Hi everyone, this is my first post on these forums. I just recently got into the cartoon Naruto. Later this month, some friends and I will be going to an Anime/Comic Book store opening party in costumes.

I want to go as Uzumaki Naruto. I have been sewing for a year and have plenty experience but don't know how to draft patterns by looking at pictures, but I can modify existing patterns.

I have a pattern for basic pants, a pattern for the sandals, and I just got my leaf head protector off of eBay. I am a relatively fast sewer; I made a Gryffindor costume in two days.

Could you guys & gals please help me by finding patterns for Uzumaki Naruto's jacket? Anything would be helpful, e-mailed patterns, measurements, and or existing patterns that I could buy and modify. Please help me! Thanks in advance.

Oh, and by the way, I'm a perfectionist!

For those who have done Uzumaki Naruto, how did you make you jacket? Did you make your own pattern or buy one and modify it? What should I do?

Welcome to Cosplay.Com!! If you ever need any other help or just want to talk to someone, feel free to PM me. ^-^

Okay, first off, I'm gonna tell you this since someone probably will anyways. You can edit your posts by clicking that blue button on the bottom-right corner of your post if you want to change it, k? That way, you don't always have to make another post when you want to add something.

About the jacket. I haven't done it before, so I'm just here to comment, but if you have the money, you can always buy it on eBay or something...

If you want to make it... Um, I'm helping my friend be Naruto too. What we're planning to do is find/buy an orange jacket, and just sew on the white collar, blue & patch stuff.

This isn't very helpful, is it?

I'm doing Naruto for Metrocon. I just bought some of my fabric today and I found this great pattern at JoAnn's by Burda. It's a sports jacket kind of pattern. So if you're looking for patterns, sportswear is a good place to look. =3

Thanks Hyper Phantom,
What kind of fabric did you buy? Cotton? Polly? Twill? And, are you going to line your jacket? One more ?, what type of material are you going to use for the collar?
Thanks and sorry for rambling!

I made my Naruto jacket out of sweatshirt fleece. It was rather heavy but it looked good and I'm always cold so it worked out great for me!

I remember seeing that pattern. I was actually considering that one myself.
I got this denimish kind of a fabric. I might line it, I'm not sure yet. Ah, the collar. I have no idea. I'm going to ask other Naruto cosplayers what they did for that one.

(can I bump threads?) I have most of my Naruto done except the collar and zipper area. I bought fleece for the collar, I don't plan on washing it very often so it won't go bad. Can anyone that's done this give any pointers? For those that have done Naruto, could you please e-mail me pics of your finished collar/zipper area and or you in your costume? I haven't been lucky at finding finished costume pictures of Naruto and any pictures would be nice for reference. A little description on how you made the collar would be appreciated.

Also, what are the finished dimensions of the leg pouch (on the right leg)? I've got some imitation leather and elastic and such, just need a measurement or three.

If interested, I'll post some pictures when I get my costume done.

I haven't tried to draft a Naruto jacket pattern yet (though I probably will someday), but for collar help I figured I'd mention that you're definitely going to want to use interfacing and probably some stablizer to get it to stand up. Generally there a number of different types available at fabric stores. I tend to prefer the fusible (iron on) type myself.

Hope that helps at least a little.

*scoots close to you* I'll be at Metrocon as Hinata. Yay!

For the leg pouches...it's not so much a set measurement as much as it is estimating. Look at Naruto pictures then at your own leg. I mean...I'm small, so I wouldn't have a gigantic leg pouch. Also, ebay has quite a few of those and you can get an idea for a pattern from there. Don't forget the white buttpouch! <3

I have actually done the whole naruto jacket and pants. While it is a bit of a hassle, I think it really came out great. I will post my picture of the finished jacket tomorrow, my camera is currenlty not here. For the zipper, that was a hassle. Now with how the jacket is presented in the show, it is impossible to have it zipper like a normal jacket. I ended up turning the zipper over actually so it zips up from the inside. It may sound confusing now, but I will post pictures with the details tomorrow. I hope that will help anyone working on the costume for Naruto.

 Impossible to zip up like a normal jacket? have you tried a reversible zipper? It seems like it would work perfect for a Naruto Jacket.
