rockabilly, psychobilly, ska and/or techno....etc....along those lines.

What are your favorite bands of these music types ?
Let's talk about it! I know some of my folks out there will be up
for this!

My favorites are:

Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Circle Jerks, NOFX, The Clash, The Lunachicks, The Muffs(kinda punk), Black Flag, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Bad Religion, Agnostic Front, The Cure, The Smiths, Morrissey, Depeche Mode, U2, Gary Numan, Morrissey, Lou Reed & The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, New Order, The Reverend Horton Heat, THe Cramps, Tori Amos, Fields of the Nephilim, The Shroud, The Misfits (old), Clan of Xymox, Christian Death --the list goes on for miles *lol*

Rock n roll, baybe!

I'm not very original here, but..

BEST: The Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt, Madonna, The Beatles, and the... Spice Girls. ;p

I'm more of a metal & industrial fan myself. Some of my favorite bands include:

Stabbing Westward, Type O Negative, Neuroticfish, VNV Nation, TOOL, Arch Enemy, Blind Guardian, Theatre of Tragedy, Megadeth, Suicide Commando, Nine Inch Nails, Eternal Tears Of Sorrow, Dark Tranquillity, Soilwork, KMFDM, Fear Factory, Amorphis, Lostprophets, In Flames, Machine Head, Strapping Young Lad, Nevermore, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead, and Opeth.

Awesome Jil! I love NIN. I have since I was about 13 or 14. Stabbing Westward is pretty kickass too. I like Tool, KMFDM and STP also. What do you think of Ministry? I think they are pretty cool. I love "Jesus Built My Hotrod".

My good buddy is a huge "Strapping Young Lad" fan.

I like LOTS of bands, but the ones I like the most are:

Ramones, Clash, Bad Religion, MxPx, Misfits, Black Flag, Tootsie, L7, Bikini Kill, Thee Headcoats, Quikfix, and some more, but those are my favorites. No Doubt (old stuff -- Tragic Kingdom and older) is great too.

peaseblossom

StereoLab: YEAH! The Pixies rock! Have you ever listened to any of Frank Black's more recent stuu (ie, solo or with The Catholics)? It's extremely good. He had a song on the X Files TV soundtrack called "Man of Steel" that I just love.

Tenjou: Cool. I've listened to some Bikini Kill. They are pretty cool. Never really got into MxPx or No Doubt. I had Tragic Kingdom, but I was never really into it. I hate Gwen Stephani now ( well, I don't like to see her) because of how she butchered and practically took over "Message In A Bottle" when she and Sting sang it at this year's SuperBowl. Argh!

The Police! That's another band that I love. I have a bandana from one of their 80's concerts. (My mum went, of course.)

Flexei: You've got good taste! Bauhaus is so wonderful. Peter Murphy just has a way about him. I think I like their cover of Ziggy Stardust better than the original done by the man himself!

Pornography is my favorite Cure album. I have all but about four of their albums, but that one sticks out the most to me. A Strange Day is just about my favorite song in the whole world! I cried like a baby when I saw them play it in St. Louis on the last tour.

Siouxsie is great . I like her stuff with the Creatures too. That woman amazes me. She's talented and extremely beautiful!

You know Gary Numan is about to release a new album and go on tour this year, right? ^_^ I'm so excited!

Ever heard New Model Army?

Peaseblossom~ Yeah, I really do like Gwen, but not her music anymore. It sounds pretty techno and pop, and lots of kids at my school say they "love her". They have no clue if I ask if they have Beacon Street or anything else before Tragic Kingdom. -_-;; But the funniest thing by far is when I tell them that they used to be a ska band, and they ask what ska is. XD

I've only heard a little bit of Peter Murphy's solo stuff. I liked it though. I have one Love and Rockets album and I love it, but it doesn't touch Bauhaus. I absolutely adore "In the Flat Field".

Actually Pornography is my favorite too. Cold is my favorite off the album. I also really like Faith. All Cats Are Grey is so wonderfully morpheine like. I was so dissapointed by Wish and Wild Mood Swings that i'd lost "Faith" in them. I thought.. oh Robert Smith's married now, guess he's not depressed enough to do good music. Thankfully Bloodflowers was awsome. I think I have just about all the cure albums. I don't have Paris, Show, or Three Imaginary Boys. I also don't have any of the singles, but have found most of the B-sides on mp3 along with some of the Easy Cure demo stuff.

Cold is my second favorite (tied for second with 100 Years) from Pornography. ^_^ I like All Cats Are Grey a lot too. The Drowning Man is pretty much my favorite from that album. Wild Mood Swings had a couple of songs I like. "Want" to me was the shining star of that album. Wish didn't pack the same power, but I still enjoy listening to it. I definately like it a lot except for "Wendy Time". I was never crazy about that song. I have a few of the B-sides mp3s too. It is despirately hard to find music around where I live. (Arkansas).

Have you heard The Glove? It's Siouxsie and Robert Smith's album they put out when they were a "thing". Unfortunatly, the idea of it is much better than the actual album. :)

Actually, I haven't. I have a good Curehead friend who likes it a lot. I would like to check it out.

Do you mean the live album, or a different one? If a different one, I can't wait! I'd love to see him live. Hopefully he comes somewhere near here.. preferably Pittsburgh.

A new album, from what the website says. He updates pretty frequently. Have you heard the soundtrack he did for Linsner's Dawn: Lucifer's Halo? It was so incredible. The last song, "Seed of a Lie" is just --haunting -- for lack of a better word.

Have heard, but don't have any of their stuff. I have very much liked what i've heard though. Any album you specifically recommend?

Actually, I don't have any of their stuff either. Haven't been able to find it. I guess I'm just going to break down and d/l some-- after 3 or more years of looking! I couldn't even find any in London when I was there! I love what I've heard by them though. Great energy. Makes you want to pump your fist in the air and all that rot.

Morrissey is another one that I obsess over. I finally bought Viva Hate a few weeks ago. I had been repeatedly listening to Vauxhall and I , World of Morrissey and various Smiths compilations for several years. I'm still not tired of them, but I thought I'd add another to the stacks. *g*

My biggest problem with Wild Mood Swings was probably being vastly underwhelmed by Wish, then hearing "Burn" off the Crow soundtrack, and hoping the new album would be more stuff like that... and then getting Wild Mood Swings.
I've got a checklist of the b-sides that i've slowly been pecking away at as I download songs at work. There are some really good ones, but I wouldn't go out of your way to find the Easy Cure demos. They're very "rough" sounding.. but i guess that's to be expected.
Have you heard anything about Robert Smith's supposed solo stuff? I heard rumors that he signed a 3 album deal with Elektra (i think), but they were going to be solo albums since Bloodflowers was the last "Cure" album.. well.. other than the Greatest Hits (which i recommend the DVD of.. great to have good versions of those videos).

I totally get you on that. "Burn " was the song that got me into The Cure. The first album of theirs I bought was Disintegration, so I didn't have the dissappointment thing. *g* I never even heard Wild Mood Swings until years later. I guess I'm kinda glad of it!
I had assumed the Easy Cure stuff would be rather rough. However, I do like punk a lot, so I will probably not mind.
As for b-sides, I really like "Happy the Man", "Adonais" and "This Twilight Garden" a lot.
From what the Cure's website says, the band as a while is producing another album. There is talk of solo stuff, but not that the album in production is solo. From what I gathered, the new 'best of' album was kinda almost forced on them by the record company. Apparently the Dream Tour was quite refreshing to old Bob.

Do you know if he had any original songs on the soundtrack? "Seed of a Lie" is also on the album Sacrifice. It's a good album, I just like Pure and Exile more. They're all really damn good, but my favorite song MIGHT be "Absolution". I WANTED that to be the song my wife and I danced to for the first time at our wedding... but she doesn't like Gary Numan. So it was the second song we danced to. :)
Have you heard anything off of Hybrid? I think it's mainly just a remix album, and i've found myself very disappointed by remix albums in the past.

Well, the Dawn Soundtrack was released as "Sacrifice" also. It's the same album.I just couldn't think of the other name for it. *lol*

"Absolution" ranks high up there for me too. A guy put it on a tape of lovesongs(very goth ^_~) to me when I was in highschool and then I was hooked on Gary forever!
You're lucky you got to dance to it at all. We got lucky and got a horrible DJ. Yay! Our first dance was to Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" *rolls eyes* Though I like Eric Clapton and all -- it was just so trite. Our DJ called himself "The Poor Boy DJ" and his sign was red bandana material pasted to burlap. If I had known that was his name/look, I would've never hired him. Oddly, the same song was dedicated to usby The Rum Boogey Club's house band (Beale Street, baybe) and it was really cool. ^_^ <end semi-rant>

No, I haven't headr much off Hybrid. I really like the live version of Berserker, but am not sure what album its on.

eh.. never got into Morrissey or the Smiths.. I just really don't like Morrissey's voice or his singing style. Not saying it's bad... just saying it's not for me.

Totally understandable. Moz is not for everyone. Neither is GiGi Allin. *falls over*

She also did vocals on a Delerium album, Karma, for the song "Silence" which I believe was top 10 in canada. Fantastic song and fantastic album. Those are just two i know of specifically.. she may have done more.

True, I forgot about that. On her album "Rarities, B-Sides, and Other Stuff" she did a few "electronic" like you mentioned, plus her song "Possession" on there is the Rabbit in the Moon remix.

Oh snap....here's my zone! Hooray! ^^

However, I mostly listen to hardcore but the old school stuff's got it's roots in punk. Oh well....Here goes:

Punk -

GBH
The Subhumans
American Nightmare (Kinda Punk-Core-ish)
A Global Threat
Two Man Advantage
Fugazi (I'm sure they can fit in here somehow ;) )
Black Flag
---

Ahhhh, so many to name here, I'll try to shorten it though lol

Hardcore -

Youth Of Today
Gorilla Biscuits
Minor Threat
Ten Yard Fight
25 Ta Life
Warzone
No Redeeming Social Value
Ramallah (Brutal as all hell, very political)
Raised Fist
Kill Your Idols
Cipher (True rapcore, but they're SO good)
Blood For Blood
One King Down
In My Eyes
Bane
Champion
Death Threat
Burn
Over My Dead Body
Eyes of Hate
---

Hehe, not really my zone but some stuff stuck to me because my sister's a psychobilly addict.

Psychobilly

The Nekromantix (By far my fav. Psychobilly band)
The Meteors
Demented Are Go (Absolutely sick :D )
Tiger Army (I know, they're cheezy but I still love em', hehe)
---

Metalcore definitely takes the cake when it comes to intensity and emotion, I guess that's why I love it :D

Metalcore

Unearth (Stings of Conscience, such a sick song)
Shai Hulud
Poison The Well ^_^
From Autumn To Ashes
Converge (Most intense music EVER)
Cave In (Old Stuff)
Atreyu
Hopesfall ( Wow.... O_O! )
Indecision/Most Precious Blood
Underoath (The keyboard is horribly misused but they have a couple of AWESOME songs)
Shadows Fall (So talented on SO many different levels)
The Hope Conspiracy
---

Allright, Allright, I'll stop after here, I promise haha, there's just so many good bands to name...

Black/Death Metal

In Flames (So good!!)
Children of Bodom (Alexi Laiho isn't human on that guitar)
Arkangel
Soilwork
Skyfire
Norther

Can't help but think that i'm just downloading the wrong stuff.. like if all I could find to download was stuff off of Frontline's Initial Command, or Ministry's Every Day Is Halloween.

Sure, you should look for "Odio bajo al alma" by Hocico as that tends to be what got me started on them and I still consider the better part of their music. I think if you dislike that album then Hocico probably won't be a band you like. Hope this helps!! :D

My favorite band is Tool. And yes, I can actually say they're my favorite. (Music is about the only thing I can say I have a #1 favorite in - everything else I'm all "I can't decide!") I've seen them in concert twice, and even though Maynard is just a tad on the strange side ::remembers seeing him open with A Perfect Circle at an NIN show::, I adore his voice.

Yup, I like a lot of those bands you mentioned. You've got good taste!
I am forever the David Bowie fan. He's the one singer I can listen to with my mom!
Iggy Pop too. Love Search and Destroy.
Black Tape for a Blue Girl is wonderful. Are you on Sam's mailing list?
I don't know how I could have forgotten Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil! Gah! Total beauty. I love TMC's cover of "Song to the Siren"
Pulp(Everything counts--in large amounts!), Dead or Alive, Tears for Fears & Shadow Project( I haven't heard a lot of it, I am partial to Christian Death myself) are good too .

I've heard or heard of most of the bands you've listed. ^__^ That's really cool!

Anyway, my list of favorite bands is song long it gets tiresome to read or type. I know what you mean when you say " I could go on forever"! It's insane!

I am a very big fan of Christian Death featuring Rozz Williams. I also like his other works such as Shadow Project.

Getting CD's can be difficult for me. Its really wierd where I live. Some things they have enormous amounts of and others things they just don't.

Like, at my local media play I bought all 3 Oh! My Goddess toys, but then you won't see them for awile. Its wierd.

I have two Christian Death CD's right now. (I use to listen to most of this stuff in a club before it was closed down).

The Best of Christian Death featuring Rozz Williams which I got through Borders (it came o.k., but borders shipping and handling sux).

And the other I got at amazon.com by luck. It is Catastrophe Ballet.

I also have a London After Midnight CD which I enjoy. And eventually I am going to go pick up a Genetorturers CD.

On a more mainstream note I really enjoy the works of Tool as well.

I heard you mention The Shroud as well. I really like them. Of course, it is but another one of my CDs my friends stole.

I had a lot of other CDs but my friends stole most of them.

Needless to say they aren't my friends anymore. :P

London After Midnight is good. Which album do you have?
I have two and then a copy of a tape.
The CDs are Oddities and Psycho Magnet and the tape(which I have *somewhere*) is a copy of an original demo of Selected Scenes From the End of the World.
I also have an original demo of Kitty Booger,a side project of LAM's former drummer when he was still in the band, that he sent ot me to play on my radio show.
The SHroud is very good. A friend of mine gave me a Shroud demo, Drowning Dreams, from before they were signed. It has their address printed on the tape in place of a record company. I also have a tape of Shroud's "Long Ago and Far Away".

I have Selected Scenes from the End of the World. I saw another CD in my cabinet I forgot to mention. Medieval Babes. They are very good.

Anyways, I only buy CD's featuring Rozz Williams, but they are kinda hard to get, at least here. So I prize the ones I have.

I just find Rozz to be an incredible artist.

And I quote, "Well I can't remember God when I'm and I'm drunk all day".

No matter what Marilyn Manson THINKS he did, he never came close the glory that was Rozz.

ROzz was a very sad man. I like the line "...I can die a thousand times but I will always be here.." from "Spiritual Cramp". I wish he was still around. WOuld've been great to see them perform live. Eva O does Christian music now. I wonder if she ever would have if Rozz hadn't died.

well i,m certainly not going to make a list that long. As its not one of my faverite genres.

Out of Traditional Goth bands, only the Sisters of Mercy have gained my interest to be honest. Things like Ska and punk just dont interest me. I certainly cannot stand bands like Green Day, Blink 182 ect. But punk mixed in with genres like Grindcore or powermetal (i.e. The Almighty, 59 times the pain, Suicidal Tendancies) or industrial (i.e. Alien Sex Fiend) then its not too bad.

Darkwave, EBM and Futurepop are allright. Goth mixed with Doom Metal (i.e. My Dying Bride, early paradise lost and early The Gathering) is good. So are bands like Nightwish and Poison black. A few HIM songs are ok, but cant stand The Rasmus. And please dont call Maralyn Manson or Cradle of Filth goths, or i will personally see to it that you are shot at sunrise :p

I actually have the first Crow soundtrack. My faverite song from it is either the Cure one or the Pantera one. That thrill kill kult song dosent rearly impress me. Too weak. I,m into the more powerful industrial metal like early Rammstein and late Die Krupps.

well the thing is that Green Day and Blink 182 are NOT punk (it grosses me out that anyone thinks they are). ...try The Germs, or Brainbombs.
and Suicidal Tendencies are just good old hardcore punk.

Well, I don't feel like getting into a big long list of what I'm into because a) it would take forever; b) I'm way too tired right now and should go to bed; and c) I'm really not in the mood to be criticized if I happen to list a band someone doesn't like. But the title caught my eye: Punk and New wave. So I figured I'd put a plug in for the Epoxies, who probably not enough people know about. They're a new-wavey punk band, awesome live show (bubble machine, people!), and they have a freakin' keytar in their lineup! I saw them over the summer with the Phenomenauts and the Aquabats, and they impressed me enough to pick up their cd, which I adore. So yeah, new-wave punky goodness = EPOXIES.

I really should go to bed now -_-;

The US state of Florida was famous for its production of Death Metal bands in the 80,s. Both Morbid Angel and Deicide hail from Florida. So do Savatage (but their not death metal).

Florida also spawned Jack Off Jill and Marilyn Manson, if they fit in this discussion.

you kinda left this topic opened to alot of music genre's.
and not all ones that are like each other either (ex, punk and techno)
but yeah.
as of what you mean, all rock music in general (with the exception of some of those genre's), i like blood brothers, fear before the march of flames, horse the band, scary kids scaring kids, from first to last, circa survive, saosin, from autumn to ashes, hollywood undead, the casualties, the bled, atreyu, mindless self indulgence, as i lay dying, norma jean, throwdown and stuff along those lines.

other than probably fftl and atreyu, i dont really think anyone here will be too familiar with the other shit, but its worth a try.

hAwesome. I did not see this thread before - bauhaus rulz!
I used to have a radio show called "gothic, new wave eurotrash disaster" in college, and all I ever played was this stuff -- unfortunately it was a show at 1-4am on a crap college am band but hey, gotta start somewhere

Total DM fiend, I have flown across continents (and even missed finals) just to see them in Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, US, and other idiotic depeche mode stories I could go into.

The first time I ever dyed my hair- it was "Alan Wilder" colour! (my mom had a total fit)

Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Minor Threat
The Cure, The Smiths, Morrissey, Velvet Underground,

Tori Amos - I had one of the same music teachers as her, when I was young

Fields of the Nephilim totally rocks,
The Shroud, The Misfits, Xymox, Christian Death, COCTEAU TWINS
alien sex fiend,
and anything in PROPAGANDA magazine!

awesome...
and anything reznor - gotta have it, more and more.... (perfect drug)
you can tell I'm bored, right...
