View Full Version : Formal Dance at ACen Petition
08-03-2002, 03:03 AM
In the light of AWA's Final Fantasy Ball, my friend Lauren thought it would be a wonderful idea to have one at Anime Central in 2003. However, she needs 100 signatures for this petition.
Would you like to have a formal dance at Anime Central? I like the idea, personally. For couples, it's a nice time for that. For singles, it's a great way of meeting people or just having fun with friends. Sure, the raves are okay. Nothing wrong with that. But ever wondered about a moreso mellow and rommantique type of dance?
If you would like to support the idea of having a formal dance at ACen, please follow this URL:
There is one catch, for those who sign please know for sure you're going to the con and you will also attend the ball. Okies? That's it for now! More info is on the petition site.

I guess it depends what you call a formal ball.
I personally thought the FF ball was a little retarded, since some people realize that there are other (*gasp* Maybe even better!) RPGs than Final Fantasy in this world. A /costume/ ball would be a lot more fun. You know, make people dance in their costumes. I've done it, it's uncomfortable, but fun. I even had someone come up to me and my friend to tell us how in character we were. LOL
If a formal ball means you have to lug a tux or a dress on top of your bulky costumes, I'm not sure who would go. If formal is a reference to a different kind of music/atmosphere, I tend to think it would be a good idea.
Now a costume ball would rock. ^____^

Nan Desu Kon (http://www.ndk.cc) has a masquerade ball after the costume contest. ^_^

sounds like a great idea for a ball even though I can't go to it, but I'll sign anyways

Hmm . . . I have really mixed feelings. I'm kinda intimidated by your average dance - dark, loud, and full of glow sticks. oO I've wandered in to the ACen dance, stared at it for a while, and then left. So maybe a formal ball would be better for lone fans. But it kind of gives me the prom weird-out vibe. I would, however, be interested in masquerade ball, if you know what I mean; whatever costume you want, but with a lean towards the formal, and something other than techno for the music . . .

hmm.......music from Escaflowne the classical kind.....and uhh anyother music you'd hear from a game or anime that seems fitting can do good, right?

I think the opposite of Ayaka, Im actually intimidated by formal dances...its all depressing when people are dancing slowly and you dont have anyone to do that with...and none of the music you can do anything solo too, its really agonizing for lonely/shy people.

yah, a masq. ball would kick ass ^_^;; I mean, that way, you could act in char and everything, wouldn't be so depressing, easier for the lone peeps [ as Ayaka says ^_^\/ ] and f you happen to have a friend/sibing/random person dragged along aginst there own will cosplaying with you, ou can dance with them, in chara that is ..or not, but either way..that would be good.... how do you like that idea, Nadeshiko? o_O; [ rosiel smat smart.. ^^!::glomps:: I love u man ;_;.. ]

Vash - Well, no, I was trying to say I find both kinds intimidating. I'm saying, if it was less formal and more people romping in costume (but not to deafening techno for once), maybe I wouldn't be flattened against the wall in fear. I don't understand why they never play j-pop or j-rock, I'm not talking the anime equivalent of slow-dance songs.
And if everyone who wanted to could be "in character", like Ukayarou said, I think I'd be more comfortable. I've gone to most of the cons I've been to alone; no one to hide behind. So I'd like to hide in my costume, if you know what I mean! And I can't think of any costumes I'd do that would be "formal" exactly. No one in ballgowns. Besides I can hardly afford one, what with the cosplay budget.

I still say there should be variety in dances. It's really hard to pick up people when you can't hear yourself think. LMAO A different beat, or a slow here in there would make ME happy, instead of loudloud techno-rave all the time.
I think that's my main point: variety. ^___^
And well, I want ANIME MUSIC not just random techno.
> So I'd like to hide in my costume, if you know what I mean!
Exactly! Costumes often make shy people bolder, because they can pretend they are someone else. ^____^ So it would encourage more people to dance.
Although I have to say you can dance alone at formals too, I've been known to waltz on my own. Who cares what people think!
So yes, either a "you HAVE to be in costume" dance or a "prizes for people in costume" dance would be great. Make people dance in their costumes... it's so fun to dance in character too! ^____^

I still miss the stupid rollerskating parties I used to go to. I remember dancing to "the Bartman", does that date me? You can't feel silly dancing on rollerskates, because everyone looks silly. I think it would be kind of the same in costume. And I wanna see everyone do the Hokey Pokey in costume! *evil grin* Or the Ultra Relax dance!

Im a fan of hardcore techno/trance/house, but its not that good when they have it ALL time time.
At anime expo they played some malice mizer and dir en grey, more jrock would be welcomed.
