Last year at DragonCon a group from the Dallas area came as Cobra soldiers from the 80's cartoon and comic book G.I. Joe. I loved this series as a kid and when I saw the group at DC 02 I new I had to make a Destro costume. I will be at DragonCon & A*Kon this year. Does anyone else have an interest in getting a group together for one or both of these events?

I might be interested in doing some sort of G.I. Joe costume soon.
Keep me updated with your ideas.

GReetings,

I've been thinking of doing the dreadnaght (sp?) Zartan or maybe Cobra Commander when I lose weight. I'll probibly do one of them for Halloween.

Joe

The group I was referring to at DragonCon can be found at www.cobracares.com . Feel free to check out their pics to see what they have done so far costume wise and to get ideas. I even think they have a tutorial on there somewhere on how to put together a Cobra soldier.

now is this new GI Joe, or old skool?

I am referring to the 80's version however they have recently brought those same characters back in a new comic book series. Any of the characters affiliated with these two series would be appropriate. The 1980's ARE NOT OLD SCHOOL DARN IT!!!

I don't look much like any of the Cobra guys, but I could probably fairly easily pull of Starlet (or is it Scarlet) of the Joes. Would that be a possibility?

Greetings,

I don't remember how to spell Scarlette's name. Personally, I've always fancied Cobra as the heroes because growing up I wanted the power Cobra Commander had.

I'd worship the lady who does this version of the Baroness:
http://www.starwars-rpg.net/swfa/jmm/joe/baroness.html

I had such a huge crush on her growing up. I think that our Miyu could do her justice. Miyu-san... are you interested?

FRom,
Joe

I'm out then. There are only like, two girls in Cobra and I don't even remotely resemble either. Plus I wouldn't want to step on the "Baroness's" toes. She's been doing that costume at D*C for years (prior to the group from last year even). Sorry to disappoint.

Hey I would love to see a Scarlett. Bad guys or good guys it's all good! Let me know if you decide to do it cause I have never seen a someone go as her. How cool is it that you get to carry around a crossbow?!

Tomax & Xamot would kick booty. Especially if you had a couple of crimson guards escorting them! Will you guys be at DragonCon or A*Kon L to the 3rd?

Ooh! I gotta break out the Zarana (one of the comic versions) costume now. Wore it at Halloween last year and Ohayocon in January and nobody knew who I was. I'd love to wear it to an event where people will actually recognize me....::hops around::

Wow...That is a great Zarana! I am pretty sure there will be a Zartan again this year at Dragon Con so that should be kewl. It would be nice to see some guys go as the DreadKnocks (sp?). I know they have some pretty easy costumes. Can't wait to meet you SundanceKat!

@_@ I love GI JOE.. and yes, don't call it old school. it makes me feel so old.

don't know who I would go as... Cover Girl was one of my favorites along with Scarlet, Snake-eyes and StormShadow. I have a ninja fetish.

Hmmm... I'm making a Ninja Red (don't ask) costume... I could use that for Jinx.

I went to A-kon this year... saw The Baroness and Destro.

This is something to kick me and my fiencee' into high-gear ASAP. We've been working on Scarlett for myself, and Snake-Eyes for him. :)

I actually had to lose about 25 pounds to fit into this costume so I can feel your pain. It was a good excuse to get in the gym and now I feel tons better too *Bonus*!!!

We need a Storm Shadow. I just wish I knew how to make a white ninja outfit. I'm new to cosplay and I have never been to a cosplay event. I just started replying to posts on cosplay.com this week. Tell me more about how to cost play!

I pick Storm Shadow because if I had to be a bad guy I always wanted to join up with Storm Shadow. There was a single latino male that was a bad guy so It's hard for me to pick because, well, I'm latino. Come to think of it there are not Latino good guys either that I recall. Hmmmm, interesting...

any who, holla at me cosplayn' peeps!

Hey, I've bumped into a few Cobras and seen the pix (great Destro, BTB) and am very interested in doing this. I was actually thinking of putting together a CG or (because I'm crazy) Serpentor. Let me know plans, situations, or whatever. I'd love to be a part of it.

I'm going to see if I can do Snake Eyes for Otakon next year. I'll be doing the World War 2 Transformers/GI Joe Dreamwave comicbook crossover variation.

The CG has been discussed and several of us are putting the mask together (the most difficult piece to make). We are anticipating having several ready around this time next year for Dragon Con 05...good luck on the Serpentor however I have yet to see someone get it right.

That's very cool. Any way I can jump on with getting plans or help with the CG mask. Also, would you ever consider doing the gold Destro?

Hmmm. I actually discussed this at Dragon Con this past weekend. To me the best version of Destro was the original chrome dome. The "gold" Destro came later when I was just getting out of the toy/cartoon so I do not have as much of an attatchment to that style. It was too much of a process to get this costume together the first time and I dont think I can do it again frankly. Even the thought of painting it gold sends shivers down my spine!

Yeah, I understand. I agree, the chrome dome is my favorite as well (after all, it is being used in the new comix). Then, of course, there is that mack-daddy Destro figure with the leopard print that came out a few years ago. . .

Hey, I'm sorry I didn't see this thread until now ;)

You should visit my site :) It has all things Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes and a few tips on how to make the costumes :)

Examples:

Toronto Trek 18 - Revenge of the Ninjas
Snake-Eyes Vs. Storm Shadow
http://www.neoengel.com/torontotrek18_sat_masquerade_ninjas

There's quite a few photos of the above mentioned GIJoe costumes with clips from the performance my friend and I did on stage at the masquerade.

Snake-Eyes Costume Gallery
http://www.neoengel.com/snakeeyes_costumes

... This is the main gallery showing the progression of the costume.

You may notice how practical and easy to assemble the gear is... that is on purpose because I like to blend a little more reality into my costuming by using actual military gear to augment the outfit.

Storm Shadow at Toronto Trek 17
http://www.neoengel.com/ttrek17_storm_shadow

Some photos and tips at the bottom on how I made the costume with its debut at the convention.

I've been doing this for about 5 years and it's fun to re-create some of the fond memories of the 80's. Whenever I strike up a conversation with someone at a con - them seeing the costume always brings a smile to their face as they know they're not the only one with an appreciation for the stuff.

I've been kinda busy to update my site, but I have LeatherNeck, Flint, Beach-Head, and a few other characters planned to work on in the future ;)

Next year I think I might try something too. A couple of my friends joined the GI Joes. Angie went as Scarlet and Chris told me who he was but I forgot.
Names came out of my mouth that haven't in years...Snake-Eyes was there and Shipwreck was there last year.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me where I can find a white gun holster and waist belt to go along with it. I am trying to dress up as the Storm Shadow from the new GI Joe movie for a convention in 3 weeks and can't seem to find anything like that anywhere! Please help!!

kodiak33

You might try a seller of old US Calvary uniforms/costumes. A simple google search should net you a slew of choices. Not saying this is the only wayto find your belt and holster but it might be the fastest. Good Luck!

BTW I can't believe this thread is five years old...man you did some real digging to find this!
