Hi, me and a friend are staying in a room for one night. We'll be arriving Saturday afternoon and since we're both 18, we're not sure if we can check in because you have to be at least 21 or older to check into the hotel room.

I was wondering if anyone at least 21 can spare at least 5 minutes to help us check into the room? I can give you homemade rice balls or pocky or something! We just need someone ><

I'm not sure how well that's going to work. I didn't read anything about there being a minimum age for check-in. Usually the hotel doesn't question as long as they get their money. Even if you reserve with someone else's credit card, you can still pay them in cash.

Well when I went to the other hotels, they always asked for ID =T It's JUST in case you know? I have the confirmation number and everything and the room is reserved with my credit card.

Perhaps call ahead and ask.. Then again, they may say no just as a deterrent... Hmmm...

I agree, calling them and asking about their check-in procedure is the quickest way to get information. You could pose it as a hypothetical question if you don't want them to know you already have a room reserved. I've had to provide ID before, but it's usually just to confirm I'm the same person that's on the credit card I'm giving them ^_^

I really don't see any reason why you'd need to be 21, and if you would, they'd mention it. You probably have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the advice! I'll just try to call them and hypothetically ask if I'd have to be 21 or older to check in. :P

I remember last year at AMA the hotel asked me for the ID of someone over 21 staying in the room with me. (I was 18 at the time.) Luckily my friend who's 22 was staying with me. This has never happened at any other hotel so I'm kinda sketchy about what was going on then. XD

I really don't think they would have a problem with 18 year olds staying in a room, it might have just been that one particular person at the front desk in my situation.

My 20 year old friend made reservations for her hotel room without a problem, and everyone in her room is going to be 20 or under. They didn't say anything about having to have someone 21 or older with them.

If you find out if you do have to be 21 can you let me know.
(and if you do need someone 21 or older with you and can't find anyone else you can use me)

Ah, thank you so much! I just get a little wary because every year at Anime USA, they ask for ID and this is my first time staying at a hotel for AMA. Once I get more info, I'll be sure to PM you :3

It's a state law.
Happened to me last year.
Hotel patrons checking in in VA must be at least 21.

Well they asked ID for my friend EVERY single year plus me this one year, but I was with a 21 year old thankfully.

Maybe you looked at least 21 years old :O

definetly check with the hotel, for the past 4 years, Ive always had to have a 21 yr old with me to check in for AMA.I had that problem at AUSA as well....who knows. I always thought it was kinda messed up that you could reserve a room at 18 but not check in, though I understand why. One year i was stranded for about 3 hours waiting for a friend to arrive. Damn staff.
But now that Im 21 I wont have that problem anymore..woohoo.

First, make sure that you check hotel policies. You may be able to also call and ask what their policies are regarding this. Most hotels I have stayed in require an Adult (21+) to actually STAY in the room - to be responsible for all the blah blah going on in the room and incase anything serious were to happen. Perhaps a parent/older sibling/friend wouldnt mind coming up and staying the night one evening if this is so?

What?! You have to be 21 to check in?????? I didn't have problems checking in to any hotels in Virginia in the last 2 years (currently 19). WTF?!?! No problems last year for Katsucon, AMA, AUSA, or Nekocon! Not even for AZ or Otakon last year 0_0! Nor have I had anyone older that 21 in my room in the last 2 years >.>. Must've been my NCDL.

Me either. Looks like it's hit or miss with check-in!
