View Full Version : Dir en Grey @ Otakon 2003! Make it Happen!

Yes, I'm aware I must have major issues, but this idea was brought to my attention by a friend of mine! Otakon is taking ideas and suggestions for guests to come and I'm pretty sure a lot of us would love to see Dir en Grey go this year, or at least, know we made an effort for them to come. That's why I, having no life and being snowed in, have made a site to support the idea of having Dir en Grey come to Otakon 2003!
click here for the site (http://www.lostfables.net/deg)
Please visit and spread the word if possible! At least if you're up for the idea!

I used this analogy earlier for another Very Famous j-Rocker, but that would be like trying to get Madonna to sing at a Star Trek convention. I seriously doubt that Otakon has the money or the technical setup to host a major act like that.. and I can't help thinking that if I were them, I wouldn't really want to play to a con crowd. My 2 cents.

I would have to disagree with your statement. Dir en Grey is big, but I don't think I could compare them with "Madonna" because the Japanese artists that could really have that kind of status, IMO are Ayumi Hamasaki (you can't touch her star status) or Gackt, they are beyond huge.

Not to get everyone giddy but I've heard they are trying to get Dir En Grey's status as to whether they can make it or not. I heard they are also considering another j-rock group as well. Don't be surprised if they can make it or not.

I would bounce off walls with excitement. I would love love to see Dir En Grey play live.
Getting their status is like the first step though, gonna take alot of $$$ and effort to get them to come over for a con show.
I'm not very hopeful but I'll cross my fingers none the less.

i'm not against the idea it would be great to have dir en grey but i think that would bring a lot of unwanted attention to the convention
i also think they may decline due to a busy scheduale
i think it may be better to try & book a more indie band so there will be less annoying, obsessive fans & it will allow the band to become more popular in america

Yeah well I emailed Otakon asking about it so hopefully I'll get a reply with the odds and possibilities for sure.

Booyaka. *posts again* Haven't recieved a response for my email that I sent yet. I'll just assume that the staff is prolly worry about other things and isn't considering Dir En Grey then I suppose. Anyone else interested in Dir En Grey coming can try emailing them.
Other suggestions for guests?

I think Ladytron posted the same suggestion on one of the AnimeBoston.com forums..hehe
Well, even if we can't get the real Dir en Grey, I'm sure we can scrounge up enough Dir en Grey cosplayers to pretend...
I don't know...it seems like this would be too sudden and vastly over budget to pull off. They are beyond the need to market themselves really -- they don't need promotion, they -have- their dedicated fanbase. And can you imagine the crowds they'd unexpectedly would draw? It would disable not just the entire con, but I would guess most of the downtown area as well....and Baltimore is not the kind of place you wanna do that to. Besides, if they actually did come, I'd be too paralyzed to even cosplay....like Kaoru's gonna know I didn't do his outfit exact justice. O_o I'm not a screaming, rabid fangirl, but I would be entirely distracted and self-conscious the whole time...I don't know if I could even enjoy myself. I do know I'd cancel out of all my other Otakon groups and meetings to concentrate on them alone, and I don't think I want that exactly either. I do wish for them to come to the U.S. at some point, but seeing as how Americans don't seem to have the proper level of respect for even pretend indies bands, I really think DeG would be very wary of coming. I just think it would do them better justice to simply not be connected with an anime con.
Anyway, this topic is brought up elsewhere (I think it got moved to music chat?), so that's all I'll mention here.
