging in order to limit the number of people asking for shoots as well as add some sort of value to them. Even at a $30-40 per shoot rate I was running into issues where some conventions were selling out in under an hour. Which was really flattering, but totally unfair to those who happened to miss the start time for the shoots going up in the store.

However, some conventions have expressed to me that they do not want this to become the norm at their conventions, and with the high profile of Cosplay.com I do wind up being an example to other photographers who may wish to seize upon an opportunity like this. There are opportunists out there who have seriously pissed off a few conventions with the paid shoot model. Please note that some photographers do have or may have existing arrangements with conventions, so it's good to just ask around. And please do not use this site for scheduling paid private shoots though, as we do have some rules in place to counter the number of drive-by photographers who come here once in a while to just drum up a client base.

Anyway, so as not to be confused with the opportunistic side of things, and in order to change my focus a bit, I decided to stop charging for shoots and now only do free shoots again, but with costumes I would like to feature on the front of the site. I have also changed the format so that if I have even as few as 7-10 good shots of a particular costume, it is now included in the official photos section as a private shoot. I usually schedule a few shoots by request as well. And if I'm not busy and you want some extra shots at a convention, I am always willing to do them, time permitting.

Personally I would rather use my photography to showcase costumes and cosplayers, as I am way too busy with everything from Cosplay.com to CosWorx to do general convention coverage anymore. This is also why I am about to seriously expand the photographer opportunities on the website, which I have alluded to many times through posts like the guest photographer program but am only now getting around to being able to set up in detail.

Right now I am uploading one shoot per day and when the convention season is in full swing that number will likely increase to 2-3 per day. I have around 60 in the queue already, and any gaps in the postings are usually on account of me being out of town, like this past weekend when I was attending a convention in Mexico (from which I have a few really awesome shoots to post very soon).

Exactly. Many photographers will do something called TFP, which means time for prints. They get a model, and you get copies of all the photographs for your use. That wolud probably be a gallery for your costumes, but for aspiring professional models or artists, they have something to put in their work portfolio.

As for finding somebody, that shouldn't be too big of an issue. One thing to be careful about would be going to somebody's room or suite for photos unless you know them well. Or, if you were presented with some sort of consent form. Some people do have them for legitimate reasons, especially if they work for a major publication or organization and need 100% watertight legal security; in this case it would be a release form. I could imagine some sleeze having you sign something for whatever reason. Just make sure to really read anything you're asked to sign.

If you're looking for somebody, posting here would probably work. Most people would also have some samples of past work they could show you to help you figure out if you like what they could do for you. As far as finding somebody trustworthy, you could probably just go by word-of-mouth. People get to know each other fairly well over the course of a few years' worth of conventions and usually end up knowing at least a few people who are trustworthy. In fact, just browse the user galleries here on cosplay.com. A lot of people will have "photo by" or "photo from" in the image description. That should get you a start on who to ask.

If you're just looking for a photographer to shoot cosplay photos of you (which used to be damn hard to come by), then you can try some of the popular model portfolio websites on the net and hit up a few people in your area for TFP.

As already mentioned, you might want to have an escort for safety purposes, or shot in a "populated" area.

Okayy then :D
My friends and I (totaling a group of 4 or less) are interested in looking for a photographer to do a photo shoot of our Naruto cosplay @ AX06. We wouldn't need a whole buttload of shots (though that'd always be nice) but just around 5~7 good ones would be lovely. Our collective budget is around $40 for the shoot so we're hoping to find a photographer willing to shoot at that price (or hopefully even lower, as we're not exactly rich. T__T) If anyone or anyone you know might be interested please drop me a PM or email or something? Much appreciated~ ^^

This is Admin's official statement to his photoshoots, and with that said I believe the questions have been answered. If you're fortunate to find him or myself at a convention, we'll be happy to take free pictures of your costume(s) and post them in our cosplay.com galleries. :)

Any further questions, please PM Admin.

As a side note, I have just started offering paid private photoshoots.

The first one will be at this years Sakura Con (http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=78086). My current schedule so far includes attending Anime Central and most of the California anime conventions.

And I'd like to think that I'm not one of the "drive-by photographers" photographers that Admin spoke of. ;-)
